Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free Gifts from the Black Friday Bazaar!

Running from Nov. 21st to Dec. 1st, 2021, the Black Friday Bazaar shopping event in an annual tradition. Just join the Evil Bunny Hunts group for free, and you can pick up a free gift from almost all of the vendor booths! Even better, there’s a small sign next to each gift, which shows you what it looks like, so you can decide whether or not you want to grab it, which I think is a thoughtful touch—it saves you from having to unpack everything!

The Black Friday Bazaar

WARNING: the gift from the LUSH booth costs L$10, which in my books is NOT a gift, and I think it’s a rather dirty trick to pull in an event where all the other gifts are free! It’s very easy to accidentally buy something which you had assumed was free. The LUSH booth is located in the rightmost row of vendor booths when you are standing at the entrance to the event, as my avatar Vanity Fair is in the picture above. (Click on GROUP at the entrance to join the Evil Bunny Hunts group.)

Today, Vanity Fair is modeling a few of the gifts which I particularly liked. First up is are two presents paired together: the red, oversize What The Elf? shirt is the gift from [M]ELANGE, and the decorated Christmas antler headband is the gift from Grumble:

Below are three gifts: the Hooke’s Law double hoop earrings from Loordes of London, the white tank top from The Bold Llama T-Shirt Company (in sizes to fit most mesh bodies), and a wonderful fatpack of rounded long mesh nails from Stunner Originals, which come in 13 different colours (which come in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara, Signature Alice, Belleza, Kupra, Slink, and Star mesh hands).

This cute Leela Pink Dream party dress, the gift from GBD, comes in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara; Meshbody Legacy; Belleza Freya, Isis, and Venus; Slink Physique and Hourglass; Signature Alice; Tonic Curvy, Fine, and Minimizer; eBody and eBody Curvy; Star Mesh; TEX; and Altamura mesh bodies.

The black-and-purple Seer dress by JR Wolf Creations comes in the following sizes: Maitreya Lara and Petite; Meshbody Legacy; Belleza Freya; Slink Hourglass; INITHIUM Kupra; Tonic Curvy and Fine; and Signature Alice.

Another purple gift dress is the Raven dress in berry from Starlight Apparel (Maitreya Lara; Belleza Freya, Isis, and Venus; Slink Hourglass and Physique; Tonic Curvy and Fine).

From Luxury Fashion (LF) comes this complete Iris outfit, which includes the shoes and necklace shown, plus a HUD to choose one of eight colours for the tied top, and one of six textures for the flared pants. This ensemble comes in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara; Belleza Freya and Venus; Slink Hourglass and Physique; and Tonic Curvy and Fine mesh bodies.

Happy freebie shopping!

UPDATED: Playing Squid Game in Second Life (And How to Pick Up FREE Squid Game Outfits!)

It was perhaps inevitable that the hit Korean TV series Squid Game would inspire somebody to recreate the deadly games in Second Life as a form of roleplay. Teleport into the Squid Game world, and click on the large black cube at the entrance to receive a set of instructions on a notecard, and a special HUD to wear. The notecard by the creator reads in part:

Welcome to the SL Squid Games!

We started work on this on the 6th October 2021 and already we have had so much interest! Thanks to everyone for coming and checking us out and for all the very kind donations we’ve received so far already!

This all came about when I watched the whole Squid Game series and it just looked like so much fun to play! It was the talk of the town! Seemed as though no one had done an SL version yet, and I love building and scripting, so I got started. Within a day or 2 we already had many visitors showing up…All of the games except the tug of war (marketplace bought) were coded by myself.

Here’s a look at two of the game worlds. As you can see, they look very similar to the television series!

Near the entrance there are, of course, vendors from various stores selling Squid Game-themed outfits for roleplay purposes (never miss an opportunity to earn some coin, people!):

Even better, whether or not you choose to run the gauntlet of deadly childhood games, you can pick up some FREE Squid Game player and guard outfits at the current round of the MIIX monthly shopping event! The MIIX event always features a themed hunt of some kind, and this time around, the theme is Squid Game. So what are you waiting for? Here’s your taxi! (Plus some tips and tricks to help you with your hunt, learned through trial, tribulation, and experience.)

Below is the hunt key; you are looking for Squid Game cards with the circle, square, and triangle symbols printed on them, which can be hidden anywhere in and around the vendor booths or elsewhere in the space. As you can see, there are hunt prizes for both men and women, plus dolls and other accessories (the green player tracksuits come in both clean and dirty versions):

This is what the clean version of the green player’s tracksuit looks like (prizes 2 and 10):

And here is what the red guard outfit looks like (prizes 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7; the rifle comes with the Bento pose shown, and the mask comes in three versions: circle, square and triangle).

