Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Nine Blogs You Must Follow!

FabFree.png

Back in June, I posted about 4 blogs and 4 Flickr groups you should follow for news and pictures of Second Life freebies. The four blogs I originally recommended were:

The first three I check daily; the fourth one I check about once a week, just to see what’s new. I often find some treasure that I have unaccountably overlooked in my travels across the grid! The third one is good because it is an aggregator; it gathers together blogposts from various blogs such as FabFree (but note that not all of the posts in SL Freebies Cheapies Dollarbies Lucky Chairs Hunts are about free items; there’s a mix of free items and deals).

Well, I have found another 5 blogs which are also worth checking out regularly if you are serious about hunting for steals, deals, and freebies in Second Life! Let’s look at them, one by one:

SL Freebie Addiction

SL Freebie Addiction is a blog written by Genna since 2011, entirely devoted to freebies. She very clearly indicates what items are and aren’t free in her detailed styling notes under each picture, and she also indicates whether items are group gifts or hunt gifts.

0L$ Fashion in Second Life 2

This is a Japanese blogger who posts every day about the freebies she has found all over the grid. Right now she is putting up one post every day showing the advent gifts she was able to pick up on that day. All items pictured include a SLURL to help you find it in-world. Here’s a link to the blog.

Midnight Magpie

Midnight Magpie is another blog which is really covering all the advent calendar goodies right now! Every picture includes full style notes with SLURLs to the stores.

Pure Eggs & Spam

Faithless Babii is a relentless freebie hunter, often churning out two or even three blogposts a day! She covers freebies from all over the grid. Pure Eggs & Spam also covers sale events such as L$35 Saturdays. She seems to have a knack for finding things that other bloggers overlook.

Dancing in the Square

But I saved the very best for last: this blogger, Cherie, is an absolute inspiration to all freebie fashionistas! Cherie pulls together impressive fashion displays, only using freebies and group gifts! She’s fearless, too; she’s not afraid to try a men’s jacket or a men’s pair of shoes on a female avatar if it fits the look she is trying to create. Browse through her blog and you’ll get all kinds of tips on where to find great group gifts and freebies, and how to put them together in true style!

Here are just a few pictures from Dancing in the Square (I really like how she includes a bag of some sort in almost every outfit):

So now you have nine blogs to follow. Spend a few minutes every day to visit them, and you’re certain to find out about the latest and greatest steals, deals, and freebies! Most of these blogs update daily, if not more often.

Oh, and don’t forget to join and follow these six SL groups for even more news about freebies and deals:

  1. Fabulously Free in SL: their group is free to join; here is a list of the gifts you can pick up with that group tag active
  2. Maitreya Gifts, Sales & News: their group is free to join; follow their blog to find out what gifts you can get with this group
  3. Mesh Avatar Appearance Maniacs (MAAM): it costs L$50 to join the MAAM group; here is a list of freebies you can pick up with that group tag active
  4. SL Frees & Offers: their group is free to join; here’s their blog
  5. TeleportHub.com: it costs L$10 to join their group; here is a list of gifts you can get
  6. THIRD LIFE [Frees, Gifts & Hunts]: L$10 to join group; here is their blog

Do you know of a great freebie fashion blog that I have missed? Please leave me a comment if you do, with the name of the blog and the URL, thank you!

UPDATED! Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: The Peace on Earth Hunt

Every December, more than one hundred stores participate in one of Second Life’s longest-running and most popular hunts, the Peace on Earth hunt. The hunt runs from December 1st to 31st, and, as every year, there are wonderful free gifts to be had! I have selected six hunt prizes to show you.

First up is this truly glorious red Diversity ballgown by Ellnique (formerly know as Shoenique Designs):

This gown comes with the shawl. You should be aware that, if you wear all the flexiprims that come with this gown, it will send your Avatar Rendering Complexity soaring through the roof! But appearing as a jelly doll to everyone around you is sometimes the price you have to pay for fashion 😉

Next is another red ballgown by ML Fashion, called Evita, which includes the shoes and the fur scarf:

The Unicorn ballgown by PurpleMoon is perfect for your next holiday party!

POE 3 2 Dec 2018

The gift from Ghee is this lovely red ballgown with a subtle pattern:

The gift from Glitterati is a bit of a surprise for a winter hunt (maybe I found the wrong globe?): a flowery summer dress with a matching floppy sunhat!

More in line with the holiday spirit is this blue sweater dress with a jolly snowman, the hunt prize from Sweet E’s:

Here’s the complete list of hunt hints. Happy hunting!

