Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free Head and Body Skins from Boataom

Looking for other Black Friday weekend sales in Second Life? Start here.

Like thousands of other stores in Second Life, Boataom is throwing a Black Friday sale, with 60% off everything in the store. But did you know, that if you join the Boataom store group for free, you can pick up some lovely head skins, plus free body skins in the matching skin tones?

Just teleport into the store, head to the back wall, and you will see a generous group gifts section, which includes skins for LeLutka Evo X, Genus, and Catwa mesh heads. And, if you look up on the wall to your left, you can pick up body skins which match the skin tones of the Boataom head skins! The free skins are complete fatpacks of all the Boataom skin tones, and they come in packages for all the major female mesh body brands:

  • Maitreya mesh body applier, Omega applier and Bakes on Mesh skins
  • Legacy mesh body applier and Bakes on Mesh skins
  • Belleza mesh body applier, Omega applier, and Bakes on Mesh skins
  • Slink mesh body applier, Omega applier, and Bakes on Mesh skins
  • Kupra mesh body Bakes on Mesh skins
  • eBody Reborn mesh body Bakes on Mesh skins

In addition to head and body skins, you can also pick up some free makeup, hair, and even a static mesh head! There’s a second static mesh head for only L$10. (I reviewed both of these Boataom mesh heads here; they’re both not that great, sadly, and they don’t compare with the numerous free and inexpensive Bento mesh heads you can get elsewhere.)

Here’s a look I put together, using the free Kaya head which I picked up as a Christmas gift last year from LeLutka, and the free, Maitreya Lara-compatible Atenea mesh body, a Lucky Board gift from LucyBody. On this avatar, I used the Nicole head skin, paired with the Maitreya Bakes on Mesh skin, both in the Latina skin tone:

Looking fabulous! I picked up the hair for free (I believe it was an Advent calendar gift from Firelight Hair from a couple of years ago), and I got the dress for free, too (I joined the Ersch store group when they advertised a free join period, and I can pick up L$250 in free store credit each month as a group member, so I spent some on this dress!)

In fact, the total cost for this avatar look was only L$250 (for the Bakes on Mesh kit for the LucyBody Atenea mesh body, so you can use BoM skins with it). You see, it pays off to be a relentless Second Life freebie fashionista and bargain hunter! 😜 Further proof that you do not need to spend thousands of Linden dollars to have a well put-together avatar.

According to a notice posted to the Boataom group, while the rest of the group gifts will probably stick around, the body skins will only be available for free until December 4th, 2022, so don’t delay! Here’s your taxi.

Happy freebie shopping!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: 7 Deadly S[k]ins L$1 Daily Sales—Pick Up a Fatpack of Skins for Only One Linden Dollar!

Have you joined the RyanSchultz.com Steals, Deals & Freebies group yet? I will be posting EVEN MORE news and tips on finding fabulous freebies and bargains in Second Life than I post here on the blog! More information on this brand new SL group here.

I don’t know how I missed this bargain (my freebie fashionista skills must be slipping!), but Second Life skin maker 7 Deadly S[k]ins has a daily dollarbie deal for you! The store sells skins for a variety of brands of mesh heads, including Genus, LeLutka, Catwa, and LAQ, and the packages I have picked up so far include head skin, plus Bakes on Mesh skin in a range of skin tones (usually, ten).

It can be somewhat tricky to search for the store name because of the weird punctuation, so just do a search for “deadly” under Places in Search, or use this SLURL. 7 Deadly S[k]ins is also one of those annoying stores with a forced, central spawn point, so you’ll land up outside the entrance of the store. Go inside, and you’ll be facing the front counter. Enter the door on the right, then go straight through a second door, then turn left, and the Today’s Offer vendor panel will be on the wall.

You don’t need to join any group; just pay the vendor L$1. The offer changes every day, and consists of a generous fatpack of skins in various skin tones. Here is today’s gift, the Jeanelle skin for LeLutka Evo heads:

Here are a couple of examples of skins from previous days which I picked up for only L$1, the Gaelic and Francis skins, both for Genus mesh heads.

I particularly like this last one, the Francis skin in walnut!

Given that most fatpacks of skins at 7 Deadly S[k]ins sell for L$850, this is quite the bargain! The store sells skins for a variety of brands of mesh heads, so simply show up every day to check out the latest offering! Happy freebie shopping!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free Bakes on Mesh Skin from MILA

Now that The Genus Project has finally won the DMCA case filed against it, and reopened their store, the free group gift of the Strong Face head is once again available from the group notices of the GenusProject group (the group is free to join). This is a stunningly beautiful head, with all the bells and whistles of the full-price product, and if you haven’t picked one up yet to play with, now’s your time!

