Second Life Steals, Deals and Freebies: Alien Gizmo’s

Alien Gizmo’s is another Second Life store that all freebie hunters need to know about. Next to the lucky chairs in the Alien Gizmo’s store are 14 group gift vendor panels:

Alien Gizmo's1 22 May 2018

You’ll need to join the Alien Gizmo’s group to get the group gifts; the group is free to join.

Here’s how to find the free gifts section:

  1. Teleport to the Alien Gizmo’s store using this SLURL
  2. Look for the Teleport sign and click on the sign that says “Alien Gizmo’s”
  3. Walk into the store using the main entrance. The group gift area is to your right

Here’s another freebie hunting tip: Join the Alien Gizmo’s group and watch for regular announcements that they are giving away a L$200 gift card, good for any outfit in their store! Then just come to the sim, click on the panel at this SLURL to pick up your gift card, and head off to do some serious shopping!

Here’s what you do, step by step:

  • Find the gift card in your inventory, right click it, and select Add from the pop-up menu. This will attach it to the bottom right-corner of your screen:

  • Find a vendor for an outfit in the Alien Gizmo’s store. When you have found an outfit you wish to buy using the gift card, simply click the vendor panel. You will get a blue pop-up window in the upper right-hand corner of your screen, just click Ignore to remove it. You will also see a small icon of the outfit you have chosen appearing on your on-screen gift card, as shown by the red arrow below:

  • Click the Buy Now button under the outfit icon on your gift card, and your gift will be delivered to you! You can then detach the gift card.

Fat Shaming in Second Life, and the June and Jonathan Piggu Mesh Avatars

All my life, from childhood on, I have struggled with my weight. At the moment I am at my heaviest, and it does bother me a great deal. Losing weight is so hard; keeping it off is even harder! I need to haul my raggedy ass back to Weight Watchers…

I want to make this very clear: everybody has the right to choose the avatar that they feel best represents them! In no way do I want to tell people what to do with their own avatar appearance. You do what you want!

I do have two avatars who are fat like me; one uses the Piggu June female mesh avatar, and the other is the Piggu Jonathan male mesh avatar. I love trotting them out to events where everybody else looks like a fashion model who hasn’t eaten in a month 😉

In Second Life, there is a mesh avatar body and clothing store that is unashamedly up-front with its negative opinions about fat people (I’m not going to post a SLURL, although you can probably figure out the store from the photograph):

Fat Shaming in Second Life.png

According to this blogpost by Wagner James Au of the blog New World Notes, this was the site of a recent protest by people who were offended by this sales approach. I wish I knew about it at the time; I would have joined the protest!

Piggu 2 21 May 2018.png

My avatar is wearing:

Mesh Head and Body, Glasses, T-shirt and Shoes: Piggu June mesh avatar (L$700 from the SL Marketplace)

Hair: Sakura hair from Argrace (free group gift)

Jeans: June’s denim jeans (L$100 from the SL Marketplace)

AO: (Almost) Still AO for Fat Girls by Voir (L$350 from the SL Marketplace)

TOTAL COST OF THIS AVATAR: L$1150

And here is my Jonathan avatar:

Piggu 4 21 May 2018.png

He is wearing:

Mesh Head and Body, Glasses and Hair: Piggu Jonathan mesh avatar (L$700 from the SL Marketplace)

Shirt, Pants, Sneakers and Watch: Jonathan’s Techwear outfit (L$200 from the SL Marketplace)

AO: Fat Boy mini AO by Voir (L$300)

TOTAL COST OF THIS AVATAR: L$1200

If you wish to support the creator of the Piggu avatar system, here is her Patreon page, and a link to her store on the SL Marketplace. She also has a Facebook page.

Second Life Steals, Deals and Freebies: We Love Role-Play Freebies

Today Vanity Fair paid a visit to the current round of We Love Role-Play, a regular shopping event focused on the myriad forms of historical and fantasy roleplay in Second Life.

Most booths have a free gift which you can pick up if you join the We Love Roleplay group (which can be rather difficult to search for under Search in your SL client, because it uses that stupid ❤ symbol instead of the word “love”, so just use this URI to find the group).

Vanity Fair is wearing two freebies from We Love Roleplay in these two photos, taken at the Romanum role-play sim (please click each picture to see it in a larger size):

The flowering wreath headdress is a gift from the F&M booth, and the Roman dress tunic is a gift from the Infinity booth. Both are free.

And the following complete outfit (top, skirt, and matching large gold leaf necklace) is a gift from the Les Encantades booth. Isn’t it gorgeous? Les Encantades makes stunningly beautiful historical and fantasy role-play costumes.

Unfortunately, I can’t give you direct SLURLs to the individual booths, but they are all arranged in a large circle so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding these glorious freebies!

UPDATED! Second Life Steals, Deals and Freebies: Get 789 High Quality Outfits, Jewelry, Shoes and Hair for Only L$101!

This is an update to my surprisingly popular blogpost about visiting four stores in Second Life and getting 218 items for only L$100.

