Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: A Fifteen-Minute Elf Angel Makeover for FREE!

OK, here’s another one of my fifteen-minute avatar makeovers. I started off with one of my old alts, named Peace Dove, who is essentially the avatar embodiment of peace. Here’s the “before” shot, taken back in 2012:

Peace Dove 27 Sept 2018

And here are the “after” shots, all taken in the gorgeous fantasy sim called Lost Unicorn. Everything I am wearing I picked up for FREE!

Here are all the details on what I am wearing and where/when I got it:

Bento mesh head with animated elf ears and mesh eyes: Jessy 3 head by Safybelle, who you can get for free by earning 30,000 points on her in-store roulette wheel game or piggie sploder (scroll down to the very end of this blogpost to get more information). Seriously, this beautiful head is one of best-kept freebie secrets in Second Life!

Bento mesh body and hands AO: the Jenny Altamura mesh avatar head and body from the Freebie Megastore at London City (free; one skin tone; has Bento hands and head; more information here); you can remove the head and replace it with any other head, only if you got the freebie Jenny body from last year’s Women Only Hunt; however, you cannot remove the head on the version you can pick up now at the London City Freebie Megastore!

Body AO: Chubby Girl AO by [ImpEle] (free from the SL Marketplace). This is a nice, simple, calm, free AO with no crazy movements. Perfect for an angel wearing a ballgown!

Bento animated wings: angel wings by Blueberry (I picked these up for free using the discount vendor and the generous L$500 gift card offered by Blueberry at the Second Life 15th Anniversary Shopping Event)

Gown: Nadia ballgown in white from Hilly Haalan (free group gift; group is free to join)

Shoes (not shown): White flats by Garbaggio (part of the free sample pack for Slink feet; available on the SL Marketplace). Altamura mesh avatar bodies have Slink-compatible feet.

Jewelry: Daphne collar and bracelet by Beloved Jewelry (two free hunt items from the September Free Dove mini-hunt at the Beloved Jewelry mainstore). The included HUD gives a choice of 12 different metals and 33 different gemstones, so you can match any outfit!

Hair (the only thing I kept from the original avatar): Say 2 hair in white by elikatira (this was a freebie I picked up years ago, way back in the pre-mesh hair days, and I’m not sure it’s still available; I checked and it’s not on the SL Marketplace)

TOTAL COST FOR THIS AVATAR: FREE!

Vampire roleplay is a very popular pastime in Second Life, so today I decided to do a 15-minute makeover on a vampire avatar. Here’s the “Before” look, the now-familiar Iliana vampire avatar from SL’s Fantasy starter avatar collection:

Vampire Makeover Before Iliana 22 Sept 2018

And here’s the “After” look (please click on each picture to see it in a larger size):

This avatar is wearing:

Mesh Head, Vampire Teeth, and Facial AO: Maia Bento mesh head from Akeruka (this was a time-limited free group gift which is no longer available for free; the group join fee was L$150). More details here.

Mesh Body and Hands AO: Jenny Bento mesh body by Altamura (available for free at the Freebie Megastore at London City). I removed the included head to replace it with the Maia head. More details here.

Gown: Well of Souls gown by Silvan Moon Designs (free gift from the recent SL15B shopping event).

Shoes (Not Shown): Black flats by Garbaggio (part of the free sample pack for Slink feet; available on the SL Marketplace). Altamura mesh avatar bodies have Slink-compatible feet.

Jewelry: Daphne collar, earrings, and Bento ring by Beloved Jewelry (three free hunt items from the September Free Dove mini-hunt at the Beloved Jewelry mainstore). The included HUD gives a choice of 12 different metals and 33 different gemstones!

Body AO: Chubby Girl AO by [ImpEle] (free from the SL Marketplace). This is a nice, simple, calm AO with no crazy movements.

Hair: Que Bella in abyss black from Hairoin (a store which is unfortunately no longer in Second Life; I bought this many years ago and I forget what I paid for this)

TOTAL COST FOR THIS MAKEOVER (not including the hair): L$150 (the Akeruka group join fee)

UPDATED! Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free Male and Female Mesh Full-Body Avatars from Altamura!

