UPDATED: Playing Squid Game in Second Life (And How to Pick Up FREE Squid Game Outfits!)

It was perhaps inevitable that the hit Korean TV series Squid Game would inspire somebody to recreate the deadly games in Second Life as a form of roleplay. Teleport into the Squid Game world, and click on the large black cube at the entrance to receive a set of instructions on a notecard, and a special HUD to wear. The notecard by the creator reads in part:

Welcome to the SL Squid Games!

We started work on this on the 6th October 2021 and already we have had so much interest! Thanks to everyone for coming and checking us out and for all the very kind donations we’ve received so far already!

This all came about when I watched the whole Squid Game series and it just looked like so much fun to play! It was the talk of the town! Seemed as though no one had done an SL version yet, and I love building and scripting, so I got started. Within a day or 2 we already had many visitors showing up…All of the games except the tug of war (marketplace bought) were coded by myself.

Here’s a look at two of the game worlds. As you can see, they look very similar to the television series!

Near the entrance there are, of course, vendors from various stores selling Squid Game-themed outfits for roleplay purposes (never miss an opportunity to earn some coin, people!):

Even better, whether or not you choose to run the gauntlet of deadly childhood games, you can pick up some FREE Squid Game player and guard outfits at the current round of the MIIX monthly shopping event! The MIIX event always features a themed hunt of some kind, and this time around, the theme is Squid Game. So what are you waiting for? Here’s your taxi! (Plus some tips and tricks to help you with your hunt, learned through trial, tribulation, and experience.)

Below is the hunt key; you are looking for Squid Game cards with the circle, square, and triangle symbols printed on them, which can be hidden anywhere in and around the vendor booths or elsewhere in the space. As you can see, there are hunt prizes for both men and women, plus dolls and other accessories (the green player tracksuits come in both clean and dirty versions):

This is what the clean version of the green player’s tracksuit looks like (prizes 2 and 10):

And here is what the red guard outfit looks like (prizes 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7; the rifle comes with the Bento pose shown, and the mask comes in three versions: circle, square and triangle).

Note that the MIIX hunt ends November 20th, 2021, so don’t delay!

Note also that there are also regularly scheduled tournaments in the Second Life version of Squid Game (please teleport to the sim to get more information, and to join the group). Have fun!

P.S. If you haven’t watched Squid Game on Netflix yet, apparently it quickly became Netflix’s most watched show after it premiered in September! Here’s the trailer:

I must confess that I started, but haven’t yet finished, the series; it’s a bit too gory for my personal tastes. But it’s very well done, and if you’re into that sort of thing, it might be just up your alley!

UPDATE Nov. 16th, 2021: I wanted to add a few pictures showing you the men’s hunt prizes from the MIIX event. This is what the clean version of the green player’s tracksuit looks like (prizes 1 and 11):

Prizes 13, 14, and 15 are components of In-Ho (The Front Man) character’s black outfit: black pants, a plain black T-shirt, and a black hoodie worn over top (all of which you are men’s wardrobe staples which you can easily repurpose to use outside of Squid Game roleplay!), plus The Front Man’s black mask. Please click on each image in the gallery below to view it in a larger size. (Note that there were no black shoes included as prizes in the MIIX hunt, but you probably already have black shoes in your inventory!)

Remember that this hunt ends November 20th, so you only have four days to pick up these items for your male avatar. Happy freebie hunting!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free Christmas Outfits from the MIIX Shopping Event!

Did you know that you can help support my work on this blog? Here’s how.

If you are looking for some fun Christmas outfits, the December round of the monthly MIIX shopping event has you covered, for free! Every month, MIIX has a free hunt, where you look for an object hidden among all the vendor booths.

This time around, you are looking for well-hidden Christmas stockings! Here’s the hunt key, so you know what you are looking for:

The gifts consist of men’s and women’s apparel and footwear by FurtaCor, unisex resizable hats, and even a couple of pieces of home decor! The men’s outfit consists of a Christmas cardigan and tie (in blue or green) dress pants (in red or black), and a nice pair of black oxford shoes:

Here’s one of the women’s outfits you can assemble from the MIIX hunt prizes, which include the Santa hat with blinking Christmas lights, the red lace choker, and even Rudolph-the-red-nosed-reindeer earrings!

Here’s a second look in green, complete with a knitted elf hat!

If you need a little help finding the stockings at the MIIX hunt, you might want to refer to my Top Six Tips for Successful Hunts in Second Life. Even if you are an experienced hunter, you still might learn a handy trick or two!