The head does come with a starter skin applier in three skin tones, but if you are looking for some more skin to use with that head, MILA is currently giving away two Bakes on Mesh skin tones of their Aggie skin, which is intended for Genus and LeLutka mesh heads:

So, I decided to visit their store (here’s the exact SLURL to their group gift wall; you will need to right-click on it and select Show Map, and follow the red arrow from the central spawn point). To pick up this free gift, you must first join the Mila Poses group, which is free to join.

Here is what the darker Aggie skin tone looks like on the free Strong Face head from The Genus Project:

This avatar is wearing:

Mesh Head: Strong Face gift Bento mesh head from The Genus Project (free group gift)

Hair: Aria by D!va Hair. Join the D!va store group for free and you can pick up this lovely Aria hairstyle from the panel right behind the front counter, which comes in a full fatpack of colours, plus a styling HUD.

Mesh Body, Nails, Rings, and Shoes: the Kalhene Ariadna mesh body, version 2.4. which I picked up for free at the time. Please note the Ariadna body is no longer available, but the L$1,695 Anya mesh body by Kalhene (which is frequently updated, and simply gets better and better with each new update!) is the successor to the original Ariadna freebie mesh body. Anya is available to buy at the Kalhene store, and is fully Maitreya Lara compatible; please see this blogpost for further information. I am mightily impressed with this body, and it is a great bargain!

Dress: the Lyna dress is a free group gift from Seniha (the group is free to join).

TOTAL COST FOR THIS AVATAR LOOK: FREE! (L$1,695 if you have to buy the Anya mesh body).

Happy freebie shopping!

UPDATED! Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: The Cat Calm Bento Mesh Head from Genesis Lab

Genesis Lab is offering yet another steep discount on a Bento mesh head for female avatars. This one is called Cat Calm, and if you join the GenesisLab group for free, you can pick one up for only L$55, a 99% discount!

As you can see, this head has a striking, angular, chiseled appearance, with a sharp, defined jawline and high cheekbones:

The package includes Bakes on Mesh skin in six different skin tones with brown brows, light brows, and no brows options, but I decided to use a recent group gift Bakes on Mesh skin I picked up from Wow Skins instead, called Elora Bronze. Here is what the Cat Calm head looks like without any adjustments to the head or body sliders:

The cellphone HUD on the right is the Material Editor, which allows you to change various aspects of different parts of the head: tint, full bright, transparency/blend, glossiness, etc. The default head comes with an absolutely hideous white, diamond-shaped tattoo under one eye (?!??), which I immediately removed by clicking on the Tattoo button, then the reset arrow icon in the upper right-hand corner of the phone.

To the left are five of the mini-HUDs that control eyeshadows, eye colours (the mesh eyes are included in the package), hairbases, eyelashes, and lipsticks. (You can also tint and adjust all of these features using the Material Editor HUD.)

Here’s what the head looks after I made some slider adjustments to the mouth area, and with some hair (a free gift I picked up at last year’s Hair Fair called Lara Winks):

One of the things that drives me crazy is when stores do not include adequate documentation in their mesh head or body packages. There is a single notecard in the Cat Calm package that mentions a few new features, and nothing else at all! Even worse, unlike some more popular heads, I could not find a brand website with any online documentation, either, which many brands offer. It’s basically trial and error here, folks.

In particular, the included facial animation override is absurdly tiny, with lettering that is impossible to decipher, and I had to make guesses at what the various buttons did. Not impressed, Genesis Lab.

Here’s a full-length shot, after I played around with the body sliders to my satisfaction (I paired this head with the Classic mesh body group gift from Meshbody):

This is a strikingly beautiful head, and at L$55 it is a real bargain.

UPDATE June 3rd, 2020: Here’s another look, once again pairing the Cat Calm head by Genesis Lab with the Classic Meshbody group gift, and using the included Bakes-on-Mesh skin tone number 5 with brown eyebrows:

I have a little test I perform to judge how attractive a female avatar is: I plunk her down next to the dancefloor at Frank’s Jazz Club (as I have in the picture below), and I wait to see how long it takes before some male avatar hits on her. This one? I broke my old record! Less than 15 seconds! And there were two of them! (Yes, I am evil. But I don’t catfish. I just ignore their instant messages.)

I think this avatar look compares quite favourably with a Maitreya Lara mesh body/Catwa Bento mesh head combination which would set you back at least L$7,750 (and that’s before you spend any money on skin appliers, hair, clothing, shoes, etc.).

The hair, gown, gold choker, shoes, and AO were all freebies I picked up somewhere along the way. So the total cost for this entire avatar was only L$56 (just L$55 for the head, and L$1 for the body)…truly an outstanding bargain for a beautiful avatar!

Now, I do not know how long this promotion will last, so you might want to pop down to the Genesis Lab store soon (here’s the exact SLURL of the vendor panel in the store).