UPDATE Dec. 3rd: I was sent a message from Fauve, who said:

The hunt dress from Glitterati features a Hellebore flower, aka “Christmas Rose”.

Thank you for letting me know, Fauve! 🙂

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: REIGN

Have you joined the RyanSchultz.com Discord yet? More details here. If you have a tip on finding Second Life freebies, come over and join us and share the good news!

One of Ryan’s eight rules for freebie hunting in Second Life is:

Watch for free group join periods!

Well, I got a great tip today from a blog I follow regularly, NessMarket.com, about another Second Life group that has temporarily dropped its group join fee.

The REIGN group is free to join, but only until Sunday! And you can pick up some really nice shoes and boots for your female avatar, 21 group gifts in total (not all are footwear; there’s also some coffee mugs).

And not just one measly pair of footwear each! We’re talking FATPACKS, with 20, 25, even 30 colours each!!! This is an incredible deal!

Take a look at only a few of the free group gifts from REIGN (I think that the boots in the second picture are especially nice):

(The last picture, the black pumps, comes with a HUD with just four options: black, and three different American stars-and-stripes patterns. It’s a former 4th of July group gift.)

So get down to REIGN and vacuum up those freebies! This SLURL will take you directly to the group gifts room. (The sim is very busy today, so you might have to use something like the Teleport Hammer to get in. Keep trying!)

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free Altamura Estephania Mesh Full-Body Avatar for Women in the SL Frees and Offers Hunt!

*Checks his watch*

Damn it! This is all Altamura’s fault!! I was all set to take a vacation from the blog and then she issued yet another fabulous, free mesh female avatar as a hunt prize in the First Annual SL Frees and Offers Hunt, which runs from the 3rd to the 25th of November. You are looking for a beautiful golden autumn leaf in the store that looks like this:

HUNT item for SL F&O HUNT.png

When you find it, click on it, select Deliver from the blue pop-up menu that appears, and you get your hunt prize: the Estephania female mesh full-body avatar (head and body together in one package)! Estephania has a lovely darker skin tone, as you can see from these pictures:

Altamura New 1 3 Nov 2018.png

Altamura New 2 3 Nov 2018.png

In what now appears to be a trend for the company, this is another one of the Altamura freebies which does not allow you to remove the head (in order to replace it with another mesh head). This is rather disappointing, but it’s such a beautiful head that you can hardly complain (see picture above)!

Estephania is a fully-adjustable Bento body which comes with a HUD which allows you a complete set of alpha selections to make just about any clothing fit well. I have found that clothing designed for the Maitreya Lara mesh avatar body tends to fit the Altamura female bodies very well, with a minimum of fuss (and more and more designers are now creating clothing specifically designed for Altamura mesh bodies).

Please note that, like all the other free mesh bodies Altamura has put out, this body is not Omega-compatible (you have to buy a full-price version to get that feature). You get the one skin tone with this body, which is actually quite lovely. There are simply not enough free/inexpensive options for darker-skinned avatars in Second Life, and Estephania is a welcome addition!

Also, the Altamura female mesh bodies have Slink-compatible feet, so any shoe designed for Slink feet should work well (the female mesh body gift comes in three foot heights, selectable via the HUD: flat, medium, and high). The bodies have Bento hands, and (in a nice added touch) Altamura has included a hand AO which cycles through natural hand positions, which you can use with your regular (non-Bento) AO. There’s also a facial AO.

This avatar is wearing:

Mesh Head and Body: Estephania full-body mesh avatar (free hunt prize from Altamura in the SL Frees & Offers Hunt).

Hair: free Pulled Back Bun (brown) from the Library / Accessories / Hair Design Options / Pulled Back Bun folder in your SL inventory. Free, adjustable, tintable, uncomplicated.

Eyes: brown Dream eyes by YS&YS (free gift from a previous Second Life shopping event; no longer available).

Dress: Faith gold metallic minidress by Justice (free group gift if you join the SL Frees & Offers group for free); the Maitreya Lara version of this dress fits the Altamura Jenny body well. The dress comes in three colours—gold, copper, and rose gold.

Shoes: gold Olivia heels (free gift from Ello); the Altamura Estephania body has Slink-compatible feet.

TOTAL COST FOR THIS AVATAR: FREE!

There are dozens of other wonderful hunt gifts available in the hunt, mostly for women but some for men also; here is a complete list of locations. Have fun!
