Sinespace Creator Spotlight: Some of the Latest Fashions from the Sinespace Shop

I decided it was time to bring Vanity Fair out for a fashion show! Here she models some of the latest releases from the many talented content creators in Sinespace.

The Pacifica bikini in blue lycra is absolutely perfect for showing off your curves at your next outing to the beach! It is by BlakOpal Designs and is only 69 Gold. And this bikini also comes in eleven other colours!

This beautifully textured Chinese dress by ELL is only 99 Gold, and it comes in five other colours. Vanity is also wearing the Misty ballet slipper in black by BlakOpal Designs, for sale on the Sinespace Shop for 99 Gold.

This head-turning pale blue dress with its obi sash and gold crane pattern is called Crane Over Tsunami, and it is only 144 Gold from SUPER at Seriyu Industries on the Sinespace Shop. Isn’t it stunning?

Another item from SUPER at Seriyu Industries is this lovely off-the-shoulder sweater dress, which is tintable to any colour you wish! It is also 144 Gold in the Sinespace Shop.

For our final, more casual look, Vanity is modeling three items:

The Loose Tee also comes in nine other colours (or you can get the complete set of ten for 349 Gold), and the High Heel Mules come in five more colours (or you can buy the entire set of six for 595 Gold).

Vanity Fair is also wearing:

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: The Free Roth 2 Version 2 Male Mesh Head and Body

A blog reader alerted me to a new, free, full-body (i.e. head and body) male mesh avatar that was brought over from OpenSim, called Roth2 version 2. You can pick one up for free from the SL Marketplace.

This mesh avatar comes with seven skin appliers included in the HUD, or you can click on the Bakes on Mesh button and use any Bakes-on-Mesh or system skin. You can use system eyes with this avatar, but mesh eyes are included, and there are five eye colour options in the HUD. In addition, you can select the Bakes on Mesh option for the eyes, and use any BoM or system eye texture on the included mesh eyes.

and one of the 5 included eye appliers on the included mesh eyes

Please note that if you are not using Bakes on Mesh, there are no alphas included in the Roth 2 package, but you can use the alphas that come with other mesh heads and bodies (for example, there is a complete set of head, body, and eye alphas in all combinations included in the recent group gift of the Freya unisex Bento mesh head from Catwa, which you can use here).

(with the system eyes that came with Bitsy, one of SL’s starter avatars)

After tinkering a bit with the body sliders, here is what the Bakes on Mesh body looks like (wearing the separate system-layer underwear that came in the package):

If you are looking for some inexpensive male skins for this or any other Bakes-on-Mesh compatible avatar, Cat Pink SL has produced the following video, showing many L$1 and L$10 skins available on the SL Marketplace (the URLs are in the text description below the video):

After watching this video, I spent L$10 on the Brandon skin from Fuku.toku from the SL Marketplace, and I tried it out on this avatar, which resulted in a look I like much better than the default Bakes on Mesh skin that came with the Roth 2 package (I did have to play around with the Mouth sliders a little bit).

I love the bushy eyebrows on this skin!

Here’s what the Roth 2 avatar looks like with some hair and clothes (the free male starter outfit, including shoes and socks, comes from the freebie wall at the No Shot store in London City):

In summary, this is a fairly good mesh full-body package at a price that can’t be beat: free! However, there is one serious drawback: the included alpha sections on the HUD, which are really quite basic (they work with both the mesh skin appliers and Bakes on Mesh, however):

Of course, if you are using the Bakes on Mesh avatar, you can always use the alphas that come with the mesh clothing you buy, in addition to (or instead of) the alpha sections on the Roth 2 HUD. (In the case of the No Shot outfit in the picture above, I used both the HUD and the alphas that came with the clothing and shoes.)

In addition to the free body, you can also pick up for free from the SL Marketplace:

  • an Extras package, which contains separate avatar mesh parts so that the Roth2 version 2 can be used with classic or other mesh heads, etc. It also contains the default skins as used in the Mesh Avatar HUD, a number of useful alpha masks, extra underclothing and attachable (unrigged) elf ears
  • a Resources package, which contains Roth 2 skins, textures for skins, eyes, textures for eyes, textures for the HUD, basic underwear, textures for underwear, etc.

