Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Gimme Gacha Gifts

One of Ryan’s eight rules for freebie hunting in Second Life is: visit the monthly fashion and gacha events. You never know what freebies you can pick up!

Today, my main SL avatar, Vanity Fair, just felt like exploring the grid in her lovely new blue lingerie, stockings with garters, and sapphire jewelry—because why the hell not? (Hey, usually Vanity’s in a full-blown ballgown. If you think about it, traipsing around Second Life in a ballgown is just as ridiculous as it is in your underwear!)

The November round of the Gacha Garden is now upon us. Many of the vendor booths have a free gift (you do need to join the Gimme Gacha group for free in order to pick up these gifts).

The Analog Dog booth has a very generous gift, a full fatpack of Mali hair. Analog Dog tends to specialize in long, wavy or curly hair, and this free hairstyle is no exception. Here it is in fully pulled-back mode:

There’s a styling section on the included colour HUDs (nine HUDs in total: blacks, dark blondes, dark browns, dark reds, light blondes, light browns, light reds, mix, and splash), which gives you a few hairstyle options, to make it even more versatile:

Wow, now Vanity really has that fresh-from-the-boudoir look! 😉 In addition to the Mali hair, she is wearing:

Here are a couple of other gifts at the November round of the Gacha Garden I wanted to show you, the Agata over-the-shoulder ponytail hair by Limerence and the Sophia dress by Sorumin:

This avatar is also wearing:

  • Mesh Head: Giselle Bento head by Altamura (no longer available for free; this was an Altamura gift from Christmas 2017 at the eBENTO event, and you had to join the Altamura group for L$50 to get it).
  • Mesh Body: Jenny Bento body by Altamura (this was a free gift from the 2017 Women Only Hunt, and on this version, you can remove the head and replace it with any other mesh head, as I did here. Note that the Jenny free mesh body is now available at the Freebie Megastore at London City (more information here), but you cannot remove the head on the newer free version.
  • Shoes: the free Sonnet pumps available at the Hilly Haalan freebie store
  • Animation Override: Chubby Girl AO by [ImpEle] (free from the SL Marketplace). This is a nice, simple, calm, free AO with no crazy movements.

TOTAL COST OF THE SECOND AVATAR LOOK: Only L$50! (the group join fee for Altamura)

Here’s your taxi to the Gacha Garden. Remember, there are new freebies put out every month, so come back often. Happy freebie shopping!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: The EarthStones Halloween Trick or Treat Mystery Hunt

Every year for Halloween, the EarthStones jewelry store (SLURL) hosts an annual Trick or Treat Mystery Hunt, where you can pick up some great deals on jewelry for both men and women. I must warn you that this is a challenging but rewarding hunt, with some beautifully-made jewelry as prizes. You are looking for Trick or Treat bags: orange bags contain prizes for the ladies, and purple ones contain both male and female items. Prizes are not transferable, so be careful!

There are 24 hunt prizes in all, hidden in various places anywhere on the EarthBound sim where the EarthStones store is located, both inside the store and outside in the surrounding landscape! (Please note that this is not a free hunt; only four of the hunt prizes are free, and the rest cost L$50, L$75, or L$99, which is still a significant savings over EarthStones’ regular prices.)

I am going to tell you the bag numbers for each of the items I am showing you, so that if you are only interested in that particular set, you can focus your hunt for just those items. I am not going to tell you where they are; I am just giving you the bag numbers to make it a little easier for you!. I rationalize this decision by thinking that this blogpost might drive more traffic—and profit—to the EarthStones store owner Abraxxa Anatine, who richly deserves it for her beautiful work.

I know that this takes a bit of the mystery out of a Mystery Hunt, but I absolutely hate spending Linden dollars on items without knowing what I am getting! I’m sure you do too, which is also why I am doing this. But I do make an exception for the annual Halloween hunt at EarthStones, because I know from previous years’ hunts that all the prizes are very high quality items. And all the other bags will still remain a mystery! A few of the items (ones not shown here) are Halloween-themed.

First up is the simplest—a pair of black diamond stud earrings and a matching black diamond solitaire necklace (two separate prizes, bags 20 and 21):

Next is the beautiful Lakshmi jewelry set in lapis (the earrings, necklace, and bracelets for both left and right arms, are all separate hunt prizes, bags 2, 8, and 14; there is a HUD to change the metals to bronze or silver):

Here are the Kanza earrings and necklace in red jasper (two separate hunt prizes, bags 9 and 16):

These are the Simply Put earrings and necklace in moldavite (two prizes, bags 10 and 22):

And finally, we have the gorgeous Glass Drop necklace and matching earrings in sapphire (again, two separate prizes, bags 4 and 11):

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: SL16B Shopping Event

As part of the 16th anniversary celebrations in Second Life, there is a five-sim shopping event with discounts. Every participating store has put out a free gift for visitors.

Here’s a pro tip: rather than brave the lag and the crowds just to pick up every gift, only to take it all home and have to unpack the whole lot, watch Naria Panthar’s one-hour YouTube video where she methodically unpacks and shows you the gifts on each of the five shopping sims. Trust me, it will probably take you a lot longer than one hour to do it yourself, so just watch this video, take notes on which stores you want to hit on which sims, and save yourself time and frustration! Thank you, Naria!

Here are a few of the gifts I especially liked. All links provide SLURLs which should take you directly to the item at the event.

First up is the Willow Spirit dress by Silvan Moon Designs, paired with the moonstone and pearl Ferris earrings and necklace from EarthStones:

This is the Youthquake 1960s-era minidress with a Peter Pan collar by Fashionably Dead. This retro dress comes in black, ivory, navy, pink, and red, both in a floral pattern as shown, or in plain colours.

Here is the Pride tank top, a free gift from Blueberry (which comes in dry, half wet, and full wet versions), with the fun and funky Candy Rainbow June pumps by Garbaggio (one of my favourite shoe designers):

Don’t forget that at the Blueberry booth at the SL16B shopping event you can also pick up L$250 worth of free in-store credits to spend at the Blueberry store! Also, Addams is giving away L$300 in in-store credit if you go to their mainstore and click on the sign near the entrance. Both Blueberry and Addams require you to join their groups (for free) in order to pick up these credits, and both stores also offer numerous free group gifts, so it’s really a no-brainer to join these two groups.

Happy shopping! The event runs until July 8th, so you still have plenty of time to scoop up the bargains.