Note that the MIIX hunt ends November 20th, 2021, so don’t delay!

Note also that there are also regularly scheduled tournaments in the Second Life version of Squid Game (please teleport to the sim to get more information, and to join the group). Have fun!

P.S. If you haven’t watched Squid Game on Netflix yet, apparently it quickly became Netflix’s most watched show after it premiered in September! Here’s the trailer:

I must confess that I started, but haven’t yet finished, the series; it’s a bit too gory for my personal tastes. But it’s very well done, and if you’re into that sort of thing, it might be just up your alley!

UPDATE Nov. 16th, 2021: I wanted to add a few pictures showing you the men’s hunt prizes from the MIIX event. This is what the clean version of the green player’s tracksuit looks like (prizes 1 and 11):

Prizes 13, 14, and 15 are components of In-Ho (The Front Man) character’s black outfit: black pants, a plain black T-shirt, and a black hoodie worn over top (all of which you are men’s wardrobe staples which you can easily repurpose to use outside of Squid Game roleplay!), plus The Front Man’s black mask. Please click on each image in the gallery below to view it in a larger size. (Note that there were no black shoes included as prizes in the MIIX hunt, but you probably already have black shoes in your inventory!)

Remember that this hunt ends November 20th, so you only have four days to pick up these items for your male avatar. Happy freebie hunting!

UPDATED! Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free Gifts from the Christmas Round of the Avatar Fair

EDITORIAL NOTE: Yes, I know, I know—I have been blogging non-stop about Second Life lately! Please bear with me; I will return to writing more about the broader metaverse soon, I swear!!! This is just a phase I’m going through… 😉

Now that Hallowe’en is over, Second Life begins to get ready for the Christmas season! The Avatar Fair shopping event has many free gifts for female avatars, many of which are complete outfit fatpacks, including shoes or boots! All you have to do is join the Avatar Fair group for free to pick up all these early Christmas presents.

Look for the Avatar Fair booth with the orange backdrop (here’s the exact SLURL, but because the Avatar Fair has a central spawn point in front of the Sugar Dolls store, you need to save the SLURL to your inventory, right click on it and select “Show on Map”, then follow the red arrow to find the right booth).

Click on the Avatar Fair sign to join the group, and pick up five free gifts! One of these is a winter coat, hat and boots fatpack called Rose, from Ewa Boutique, which comes with a HUD to select from 10 coat and hat colours, and 6 different colours for the boots!

Another Christmas present from Ewa Boutique is this Noelly coat and boots outfit, which also comes with a HUD to choose 18 different colours for the coat, and 4 for the boots! Between these two gifts, you’re all set for any winter worlds you visit!

Another one of the five presents you can get at this booth is the Mysterious Bento AO, which is a carry-over gift from the Halloween round of the Avatar Fair (I wrote about it here; scroll to the Oct. 9th, 2021 update at the end). This is the perfect animation override to use with dresses, skirts, and full-skirted coats like Rose and Noelly!

Now, head over to the huge Christmas tree located right in the middle of the Avatar Fair, where there are another eight free gifts under the tree!

Here my avatar is modeling a few of these gifts. This is the fishnet-accented Agness dress by Ewa Boutique, which comes in a complete fatpack of colours (ultra-high platform shoes are included, not shown here). This outfit comes in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara; Meshbody Legacy; Belleza Freya and Isis; and Slink Physique and Hourglass mesh bodies.

This is the Tzuyu top and skirt, two separate pieces you can mix and match with other items in your wardrobe (sizes: Maitreya Lara and Petite; Meshbody Legacy and Perky; Belleza Freya and Isis; Slink Hourglass and Petite; INTHIUM Kupra; and a standard fitted size).

From Sugar Dolls comes this cute Amanda minidress fatpack (Maitreya Lara; Belleza Freya, Isis, and Venus; Slink Physique and Hourglass sizes):

Unleash your inner punk rocker with the Alex ripped dress and sneakers outfit, another gift from Sugar Dolls. The HUD allows you to select one of six textures for both the dress and the platform sneakers. This outfit comes in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara; Belleza Freya, Isis, and Venus; and Slink Physique and Hourglass mesh bodies.

