Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free Gifts from the Halloween Shop and Hop Event!

Have you joined the RyanSchultz.com Steals, Deals & Freebies group yet? I will be posting EVEN MORE news and tips on finding fabulous freebies and bargains in Second Life than I post here on the blog! More information on this brand new SL group here.

There’s no less than 14 shopping sims at this year’s Halloween Shop and Hop event in Second Life! At every merchant booth, there is a free gift for you—many are Halloween-themed, but others are not. Below, Vanity Fair models a selection of gifts which I think you’ll enjoy.

Once I saw the generous Shop and Hop gifts from Sintiklia and AtaMe, I knew that I would be taking this picture! The Yasmine hair from Sintiklia comes in a fatpack of regular and Halloween shades, with styling options for both normal and windswept looks! And the stunning Lilly gown fatpack by AtaMe includes a HUD to change the texture of the bodice to five different metals, as well as select both the colour (6 shades) and the transparency (4 levels) of the swirling skirts. The Lilly gown comes in sizes to fit Maitreya, Legacy, and Kupra mesh bodies.

Strike a pose! The Lilly gown by AtaMe and Yasmine hair by Sintiklia

There’s several beautiful ballgowns at the Halloween Shop and Hop for you to pick up! From the SOFIA booth comes this sexy red Anne Star gown (sizes: Maitreya Lara, Belleza Freya Perky, Slink Hourglass, and Meshbody Legacy).

The Anne Star gown package includes a set of cream-coloured Eden jewelry (earrings, necklace, a ring and even a clutch purse!), which Vanity Fair is wearing below with the gift from Sascha’s Designs, a romantic cream gown with an optional flexiprim skirt attachment:

You’re all set for your next fancy event in Second Life in this ensemble! The gown comes in sizes to fit Maitreya regular and Petite; Legacy regular and Perky; Slink Physique and Hourglass; Belleza Freya; Tonic Curvy and Fine; and Kupra mesh bodies, as well as a medium-sized standard fitmesh version. (Please note that when you add the unpacker HUD, it rather disconcertingly fills your entire viewer screen, so attach it to your right hand instead, right click on the HUD and select Edit, then drag what versions you need from the Contents tab to your inventory.)

The gift from Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai of Silvan Moon Designs is this Anais Saturna gown, which comes with an optional coat and a chain belt in three colours: black, gold, or pewter as shown (the dress and coat comes in Maitreya Lara and Slink sizes).

From the TO.KISKI booth comes this complete outfit (dress, shoes, cat head band, and an animesh floating heart for your hand), plus a black voodoo rabbit doll!

This sexy red metallic dress with matching heels is sure to be a hit at the nightclub! The dress and shoes come in sizes to fit Maitreya, Belleza/Hourglass, and Legacy/Classic. Here’s s short video showing you one of the six different animesh hearts in action:

The generous gift from Essenz is a complete fatpack of these Aranea pumps, adorned with a spiderweb and dangling spider! Perfect for a dressier Hallowe’en outfit! These shoes fit Legacy, Maitreya, and Belleza mesh feet.

The gift from Caverna Obscura is this lovely autumn maple leaves head wreath, which is completely adjustable (other styling credits for this autumn maiden look can be found here):

Among the many gifts from the Petrichor booth are a set of Azre weedcrowns, which come in no less than 36 different colours!

If you’re trying to pull together a witch look this season, here are two gifts for either end of your witch! (Do you know which end of your witch is which? 😉 ) The witch heels are from Hilly Haalan (they come in two colours, black as shown and green, sized to fit Maitreya, Belleza, and Slink mesh feet), and the wonderful witch’s hat and rigged mask are from Giulia Design. Click on each picture to see them in a larger size, and appreciate all the details…

And if you’re feeling devilish, perhaps you’ll want to snag these delightful purple horns from AERTH, which feature an animated orange swirling pattern! You’re sure to stand out in any crowd of demons! 😉

I leave you with the present from Jian, which is a keeper! It’s a cat sleeping on a pillow. If you click on it, you can change the texture of the feline’s fur, as well as the colour of the pillow! It’s adorable, and instantly earns a place in my Linden home.

The Hallowe’en Shop and Hop is on until the end of October, of course, so there’s no hurry! I’d suggest waiting until later on in the shopping event, when it’s less crowded and laggy.

Second Life Creator Spotlight: Three More Historical and Fantasy Outfits from Silvan Moon Designs

Have you joined the RyanSchultz.com Steals, Deals & Freebies group yet? I will be posting EVEN MORE news and tips on finding fabulous freebies and bargains in Second Life than I now post here on the blog! More information on this brand new SL group here.

Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai, the owners of Silvan Moon Designs, do such amazing work that I wanted to once again showcase three of their most recent releases. Silvan Moon Designs (SLURL to their in-world storeSL MarketplaceFlickr) specializes in historical, fantasy, and role play outfits, consistently beautiful and detailed virtual dresses, gowns, and outfits that I have enjoyed over many years!

Afternoon Tea Gown

The Afternoon Tea gown set comes in the Maitreya Lara size only (although you should be able to make it work with other brands of mesh bodies by using the alpha sections on their HUDs). This delightful period gown comes in six different colours:

  • Blooming (light blue and white)
  • Brew (monochrome gray and white)
  • Jam (a deep violet and white)
  • Matcha (a lovely green and white)
  • Merlot (deep red and white)
  • Oolong (a darker blue and white)

Here Vanity Fair is wearing the Oolong version of this wonderful, evocative Victorian gown:

The detail on this gown is wonderful, both front and back!

These Afternoon Tea gown pictures were taken at the Mieville Doyle sim

The Afternoon Tea gown is available at the Silvan Moon Designs main store (exact SLURL), for L$400 per colour.

Daughter of Olaf Tunic Set

This wonderful outfit is available for sale at the Silvan Moon Designs booth at the Viking Saga round of the Enchantment shopping event in Second Life (here’s the exact SLURL of the booth at the event).

The Daughter of Olaf tunic set consists of four separate pieces which you can mix and match to a certain extent (wearing the shirt just with the girdle, with the maille, or both; wearing the outfit with or without leggings). The four pieces are:

  • a long shirt that could double as a dress;
  • a maille armour layer to wear overtop of the dress;
  • a girdle with an elven tree design to wear overtop the maille;
  • system layer/Bakes on Mesh leggings (note: no Omega or Maitreya appliers).

The Daughter of Olaf outfit comes in eight different colours: aqua, black, blue, brown, olive, purple, rose, and white:

The outfit shown below is the brown one (the black staff, black leggings and elven boots are not part of the original outfit):

This picture of the Daughter of Olaf outfit was taken in the Lord of the Rings — Middle Earth Roleplay sim.

The Daughter of Olaf outfit costs only L$400 per colour, or you can buy the entire fatpack of eight colours for L$3,000.

The Virgin Queen Gown

Now this is a gown fit for a queen (virgin or otherwise 😉 )! The outfit consists of three parts: the main gown, separate ruffled Elizabethan collar and puffed sleeves, and the final touch of separate gold-and-pearl attachments to accentuate the breast and waist. The Virgin Queen gown set comes in six jewel-tone colours: amethyst, emerald, onyx, ruby, sapphire, and turquoise. Shown below is ruby:

These Virgin Queen gown pictures were taken at Lundy historical roleplay sim, where it’s always 1589!

The Virgin Queen gown is available at the We Love Roleplay shopping event (here’s the exact SLURL of the Sylvan Moon Designs booth), where you can buy this sumptuous, bejeweled gown for only L$360 for each colour. And if you simply cannot make up your mind, why not splurge and buy the entire fatpack of six colours for only L$2,100?

Such a gown demands an appropriate animation override, and I can highly recommend the Southern Belle and Woman in Ballgown AO from Tuty Bento and Mocap Animations store (available in-world at this SLURL or via the SL Marketplace for L$650). It’s the perfect AO for full-skirted ballgowns such as this Elizabethan masterpiece!

Or, if you prefer, you can purchase a Shoulder Overrider HUD which works with your existing AO, just lifting your arms higher so they don’t poke through the voluminous skirt! The Shoulder Overrider is available on the SL Marketplace for only L$299 from Ethik Nacon and it was originally intended for fatter avatars so their hands don’t disappear into their bodies, but it also works great for gowns with wide, full skirts or oriental gowns with long, full sleeves that you want to show off!

Why not pick up a Silvan Moon Designs garment for your next adventure in Second Life?

Second Life Creator Spotlight: The Latest Releases from Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai of Silvan Moon Designs

This is the first post in a new category I call the Second Life Creator Spotlight, where I focus on the work of the many talented fashion designers and content creators in Second Life. Due to a miscommunication, I had not received any new releases from Silvan Moon Designs for quite some time, and then, suddenly, I got a whole bunch, all at once!

Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai, the owners of Silvan Moon Designs, do such amazing work that I wanted to showcase three of their recent releases. Silvan Moon Designs (SLURL to their in-world storeSL MarketplaceFlickr) specializes in historical, fantasy, and role play outfits. Both my main Second Life avatar, Vanity Fair, and my medieval roleplay avatar, Scarborough Fair, own dozens of their truly wonderful dresses and gowns! (Yes, those are their honest-to-God legacy names; I got extremely lucky when “Fair” was available as an SL last name for only a two-week period back in April 2008, and I immediately snapped up both names!)

