Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Elegant in Black

The only thing that the following three outfits have in common is that they are black, they are elegant, and they are free! Each is a free group gift, with a free group join.

First we have a lovely Lia black chemise with matching black pants, a free group gift from Clef de Peau. Perfect for the SL ladies who lunch! Simply join the Clef de Peau group for free, and click on the gift box on the ground at this SLURL:

The Lia outfit comes with a HUD to change the arm and leg cuffs to one of several different colours, including black (as I did with the pants this avatar is wearing in the picture above, to make them all one colour).

This is the beautiful Pelaides full-length ballgown; with materials enabled, it truly shimmers! Here I paired it with a white fur stole from Glitzz (one of their group gifts, the Glitzz group currently costs L$250 to join):

You can pick this up for free from the JR Wolf Creations store, just click the panel to join the group for free! The gown comes with a HUD with six different ombre tones, as shown, and let me tell you, it’s simply stunning (these still pictures simply do not do it justice!):

But I think I left the best for last! Here Vanity Fair models the sexy little black Kali dress, simple but elegant, perfectly paired with some chunky costume jewelry from JUMO (the Olivia earrings and necklace, a previous Advent gift):

(As an aside, the champagne glass with the Bento hand pose is my new favourite party prop! I bought it as part of the Celebration Champagne set, which includes two of these poses as well as champagne bottles and buckets, at Hive for only L$250. I just love it!)

The Kali dress is one of many free gifts you can pick up at the Apple Blossom & Seeds store, just click the black panel to join their group for free, and scoop up many lovely items of women’s clothing! Here’s the exact SLURL to find the group gifts wall, and the red arrow points to the Kali dress that Vanity Fair is wearing:

Happy freebie shopping!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: A Tale of Two Frank’s

A rather amusing situation has developed in the wake of Frank’s Entertainment Group closing down most of their Second Life venues: two dueling Frank’s Jazz Clubs have arisen!

Frank’s Jazz Club (The Upstart)

The new club, which is variously called Frank’s Jazz Club, the New Frank’s Place, the Sinatra Jazz Club, and the Frank S Jazz Club, depending on which sign you’re looking at and which landmark you pick up, is the new kid on the block, obviously hoping to lure Frank’s previous clientele. (I’m quite sure that Frank’s original owner, Nanceee Sinatra, is rather ticked off about this development, but there’s not much that she can do about it. I rather doubt she trademarked the name Frank’s.)

The music mix is much the same as Nancee’s original Frank’s, but I note that you can make song requests for the DJ to play using various signs placed around the venue, which is a suitably large and impressive space, tastefully decorated for Christmas.

And I do see many familiar faces from Frank’s here already! Which just goes to show that the concept was a good one. It was very smart of someone to step immediately into the void left when Frank’s closed.

Even better, there are gifts of free formalwear for both men and women at the entrance! What more could a freebie fashionista ask for?

Here my avatar is wearing the free black ballgown, which is quite lovely and has sizes to fit most classic system and mesh bodies (this is the version for Maitreya Lara, which fits this Altamura Juliet mesh body perfectly):

Frank’s Elite Jazz Club (The Original)

On the other hand, there is Frank’s Elite Jazz Club, which is under new ownership after the previous sim owner stepped in to save it when Frank’s Entertainment Group was going to shut it down. It is a members-only club with a rather steep membership fee of L$1,000 (I had joined when the group fee was only L$500), but they sometimes have events which are open to everybody.

I must confess that I do have a soft spot for this venue, which is beautifully decorated for the holiday season:

One of things I do like about Frank’s Elite Jazz Club is the variety of talented live performers. I also appreciate the fact that the exclusivity of the club tends to attract a higher class of clientele (I did get rather sick and tired of being hit on all the time at Frank’s original club; being a drop-dead gorgeous female avatar does have its disadvantages 😉 ).

Vanity Fair is wearing her standard go-to ballgown, the Au Revoir red silk gown by Snowpaws—simple, beautiful, effortlessly elegant.

To go with the ballgown, I am also wearing:

  • Antigone gold and ruby earrings (a long-ago free gift from Kouse’s Sanctum, a store which has now closed)
  • Gigi crimson pumps by Garbaggio (not shown; my favourite shoe store!)
  • And a gold wedding band by Su Xue (as a warning signal to keep the male pestering to a minimum 😉 ).

UPDATED! Doing Drag in Second Life: Part II

We’re all born naked, and the rest is drag.

—RuPaul, Born Naked

Last April, I wrote a blogpost about doing drag in Second Life, using a classic system (non-mesh) avatar:

Velcro Zipper, Second Life Drag Queen (System Avatar)
“The higher the hair, the closer to God.”

Today, I decided to challenge myself to see if I could create a drag queen look with the new Romeo group gift from Altamura. (By the way, today is the final day you can pick up the Romeo and Juliet full-body mesh avatars as group gifts at the Altamura mainstore! So, if you haven’t done so yet, hurry down to pick them up! They are a truly fabulous deal we will probably not see again for quite some time.)

One advantage of the Romeo full-body mesh avatar is that the lipstick, eyeliner, eyeshadow and nail polish can be applied directly from the included HUD! (How very metrosexual!) And the body is Omega compatible with the Altamura Omega relay installed, so despite the masculine shape, I could easily add Omega-applier ballgowns. Here’s what I was able to come up with in about 20 minutes:

MissDrag, Second Life Drag Queen (Mesh)
Hmm, I may have made MissDrag a little too tall. I may also need to adjust the body sliders a bit to get a shapelier figure…
Aah, yes, that’s much better. Shorter and curvier. Amazing what a little work with the body sliders can do, even with a male avatar!
The shoes under the ballgown!

This avatar is wearing:

  • Mesh head and body, including makeup: Altamura Romeo
  • Hair: FABIA Lilak mesh hair (free group gift, the FABIA group is free to join, but only between February 25th and March 15th, 2019)
  • Gown: black ballgown by UniQue (Omega appliers and flexiprim skirt; free from The Free Dove)
  • Stole and Jewelry: free group gifts from Glitzz at this SLURL; you must join the [G] Glitzz group for free to get these gifts)
  • Shoes with Feet: chained black sandal by YDEA (comes with a HUD to adjust the skin tone; free from The Free Dove). These are essential to replace the manly feet of the Romeo avatar! (You can hide the feet using the included HUD.)

TOTAL COST FOR THIS AVATAR: L$149 (L$50 to join the Altamura Design/Mesh Avatars group, and L$99 for the Altamura Omega system kit available at this SLURL).

Now, I’m going to take MissDrag over to Frank’s Jazz Club and see how long it takes before someone calls security 😉

UPDATE Feb. 28th: I spent another L$50 to join the Dotty’s Secret group and picked up all the free group gifts of drag makeup from the Dotty’s Secret group gifts wall (which include Omega appliers). Here’s another look, featuring the Miss Universe makeup set by Dotty’s Secret and yet another free ballgown from The Free Dove, this one by Graffitiwear:
