Second prize, a one year’s subscription to either Maya or Zbrush, went to Ebucezam, by Tron. Third place, with a prize of an Oculus Rift headset and Touch controllers, went to Horizon Maze, by Ecne.

I do have a bone to pick with Linden Lab; they still haven’t published an official list of contest entries so we can go explore them all! The following list is courtesy of Gindipple:

Win a Penthouse Apartment in Virtual Universe!

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am choosing to participate in the Virtual Universe (VU) Initial Coin Offering Partner Program. Why? Two reasons:

  1. After my recent guided tour of VU, I feel very strongly that this is going to be a successful and popular virtual world/MMO hybrid platform, and I want to be a part of it when VU launches their beta this summer. This is the very first blockchain-based virtual world that I actually feel excited about!
  2. As a Canadian citizen, I reside in one of the three countries where I am currently legally forbidden from purchasing VU tokens (the other two are the United States and China). This means that the only way I can legitimately earn VU tokens to use in this social VR space before the beta launch is via the VU ICO Partner Program.

I want you to know this up front: this blogpost is a promotion for VU, in exchange for VU tokens.  You can follow on this webpage to see how many VU tokens I have earned by completing tasks in this Partner Program if you wish (right now, I am at number two on the VU Token Leaderboard). There’s nothing stopping you from participating in this Partner Program yourself, and earning some VU tokens!

IMPORTANT: VU Tokens are not a real currency. They are ERC-20 based blockchain tokens intended to permit players of Virtual Universe exclusive access to digital assets within a VR game known as Virtual Universe (VU). They are a form of in-game virtual currency.  Virtual value attributed to the VU Token will be as a result of in-game efforts by players, and no future value is represented or guaranteed.

Linden Lab Announces a New Sansar Contest: Build a Maze or Labyrinth and Win a Prize!

Eliot, the Community Manager of Sansar, has announced that Linden Lab is holding another contest for Sansar experience creators!

According to the official announcement:

For this contest, we are challenging you to build a labyrinth experience in Sansar.

This does not have to be a maze or labyrinth in the very literal sense where they are bound by their real-world distinctions (i.e. a labyrinth being a continuous path, a maze being made up of branching paths with many dead-ends). You can be creative and adventurous in the path you put before these wayward avatars. Interactivity and mind-bending brain teasers will be prized highly.

However these experiences do have to meet certain criteria to qualify for this contest:

  • The goal of the experience should be for a user’s avatar to get from Point A to Point B
  • The user must complete some form of “challenge” or puzzle in order to reach Point B
    • This challenge can be a maze, a nebulous branching pathway, a series of puzzles etc.
  • It should be clear when a user has successfully reached Point B, after having completed the “challenge”.

For a good Labyrinth experience we recommend the following:

  • A sense of wonder and exploration
  • That “A-ha!” moment for beating a good “brain-teaser”, when the “challenge” is complete
  • A creative use of Sansar that pushes the boundaries of what the platform can do
  • The subversion of a user’s expectations

The experiences submitted to this contest will be judged on complexity, creativity, interactivity, and enjoyment by a panel of Sansar staff.

We want to see experiences that are recognizably a maze or labyrinth to the average person, but that get creative with the “challenge” portion of the experience. We especially want to see experiences that amaze and delight users, without being too easy.

There will be one Grand Prize winner, followed by 2nd & 3rd place:

  • Grand Prize – $5,000
  • 2nd Place – 1 year subscription to a 3D modeling tool: Maya or Zbrush, winner’s choice!
  • 3rd Place – A VR headset (Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch)

The deadline to submit your experience by 5:00pm PDT on Sunday 17th June 2018.

Here’s the form to submit your labyrinth for consideration.
