Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free Gifts to Celebrate the 12th Anniversary of the Firestorm Viewer!

Second Life is probably unique among metaverse platforms in that the most popular viewer software is not a product of the company that makes Second Life, Linden Lab! That would be the Firestorm viewer, created by the community itself by a non-profit company called the Phoenix Firestorm Project:

The Phoenix Firestorm Project Inc. is a non-profit, incorporated organization whose mandate is to improve the user experience in Second Life and other virtual worlds by providing an advanced open source viewer with greater features, options and interface flexibility than the standard offering by Linden Lab. The project has approximately 80 volunteers working for it and are managed through departments divided up as Development, Support, Quality Assurance and Gateway. We provide live support 24/7 in nine different languages inside of Second Life through our support groups and on the web via our issue tracker.

And to celebrate its 12 anniversary, Firestorm threw a big party yesterday, Saturday, September 3rd. And in a circle around the four-sim event stage are free gifts from Firestorm and other Second Life vendors for you! All gifts are free and you do not need to join a group to pick them up.

The present from Firelight Hair is a new unisex fatpack of hair called Glen/Gwyn, which comes in both male and female versions, rigged and unrigged, plus a HUD with 32 different textures:

Firelight is also generously giving out the same gift to SL users that it put out a year ago, for Firestorm’s 11th anniversary! This shorter unisex hairstyle is called David/Davina, and also comes in male and female versions, both rigged and unrigged, with a texture HUD as shown below:

Next up we have a casual outfit featuring three more free gifts:

The T-shirt is the present from Addams, and it comes in a wide variety of sizes to fit most female mesh bodies, and in two colours: white as shown above, and black. (Note that there is also a men’s T-shirt gift, which also comes in black and white!)

The gift from Firestorm is a fatpack of this unisex baseball cap featuring the distinctive Firestorm phoenix logo, with comes the the HUD shown below, where you can mix and match the colours of the cap and the logo as you please. There are two versions of the baseball cap, one for smaller heads and one for larger heads, and both can be resized simply by clicking on them, which pulls up a menu. It’s the perfect accessory for any fan of the Firestorm viewer as your avatar strolls the grid!

Finally, there’s a very nice gift from virtual shoemaker Versov, these wonderfully detailed sneakers, which comes in sizes to fit men and women! These special-edition Firestov sneakers come in sizes to fit feet for the following mesh bodies: Maitreya Lara, Signature Gianni and Geralt, Legacy (male and female), Belleza (male and female), and Slink (male and female). There’s also an unrigged pair in the folder, which you can adjust and resize to fit other brands of feet. They are a keeper!

There are also many gifts for you fans of breedables (which I am not). Here’s the blogpost on the official Firestorm blog listing all the free gifts. I’m not sure how long all these gifts will be available, but I seem to remember that the Firestorm 11th anniversary gifts were available to pick up for at least a month after the events held at the stage. As I said, the event stage is a circle covering four adjoining sims, with the same gifts available around the perimeter of the stage in each sim. According to the event listing:

SLURLs: LOAD BALANCING! If your first initial starts with…click a corresponding SLURL:

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Gifts from the 13th Anniversary of the Fifty Linden Fridays Shopping Event

Have you joined the RyanSchultz.com Discord server yet? More details here

As you know, I am cutting back on my Second Life coverage, but I still wanted to bring to your attention that the the Fifty Linden Fridays (FLF) group is celebrating its 13th anniversary with a special sim groaning with free gifts! All you have to do is join the Fifty Linden Fridays group for free to pick them up.

In fact, there are so many gifts of avatar clothing, accessories, and home decor that I limited myself to showing you just two stores’ gifts, which make up a complete fantasy outfit!

A view from the back to show the detail on the wings!

From paper+antler come two gifts: these beautiful, resizable and adjustable pink-and-blue-wings and matching Minerva dress (the separate panties are included), which come in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara, Meshbody Legacy and Legacy Perky, eBody Reborn, and INITHIUM Kupra mesh bodies. I have paired these with the two gifts from Luas, the Triss horned headdress and a matching lantern with a high-priority Bento hold pose that works with your default animation overrider. (The shoes shown are the Amy ballerina flat fatpack from KC Couture, available at their in-world store or via the SL Marketplace for only L$175—a real bargain! You can tint the main part of the shoe, the sole, and even the interior separately, choosing from any of 40 different colours and textures. I turn to it often when I need flats to go with an outfit.)

There are so many more gifts available! I have posted a notecard with my picks for the best gifts, with exact SLURLs to each gift, in my RyanSchultz.com Steals, Deals & Freebies group in Second Life (L$50 to join; more information here). Because the FLF event has a single spawn point in the middle of the two concentric circles of vendor tents, you will have to save the SLURLs to your inventory, then right click on them, and select “Show on Map”, then follow the red arrow to your prize! UPDATE Aug. 14th, 2022: It turns out you don’t have to save the SLURL to your inventory after all! Just click on the SLURL in my notecard, and on the window that pops up, click on the Map button, then follow the red arrow to collect your prize!