Just one past example of Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai’s beautiful work for Silvan Moon Designs: the fantastical Iracebeth of Crims Gown (please see this blogpost for more pictures and details)

The fabulous Prima Donna gown comes in three parts: a corset top, a full skirt, and a lovely extra touch: separate, detachable sprigs of holly to add to the skirt, perfect for your next virtual Christmas celebration! This gorgeous gown comes in seven different colours: amethyst, black, crimson, emerald, sapphire, turquoise, and violet (shown here), and fits the Maitreya Lara body.

This gown features a laced-up back, and a huge bow on the skirt. Just add a fan and some opera glasses, and you’re ready to turn some heads at your next party!

The romantic, puffed-sleeve Princess Buttercup gown can be worn alone, or with the included translucent overskirt, and is available in the following six colours: blush, mint, periwinkle, pink (as shown below), teal, and white, at L$450 each. This gown comes in sizes to fit both Maitreya Lara and Slink female mesh bodies.

Finally, we have the Seventh Oracle gown, which also comes in sizes to fit Maitreya and Slink. This gown is the same design and price as the Princess Buttercup gown, but it comes in black with your choice of six jewel-tone accents: black, cobalt, crimson, emerald, purple and teal.

Once again, you can add an optional translucent overskirt, in the same accent colour as the gown:

By the way, Solas and Bee appear to be in the middle of a complete redesign of the sim where their stores, Silvan Moon Designs and The White Armory, are located:

I went through the entire store, looked and looked, but I could not find the display or the price for the Prima Donna gown! So, if you are wandering around lost, and cannot find any of these gowns, please send a notecard to either Bee Dumpling or Solas NaGealai (a.k.a Solas Enchantment), and I’m quite sure that will be happy to assist you!

Here’s your taxi to the entrance of Silvan Moon Designs.

Vanity Fair is also wearing:

All pictures except the last one were taken at the Angel Manor Estate in Second Life.

UPDATE Nov. 19th, 2020: I have been informed that the Prima Donna gown is currently for sale at the Enchantment shopping event (the theme is Phantom of the Opera, and there is also a free hunt!). Thanks to Gwen Enchanted for the tip!

Fantasy Faire in Second Life Runs from April 23rd to May 10th, 2020

Celebrating its twelfth year, Fantasy Faire 2020 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, role-players and performers in Second Life, and a major in-world fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

So I decided to dress up Vanity Fair in full-blown fairy godmother mode, and go explore the 18 beautifully-decorated sims!

There are 13 shopping regions, with a wide variety of merchandise, some exclusive to the Faire, plus dance and theatre performances, DJ parties, auctions, questing, a Literary Festival, fantasy art, events and role-playing, as thousands of Second Life residents and creators bring their own visions together to help support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.

Fantasy Faire is the perfect time to pick up that winged horse you always wanted!

Fantasy Faire’s extremely talented sim designers do such an amazing job each year. Here are just a few pictures I took in my travels:

If you’ve never been to Second Life before, Fantasy Faire is your perfect starting point! Why not come and join in the magic today? Here’s how to get started for free.

I’ll grant you three wishes!

Vanity Fair is wearing:

Gown and Wings: the Fairy Godmother gown set in dreamy blue by Silvan Moon Designs

Hair Roses: Light blue roses tiara (part of the Ninde gown set, a 14,000 members group gift from PurpleMoon Creations, a store which has since closed down after ten years operating on the grid, but still has a few items up on the SL Marketplace)

Jewelry: Antigone silver and ice earrings and necklace (a long-ago free gift from Kouse’s Sanctum, another store which has closed, but still has a few older items on the SL Marketplace)

Magic Wand: a free hunt prize from a long-ago hunt, I forget where I got this!

Shoes (not seen): Betty ballet flats by Damien Fate on the SL Marketplace

Hair: Meadow hair by Magika Hair

Animation Override: This is a gown AO by Kamilah Hauptmann selling for L$1,000 on the SL Marketplace, which has settings for various sizes and styles of full-skirted ballgowns. I bought this years and years ago and it has certainly served me well, but if I were starting out from scratch, I would purchase the Southern Belle & Woman in Ballgown Bento AO from Tuty instead, as it is only L$650 and has more natural upper body animations.

Particle Effects: Mystic Shower Sparkles in white from FallnAngel Creations (a free hunt prize from their amazing semiannual hunts; this store has since left the grid)

Face and Body Lights: Sometimes you just need a good, strong set of face and body lights to show off a look you’re proud of! This high-wattage version was a freebie from House of Heart, a hair store that has long since left the grid.

Vanity Fair is also wearing:

  • the Kimberly Catwa Bento mesh head
  • the Maitreya Lara mesh body
  • Daria skin by The Skinnery
  • and Realistic eyes in strong green by Miriel.

See you at Fantasy Faire!