Thanks to paragonfanfare for the heads up!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Where to Find Free Women’s Hair in Second Life

Hair can be expensive! Today, inspired by the new hair wall at The Free Dove and by Cat Pink’s new video (appended to the end of this rather long blogpost), I decided to compile a list of all the places I like to go when I need to pick up some fabulous free tresses for my female alts! Some you might already know about, but some you might not.

The Free Dove

Palomma Casanova has completely revamped the free hair wall at the back of her venerable freebie store, The Free Dove (here’s the exact SLURL), so if you haven’t paid a visit in a while, why not pop in? It’s still the single best collection of freebie hair for men and women on the grid!

Firelight has generously donated different eight hair gifts, including the Leslie long hairstyle, which comes with a HUD with six colour options, plus a separate tinting HUD to adjust it to any shade you desire:

The Dolly hair, another gift from Firelight, comes in a sand brown colour:

The Marilyn hair, a gift from Alli&Ali Hair, comes in a light brown colour:

The blunt-cut Olivia medium-length hairstyle by Sintiklia is extremely versatile! It comes in a complete fatpack of colours, and a styling HUD with nine options:

The Rina hair-and-fedora combo by Lara AC is cute (it comes in just the brown shown, however, and you cannot change the colour of the hat, either):

D!va

One of my favourite places to go for free hair is D!va. Join the D!va store group for free and you can pick up this lovely Aria hairstyle from the panel right behind the front counter, which comes in a full fatpack of colours, plus a styling HUD:

And, if you walk around the narrow wall behind the front counter, on the back of it is yet another fabulous free gift from D!va: the Iris hairstyle, which again comes in a complete fatpack, with a styling HUD, and separately wearable parts for the long fall in the back, the front fall over the shoulders, and the braids! There are just so many ways you can wear this hair. The Iris package even includes the gown you see in the picture below!

The Stay at Home Club

Another wonderful place to pick up some free, high-quality hair is The Stay at Home Club website (check the Accessories section, and just click on the pictures to get the SLURLs of the stores). Here I show you three of the free hairstyles available for female avatars.

The curly Sugar hairstyle by Miss Canning comes with a HUD with 40 different colour choices:

Versaci, among a generous selection of other Stay at Home Club gifts, offers you a complete fatpack of this shorter, bobbed hairstyle called Beckie:

The long, wavy Rhea hair by Sintiklia comes in a full fatpack of colours, and includes a styling HUD to wear each side forward or back as you desire. The Rhea hairstyle package also includes two styles of bangs, which are separate attachments.

Note that, in addition to the Olivia hair at The Free Dove (mentioned earlier), and this Rhea hairstyle, there are a number of free hairstyles on the Free Gifts wall at the Sintiklia store, so be sure to take a good look around once you’re there!

NYNE

Visit NYNE, join their group for free, and you can pick up no less than thirty-nine free hairstyles from the shelves behind the front counter! Six newer hairstyles are in the bags on the lower shelf, and there are another 33 hairstyles from 2018 and 2019 in the gift boxes on the upper shelf. Seriously, no other store on the grid offers you so much free hair! (There’s also a Stay at Home Club hair gift nearby too, to make it an even 40 free hairstyles!)

Let’s look at a couple of the hairstyles, all of which come with a HUD with six or seven colour options, plus separately colourable streaks.

First up is the long, straight Anissa hair:

Next is Tivi, a fun, crimped hairstyle:

Finally, here is the Kim hairstyle:

Firelight

In addition to the free Firelight hairstyles you can find at both The Free Dove and the excellent freebie store at Ajuda SL Brasil, head on down to the Firelight main store, join the Firelight group for free, and pick up the current and all the past group gifts:

The Emma braided hair comes with a HUD with nine colour options:

Lamb

Lamb has five free hairstyles as group gifts (the Lamb group is free to join).