The Fifty Linden Fridays shopping event runs until September 2nd, 2022. It’s jam-packed now, but if you wait a week or so, you won’t have to fight the crowds. Here’s your taxi to the event. Enjoy!

As always, I will be posting many locations, tips and tricks to pick up even more fabulous freebies in my group instead of writing about them to my blog, so please subscribe and check the group often!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: the FREE Summer Festival Vibes Hunt at Alaskametro and the Free Dove!

I have a few RyanSchultz.com blogposts simmering on the back burner, but first, a short, snappy post about a great, free Second Life hunt for female avatars, offering a generous variety of clothing, makeup, and skin gifts.

The Summer Festival Vibes hunt is one of the monthly hunts held at the venerable and recently redesigned freebie store, the Free Dove. The hunt prizes are all from Alaskametro, and all you need to do is join the Free Dove group (for free), and hunt diligently for festival passes on purple lanyards which are hidden, five per location.

NEED A LITTLE HELP WITH YOUR HUNTING? Here are Ryan’s top six tips and tricks for a successful Second Life hunt. Read, mark, and digest! 😉

Here’s the hunt legend, so you know what you are getting:

alaskmetro<3 "Summer Festival Vibes" hunt

Below, one of my alts (wearing a Meshbody Legacy body), is wearing the Arwen feather earrings, the Annika lacy top, the Eve distressed Eve jean shorts in faded denim, all covered up by this wonderfully detailed Misty fringed coverup jacket! All clothing comes in Maitreya Lara and Meshbody Legacy sizes only. The metallic body tattoo (Bakes on Mesh) is another one of the Summer Festival Vibes hunt gifts.

And in this picture, my alt (wearing a Maitreya-Lara-compatible Kalhene mesh body) is modeling one of the Karma LeLutka Evo X skins (which comes in three skin tones, including the head, ear, and body skin!), the Annika lingerie top, the Eve jean shorts in black, and the sheer Misty coverup in a black floral tone.

Add some sandals or sneakers and you’re all set for your next virtual folk festival!

Other Summer Festival Vibes hunt prizes include Bakes on Mesh/system skins (three full-body skin tones), BoM/Omega lipsticks and eye shadows, and fingernail textures for Maitreya or Slink mesh hands. Here’s another one of my alts (wearing the Chelsea head by LOGO), wearing the Kismet II Bakes on Mesh skin, along with the Crystal eyeshadow and the Backstage lipstick, along with the HUDs for the latter two items to show you the colour options (the makeup comes in both standard BoM and LeLutka Evo X versions):

The hunt ends on June 30th, 2022, so don’t wait too long to snap up these fabulous freebies.

Second Life Steals, Deals and Freebies: Paying A Return Visit to the Freebie Megastore in London City

I am becoming more depressed and anxious about the Ukraine Russia war, and its potential to turn into World War III. I have been spending a lot of time these past three weeks doomscrolling the news and social media (mostly Reddit and Twitter), but I do try step away for a day or two when I become overwhelmed by it all.

So, in addition to making financial donations to various war-related charities, I was out protesting against this senseless war in front of the Freebie Megastore in the popular London City sim in Second Life, standing right next to an effigy of 💩-tin in a garbage can…you know, as one does in SL (hey, it’s your Second Life; do what you want!).

By the way, the minidress in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag is a freebie from Princess Stuff (details here; scroll down to the bottom), and the No War sign is a freebie from the WENICE sim (details in this blogpost).

Anyways, while I was there, I freecammed into the Freebie Megastore, and I was pleased to discover that they have considerably enlarged their selection of free mesh clothing and footwear:

You can still pick up the free versions of the male Robert and female Jenny mesh bodies from Altamura, as well as a decent selection of free men’s and women’s clothing specifically designed to fit Altamura bodies. The menswear section has been significantly expanded from what I remember the last time I visited, too! (There is also a nice selection of men’s and women’s St. Patrick’s Day outfits, but you’d better hurry down to the Freebie Megastore to pick those up!)

Here’s a look at the mesh women’s clothing section; while the older items come in standard sizing, the newest additions are designed to fit a wide variety of women’s mesh body brands:

There’s also a women’s footwear section tucked into a corner of the Freebie Megastore, which includes some shoes and boots to fit Maitreya, Belleza, and Slink mesh feet!

So, if you haven’t been down to the Freebie Megastore in London City for a while, it might be time to pay a visit and pick up some fabulous freebies! Here’s your taxi.