So, I decided to grab a spare avatar and take it to the extreme, visiting the following six stores, each of which offer a large number of group gifts, and picking up every single one:

  • Legendaire (68 group gifts; group is free to join)
  • Scandalize (86 group gifts; group costs L$100 to join)

UPDATE 11:44 a.m.: A commenter on a cross-post of this blogpost to the Your Second Life group on Facebook told me about another store where you join the group for free, with oodles of freebies! The store is called !Soul, and here is the SLURL.

Soul Gifts 17 May 2018.png

Thank you for the tip, Susan Giroso! There are 88 group gifts here at this location!

That brings the new grand total to SEVEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-NINE items for only L$101!

Here’s a look at one of the outfits from !Soul, the Delicate Satin Mesh Dress in a floral pattern, with matching boots (there are seven different patterns available for this outfit).

Second Life Steals, Deals and Freebies: Hilly Haalan

I’ve been blogging a fair bit these past few days about where to get the best freebies in Second Life (which is pretty hilarious when you consider that I never intended to blog about SL on this blog at all!), and I realized I had forgotten to mention another really great place to get clothing and shoes for female avatars!

Hilly Haalan currently has a wonderful Mother’s Day freebie available if you join their group (which is free to join). It’s a pair of Sonnet suede pumps with a HUD allowing you to re-texture them in any of 20 different colours:

HIlly Haalan 3 16 May 2018.png

The shoes do come in versions for Maitreya, Belleza, and Slink feet (although I found that I did have to adjust them a bit using Right Click/Edit when I tried the Slink version on my Altamura mesh avatar feet). As of right now, I know of no other place on the grid that gives you a set of basic, classic women’s pumps with a 20-colour HUD, so load up all your Second Life female avatars and go pick up this Mother’s Day freebie, pronto! And tell your friends! 🙂

Not far from the vendor panel for the Sonnet pumps is a small Gifts shop for all the Hilly Haalan group gifts:

HIlly Haalan Gifts 16 May 2018_001

Inside, you will find fifty-two free outfits and shoes which you can pick up for free while wearing your Hilly Haalan group tag! In addition to those 52 gifts for the HH group, you can also pick up another ten items for free by joining the following groups (all of which are free-to-join), and then clicking on the appropriate vendor panels on the right-hand side brick wall when you enter the Gifts store:

  • SL Frees and Offers (4 gifts)
  • Maitreya Gifts, Sales and News (2 gifts)
  • Mesh Body Fiends (2 gifts)
  • Avangardista (2 gifts)

(If you want, you can join the Mesh Avatar Appearance Maniacs group for L$50 and pick up another 4 gifts while wearing that group tag.)

Here’s an example of one of the gifts you can pick up from Hilly Haalan for joining the SL Frees & Offers group, this beautiful red Audrey dress with black straps:

My avatar is wearing:

Mesh Head and Lipstick: Giselle Bento head by Altamura (no longer available for free; this was an Altamura gift from last Christmas at the eBENTO event, and you had to join the Altamura group for L$50 to get it)

Mesh Body: Jenny Bento body by Altamura (no longer available for free; this was a gift last Christmas from the Women Only Hunt)

Nails: Christmas Gold Bento glitter nails by Altamura (this was a Christmas Advent gift which is no longer available)

Hair: Beyoncé hair by enVOGUE (a L$1 gift from last year’s Hair Fair)

Mesh Eyes: Beyou blue eyes (L$1 on the SL Marketplace)

Dress: Audrey dress by Hilly Haalan (free group gift; the SL Frees & Offers group is free to join)

Shoes: Sonnet pumps by Hilly Haalan (free group gift; group is free to join; the Altamura Jenny mesh avatar body has Slink-compatible feet)

Necklace: Tillie necklace by Vanilla Bae (free hunt gift from the current Alice in Wonderland Hunt by Enchantment; you are looking for a small key with a rabbit’s head; the gift comes with a HUD with 7 metal options and 21 ribbon colour options to match literally any outfit; the hunt hint is “Take a seat”)

AO stand poses: SEmotion Newbie Girl Bento AO (L$1 on the SL Marketplace; be warned that the default walk for this AO is absolutely horrible and I had to swap it out for another walk animation taken from the Tuty’s Lucky Girl Bento AO, which is available for free at Tuty’s; note that you do not have to spend hundreds of Linden dollars on an animation override with Bento hand animations!)

TOTAL COST FOR THIS ENTIRE AVATAR: L$53 (L$50 group join fee for Altamura, and L$1 each for the hair, eyes and AO)

Second Life Steals, Deals and Freebies: Virtue

In a grid that seems to be overpopulated with stores selling slutty little dresses, it’s truly refreshing to find a store like Virtue. The proprietor, Abiela, is a Christian who believes that modesty does not mean being unfashionable. Her clothing is stylish, but not slutty! She makes and sells such beautiful dresses. I just love shopping there.

You can join the Virtue group for free and pick up no less than 28 dresses and blouses as group gifts in her new outdoors store (note that if you picked up all the freebies from her old store, you might want to come back and take a look again, as I see at least one new first-time group gift):

Virtue Group Gifts 15 May 2018.png

Tell her Vanity sent you! 😉 Here’s a SLURL that should take you directly to the entrance of her new store.

(Note: for details on what I am wearing in this picture, please see this blogpost.)
