Last Friday’s In-World Product Meetups

Inara Pey has written up a very detailed summary of last Friday’s in-world product meetups. I was unable to attend these meetings so I’m glad that Inara posted this!

Atlas Hopping with Drax and Berry, Episode 4

Once again a merry band of avatars gathered at 114 Harvest at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time/Sansar Time to embark on another Atlas Hopping adventure hosted by Draxtor Despres and Strawberry Singh. The three experiences we visited were:

Here’s Drax’s live stream of the event:

(Note: Drax is wrong, it’s actually Episode 4.)

And here’s Strawberry’s live stream:

Sansar for MS-DOS!

In the 114 Harvest user group on Facebook, Second Life artist FreeWee Ling has posted a very funny picture: the secret version of Sansar for MS-DOS! (This is a tongue-in-cheek response to a recent post by an irate Mac user who demanded to know why there was as yet no Sansar client for the Mac. As I have already explained, asking Linden Lab to provide native Mac support for virtual reality gear that currently only exists in a Windows hardware configuration is absurd.)

Sansar for MS-DOS

FreeWee says:

For an extra thrill you can use an amber monitor instead of the green phosphor. Print your screens to a dot-matrix printer on fan-fold paper and mail them to your friends. Or if you’re really connected, send ASCII text by batch email over your 512 baud modem (assuming you’ve programmed your Procomm connection strings correctly) to your neighbor’s BBS and have it delivered overnight when the long distance phone rates are lower. Or talk about it on usenet forum rec.games.computer.sansar…. The future was now!

This is bringing back memories of my very first personal computer, a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model III with a whopping 16 kilobytes of RAM (that’s kilobytes, not megabytes), a 300-baud acoustic coupler modem, and a Radio Shack cassette player for data storage!

Drax’s Birthday at 114 Harvest

Drax's Birthday Cake 24 August 2017

We gathered in the basement at 114 Harvest to celebrate Draxtor Despres’ birthday! Ria made him a cake, starting from a model from TurboSquid and using the Blender and Substance Painter software programs to decorate it.

Here’s Ria holding up one of the Drax masks she made! The photo (actually a Sansar desktop screen capture using TechSmith’s Snagit software) turned out darker than what I see in my Oculus Rift VR headset, which is an interesting difference between the VR and desktop (non-VR) views.

Ris as Drax 2 24 August 2017

Happy birthday, Drax! Hopefully, the Slovenian hotel wifi will cooperate, and you will be able to join Strawberry Singh and me as we go Atlas Hopping again!

Update August 26th: Drax sent me a really nice photo of himself and Ria at his party, which was taken by Strawberry Singh.