This is the Angel hair, which comes in a fatpack of colours:

Navy and Copper

If you join the Navy and Copper group for free, you can pick up three free hairstyles from their store (here’s the SLURL):

Here is one of those three gifts, the Green Tea ponytail, which comes in a complete fatpack of colours:

Olive

Olive Hair has a wall with fifteen lucky boards, which do not require a group join. The letters change frequently, and there is usually a crowd of avatars waiting for their initial to appear, so your chances of picking up a free hairstyle are pretty good:

This is the White Rabbit hair, which comes in a blonde fatpack, with optional bunny ears:

Finally, Cat Pink SL (bless her heart) has just published a brand new YouTube video, with no less than twenty different places she goes to for free women’s hair in Second Life! Some of them I have mentioned up top, but many I have not.

If you visit the video page on YouTube (be sure click on “SHOW MORE” in the description text located below the video), she even provides a very handy list of the SLURLs to all the stores she mentions!

So, as you can see, lacking in Linden dollars does not mean you have to go bald in Second Life! Happy freebie shopping!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Retro Clothing and a Free Bakes-on-Mesh Body from Little Black Dress

Little Black Dress (*LBD*), which tends to specialize in retro and vintage fashion, has always been one of those generous Second Life stores that give away some freebies, even back in the old, pre-mesh days. I decided to pay a return visit today to see what freebies were now available, and I was very pleasantly surprised by what I found.

In the blue store on the left (exact SLURL), you can pick up a lovely black-and-white gingham dress (which you will see below), plus a completely free Bakes-on-Mesh Ruth 2.0 mesh body for female avatars!

In the brown store on the right (exact SLURL), you will find:

  • a shelf with many group gifts (the Little Black Dress group is free to join), including another copy of the free Bakes-on-Mesh Ruth 2.0 body, plus some skins, dresses, and jewelry;
  • on the wall are three panels with three complete classic, system starter avatars (these are long-standing feebies that have been offered for years by *LBD*);
  • in a bag nearby is a very useful item: a set of free Bakes-on-Mesh/system alpha layers to wear with clothing (this is a Godsend of you are using the Ruth 2.0 body, as there is no included alpha HUD to alpha out your body underneath outfits);
  • there’s another bag on the floor with a free gift of Zebra-patterned shoes for Maitreya, Slink and Classic Meshbody feet (they don’t work with the Ruth 2.0 feet).

In the picture below, everything you see is a freebie from Little Black Dress, except the mesh head, hair, and shoes!

This avatar is wearing:

Mesh Head: The Bento Bakes-on-Mesh Ciara mesh head by Dream (more information here).

Mesh Body: The *LBD* Bakes-on-Mesh Ruth 2.0 mesh body (free gift from Little Black Dress); the separate Bento hands come with or without nails (long purple nails which cannot be changed); the separate feet come in three heights: flat, medium, and high, and appear to be Slink-compatible (although your mileage may vary).

Mesh Eyes: The *LBD* Mesh Eyes group gift (includes a HUD to change the colour).

Hair:  The Ade Hurrah hair gift from last year’s Hair Fair.

Skin: *LBD* Omega and System Skin group gift (comes with separate eyebrow and retro makeup tattoos).

Glasses: *LBD* Colour Change Glasses group gift (you can click on them to change the colour of the front, arms, and glass; they are also resizable and would work well for either male or female avatars).

Jewelry: *LBD* Onyx Jewelry group gift (necklace, earrings, and bracelet)

Strapless Dress: This dress is one of the group gifts, in a bag accidentally mislabeled “*LBD* Onyx Jewelry group gift”! It comes in a size and with an alpha to wear with the Ruth 2.0 body, as well as one for Maitreya Lara bodies.

Shoes: The free Sonnet pumps from Hilly Haalan (the feet appear to be Slink-compatible, although the included foot height shape for the Sonnet pumps makes the base of the feet turn white on this Ruth 2.0 mesh body, so I had to set it aside and then just adjust the shoes by hand to fit).

TOTAL COST FOR THIS AVATAR LOOK: FREE!

Here’s a look at another free dress from Little Black Dress, the black-and-white Gingham Retro Backless dress, which comes in a wide variety of sizes to fit most mesh bodies. (The skin used here is an Advent gift from last December from 7 Deadly S[k]ins, called Elvira in the maple skin tone.)

Happy freebie shopping!