This Katia outfit by Ewa Boutique has four colours each for the top and the miniskirt (there’s also a bag and some platform shoes, not shown here). The outfit comes in the following sizes: Maitreya Lara; Meshbody Legacy; Belleza Freya, Isis, and Venus; and Slink Hourglass and Physique.

You’re all set for your next Christmas party with this eye-catching Donna dress in black, with an optional white or black fur trim along the hemline (it comes in Maitreya, Legacy and Slink Hourglass sizes):

The Clara crop top with tie and miniskirt with straps lets your avatar embrace a retro Avril Lavigne look for free! You get 8 texture options for the top and the skirt, plus a mini tote bag and some ultra-high platform shoes (not shown here). Sizes: Maitreya Lara, Meshbody Legacy, and Slink Hourglass.

Happy freebie shopping!

UPDATE Nov. 16th, 2021: I just checked, and the Avatar Fair has gone and swapped out many of the old gifts that were under the Christmas tree, and added many new ones! I’m not sure if they are going to be swapping gifts in and out during the event at regular intervals, so you might want to revisit the Avatar Fair event every so often!

So here another one of my small army of Second Life alts is modeling a selection of these new gifts (mostly from Ewa Boutique). This is the sexy black Naomi minidress and shoes (there’s also a black purse with a hold pose):

This daring Margareth bodysuit and skirt are labelled as a “fatpack”, but there’s no sign of the HUD in the folder! So you just have the black colour shown, which is still nice…

However, there is a HUD included to change the colour of both the sweater and skirt parts of this more modest Isa outfit:

The Anneliz party dress, featuring a transparent overskirt) comes in eight different colours (and the shoes are included):

This Giselle outfit comes in ten different colours, and includes both the collar and the awesome boots!

The Lyly fur-trimmed coat from Sugar Dolls is extremely similar to the Noelly coat I mentioned up top, only you can change the colours of the coat and the fur trim individually on this version for 56 different combinations in total!

Finally, we have the aptly-named Claus minidress and Santa hat! HO HO HO!!!

Happy freebie shopping!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free and L$1 Fall and Winter Womenswear from Monomania and the Fallen Leaves and Frost Hunt!

We’re expecting our first snowfall up here in Winnipeg today, so I decided to call upon Vanity Fair to model some seasonal freebies and dollarbies for you!

First up is a L$1 autumn/winter outfit fatpack from Monomania. Just teleport to the in-world store (exact SLURL) and pay the vendor panel shown below a single Linden dollar, and it’s yours!

There are four separate pieces—puffer jacket, top, pants, and shoes—with a HUD to change any of them to one of six different colours (black, white, grey, red, blue, or purple):

This puffer jacket outfit comes in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara; Belleza Freya, Isis, and Venus; Slink Hourglass and Physique; Meshbody Legacy; and Tonic Curvy and Fine mesh bodies. It’s a seasonal staple that should be in everybody’s wardrobe, and you can mix and match the individual pieces in this outfit with other items in your inventory, all for only one Linden dollar!

Now I am going to share with you some FREE hunt prizes from the Fabulously Free in SL group’s Fallen Leaves and Frost Hunt, on now until November 30th, 2021. You are looking for a brightly-coloured rainbow hidden somewhere around the participating stores.

From MoOH! comes this wonderful oversize scarf and earmuffs set, which comes with two HUDs to change the colour and texture of both in many different ways, to match whatever else you’re wearing! The scarf comes in five standard sizes. (Hunt hint: A mouse can fit in this chair.)

Below, Vanity Fair models two hunt gifts worn together: the Everlie autumn dress (the hunt prize from Roped Passions), paired with the brown leather Darcy boots (one of three free hunt prizes from Mosquito’s Way). The knit dress comes in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara; Belleza Freya, Isis, and Venus; Slink Hourglass and Physique; and Tonic Curvy and Fine mesh bodies, plus 3 standard sizes (S, M, and L). The boots fit Maitreya, Slink, and Belleza mesh feet. Check out the wonderful buckle and strap detail on those boots, emblematic of the high quality of all of Mosquito’s Way women’s footwear!

You’re all set for autumn in this outfit! There’s also a second hunt prize, a matching sweater for male avatars, at the Roped Passions store; the hunt hint for both is: Throw a coin, and make a wish. (The hunt hint for the Darcy boots is: Coffee for me!)

So, as you can see, you can pull together a fabulous, fashionable fall or winter look from head to toe, without breaking the bank! Happy freebie shopping and hunting!