UPDATE Sept. 28th: For a current, up-to-date list of free or inexpensive options for mesh avatar heads and bodies for female Second Life avatars, please see this blogpost. For a current, up-to-date list of options for free and inexpensive male mesh avatar heads and bodies, please see this blogpost

Late last year, Altamura very generously gave the Jenny full-body mesh avatar as a free hunt prize in the Women Only Hunt, and the Robert full-body mesh avatar as a free hunt prize for the Men Only Hunt. Altamura has also given out free male (Max) and female (Valentina) mesh bodies at the freebie stores at Ajuda SL Brasil and Unihispana Crea. These are beautifully designed mesh avatar bodies, equal in quality to the much pricier versions available.

Well, the Men Only Hunt and Women Only Hunt are on once again, and this time around, there’s both a male mesh avatar head and body package (Tommy) and a female mesh avatar head and body package (Emanuelle) as FREE hunt prizes!

Altamura MOH and WOH Gifts 3 Aug 2018.png

To get the Tommy full-body mesh avatar, you have to find a black moustache. To get the Emanuelle full-body mesh avatar, you are looking for half a coconut. The hunt officially starts tomorrow, August 4th and runs until August 18th, but I was able to find both hunt prizes already today, Friday, August 3rd.

You don’t need to join a group to get the hunt prizes, but if you do get the Emanuelle female mesh avatar body, there’s also a free set of lipstick appliers, just for it. Just click the panel you see in the picture above the Emanuelle display (you’ll have to join the Altamura Design/Mesh Avatars group for L$50 to get the lipstick appliers).

As I have said before, I have found that clothing designed for the Maitreya Lara mesh avatar body fits the Altamura female body very well, with a minimum of fuss. Also, the Altamura female mesh bodies have Slink-compatible feet, so any shoe designed for Slink feet should work well (the female mesh body gift comes in three foot heights, selectable via HUD: flat, medium, and high). The bodies have Bento hands, and (in a nice touch) Altamura has included a hand AO which cycles natural hand positions, which you can use with your regular (non-Bento) AO. Both bodies also come with a facial AO.

Both Tommy and Emanuelle come with a HUD which allows you a complete set of alpha selections to make any clothes look good. However, you should know that, on the male Tommy avatar, you will not be able to remove the attached head to replace it with another head. However, on the female Emanuelle body, you can remove the head, eyelashes, teeth, and hair and use a different head with the body (like, say, that beautiful new Maia Bento mesh head you picked up for free from Akeruka). Also note that Omega skin appliers will not work with these hunt prize bodies. You are stuck with the single skin tone they have.

Here are a couple of shots of the Emanuelle mesh avatar body so you can see what it looks like (please click on each picture to see it full size):

Here’s the SLURL to take you to the new location of the Altamura store (note that the store has recently moved). If you haven’t bought a mesh avatar body yet because of the cost, this is your perfect opportunity to give it a try, for free! Happy hunting!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Altamura Mesh Heads and Bodies for Male and Female Avatars at the eBento Event

UPDATE Sept. 28th: For a current, up-to-date list of free or inexpensive options for mesh avatar heads and bodies for female Second Life avatars, please see this blogpost. For a current, up-to-date list of free options for free and inexpensive male mesh avatar heads and bodies, please see this blogpost

Altamura often has special deals for mesh avatar heads and bodies at various Second Life shopping events, and the current round of the eBento event is no exception. This time, Altamura is offering the same great deal for both male and female avatars: a Bento mesh head for only L$350, and a Bento mesh body for only L$500!

ALtamura at eBento 21 July 2018.png

These items are all Omega compatible, so you can use Omega skin appliers with them. I have found that the Altamura female mesh bodies work very well with clothing designed for Maitreya Lara mesh bodies, so clothing should not be a problem.

You do have to join the Altamura Design/Mesh Avatars group for L$50 in order to get these bargains. I would suggest that you join the group and stay subscribed, because Altamura offers these sorts of deals regularly.

Here’s a SLURL to take directly to the Altamura booth at the eBento event.

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Get the Maia Bento Mesh Head from Akeruka For Only L$150!

UPDATE Sept. 28th: For a current, up-to-date list of free or inexpensive options for mesh avatar heads and bodies for female Second Life avatars, please see this blogpost. For a current, up-to-date list of free and inexpensive options for male mesh avatar heads and bodies, please see this blogpost

As I have reported in the past on this blog:

Over the past year, Akeruka has had four different dollarbie Bento mesh heads—two female, and two male—as group gifts for members of the [AK] Heads, News & Support group; the group join fee was L$150, so that works out to 38.5 Linden dollars per head, an amazing deal! So you might want to join this group, in case they decide to offer other dollarbie deals on Bento mesh heads.

Well, Akeruka has just announced a new anniversary group gift to members of their group: a fully-adjustable, fully-featured Bento mesh head for female avatars, called Maia! It is available for FREE if you join the [AK] Heads, News & Support group. You pay the vendor panel L$1, and it automatically refunds your Linden dollar.

The fee to join this group is only L$150, so you get a beautiful Bento mesh head for only L$150 total, which has the same level of features of other Bento mesh heads which retail for as much as L$5,000! This is an absolutely outstanding deal, and one you should take advantage of, especially if you were sitting on the fence about upgrading your avatar to a Bento mesh head because of the high cost of other brands such as Catwa and Lelutka.

And, if you were lucky enough to be able to pick up all 5 dollarbie heads offered as Akeruka group gifts (the 4 previous offers and now this current offer), then your cost per Bento mesh head works out to only L$31 each! That’s AMAZING!

Here’s a picture of what Maia looks like (taken from the Akeruka Faceboook group):

Maia Head 1 June 2018

You do not have to pay extra for body skin appliers! The package includes a full set of skin appliers for Maitreya, Belleza, and Slink mesh bodies to match the ten included skintones of the Maia head. There are also Omega appliers for use with any Omega-compatible mesh avatar body.

The head comes with a HUD which controls the skin tones (10 included), the hairbase and eyebrows (white, blonde, red, brown and black), eyelashes, eyeshadows, and lipsticks, plus blush and freckles layers. There’s also an animations HUD and a teeth HUD, which includes vampire teeth among other options! Here’s a look at the animations HUD, which features 12 full face motion capture (mocap) animations, plus another 18 available expressions:

Maia 2 1 June 2018.png

New to this Akeruka mesh head are mesh eyes, which are also controlled on the HUD:

Maia Eyes 1 June 2018.png

Obviously, the Akeruka sim is very crowded. Rather than trying over and over again to get into a packed sim when it is over its avatar capacity, purchase the Get Me In Teleport Hammer for free from the SL Marketplace. This handy tool allows you to automate your teleport requests, so you can go do something else while it keeps trying to get your avatar into a crowded sim! You’ll be alerted with a special sound when you finally arrive at your destination.

Here’s the SLURL to the Akeruka store. Go and get this head, you will not be disappointed! Here are two completely different looks I was able to get with this head:

Maia 3 1 June 2018.png

Maia 4 1 June 2018.png

Happy shopping! 🙂

UPDATE 5:21 p.m.: There is a known issue with the Belleza skin appliers included in the Maia head package. They work with older Belleza bodies, but they do not seem to work with the latest version 5.0 of the Belleza mesh avatar bodies (the update with the Bento hands). The work-around is to use the Belleza Omega relay and the Omega appliers, which do work correctly. That is what I did in the last picture and I was very satisfied with the result!

UPDATE 7:43 p.m.: I just learned from the group chat for the [AK] Heads, News & Support group that this group gift will be available until June 15th, so you’ve got a bit of time to get down there to pick it up. After that, it will be available for its regular price of L$4,999. Thank you for the information, SlackGirl and Czarina Beth!

UPDATE June 2nd: I have discovered that, like the last couple of times when Akeruka offered a group gift female mesh head, that they will also be offering a male group gift mesh head right after that! The male group gift head will be a group gift starting on June 16th, and the offer will last for a two week period as well. So join that group now! Thanks for letting me know, Tay Moon!
