Second Life Steals, Deals and Freebies: A Newbie Avatar Makeover in Half an Hour, for Only Two Linden Dollars!

Every so often, for fun, I like to create a brand new avatar from scratch, then give myself exactly half an hour to try and see just how well I can give her a makeover. I try to transform her from a starter newbie to a look that is as stylish and non-newbie as possible, taking advantage of any gifts and offers for avatars under 30 days.

I refer to the Under 30 Days list of gifts and offers from the FabFree blog, and let me tell you, there are not nearly as many freebies for newbies as there were in the old days! It’s actually rather sad. Good thing there are all kinds of other steals and deals on the grid!

Today I took the starter Elizabeth avatar, as shown here:

Newbie Ellizabeth 16 May 2018

(*sigh* Those bulbous system avatar ankles…)

And I challenged myself to give her not just one, but two looks: one for daytime, and the other for evening.

Here is the day look (please click on the pictures to see them in a larger size):

My avatar is wearing:

Mesh Head and Mesh Eyes: Kenna mesh head from Genesis Lab (group gift; limited time free group join)

Mesh Body: eBody Classic avatar body (L$1 at the freebie store at Ajuda SL Brasil or directly from the eBody store; note that the dollarbie version of this mesh body has only “thick” alpha sections on the HUD, not the finer alpha sections on the full-price version, which means that you have to be somewhat careful what you wear on it)

Hair: Melek fitted mesh hair by Sentinus (free from the Free Dove)

Sweater: Turtleneck Sweater by Coco Designs (free group gift; group is free to join)

Jeans: black Margot jeans by EccentriciXi (free gift for avatars under 30 days; use the provided SLURL to locate the black cubes and click on them to get a very nice starter wardrobe for your avatar!)

Shoes: Classic black pumps by Marquesse (free at the freebie store at Ajuda SL Brasil; this shoe comes in four colours; note that the eBody Classic mesh avatar body has Slink-compatible feet)

AO Standing Pose: Female Basic Mocap AO by Vista Animations (L$1; located at the back of the female AO section of the store)

And here is my newbie avatar’s evening look. I took advantage of the free L$500 gift card offer from Kastle Rock Couture to outfit her (you can find the offer at this SLURL, you just click the box on the ground; this offer is only for newbies under 30 days old; please click on the pictures below to see them in a larger size):

My avatar is wearing the same mesh head, eyes, body and AO as before, with these additions…

Choker: Nina Choker by RxK (free from Ajuda SL Brasil; I tried to pick a skin tone for the eBody Classic mesh body to match the Genesis Kenna head as best I could, but there was still a slight seam visible, so the choker covers that)

Gown: pink Monarch strapless gown by Kastle Rock Couture (currently on sale for L$99 in the Kastle Rock Sale Room, which leaves me with another L$401 on the gift certificate to spend on more outfits!)

Shoes: Classic white pumps by Marquesse (free at the freebie store at Ajuda SL Brasil; this shoe comes in four colours; note that the eBody Classic mesh avatar body has Slink-compatible feet)

Hair: I decided to keep the Elizabeth starter avatar updo hairstyle (some things just cannot be improved upon!)

And there you have it! The total cost of both outfits was L$2—L$1 for the eBody mesh avatar body and another L$1 for the AO.

Second Life Steals, Deals and Freebies: Queen of Hearts Gown by Whymsical Marketplace

This absolutely gorgeous red, white and black silk Queen of Hearts gown, with a high starched gold-trimmed collar and gold and red embroidery, is a free gift from Whymsical Marketplace in the Alice in Wonderland hunt which is currently going on in Second Life. It’s a must-get item if you do historical roleplay in SL. Or perhaps, you simply want to go around screaming “Off with their heads!” at everybody. (Hey, it’s Second Life! You do what you want 😉 )

You are searching for a key with a White Rabbit’s head on it. The hunt hint is: “The Fairy holds the key to your gift”. (It’s very easy to find!)

Here’s what the gown looks like. Click on each picture to see it in a larger size:

My avatar is wearing:

Mesh Head: Lulu Bento mesh head by Akeruka (Over the past year, Akeruka has had four different dollarbie Bento mesh heads—two female, and two male—as group gifts for members of the [AK] Heads, News & Support group; the group join fee was L$150, so that works out to 38.5 Linden dollars per head, an amazing deal! So you might want to join this group, in case they decide to offer other dollarbie deals on Bento mesh heads.)

Mesh Body: eBody Classic avatar body (L$1 at the freebie store at Ajuda SL Brasil or directly from the eBody store; note that the dollarbie version of this mesh body has only “thick” alpha sections on the HUD, not the finer alpha sections on the full-price version)

Eyes: free hazel Look Into My eyes by Exodi (store is no longer in SL)

Gown: Queen of Hearts gown by Whymsical Marketplace (free hunt gift in the Alice in Wonderland Hunt)

Shoes (not seen): freebie flats in black from Garbaggio (free from the SL Marketplace for Slink feet; the eBody Classic mesh body has Slink-compatible feet)

Hair: free Pulled Back Bun (brown) from the Library / Accessories / Hair Design Options / Pulled Back Bun folder in your SL inventory

Crown: an old hunt gift from a store that is no longer in SL

Jewelry: the Secret of Jade ruby bracelet, earrings and necklace by J&W Jewelers (freebie at the Regency Ballroom; there is also a lovely free gown by Shoenique to pick up here as well):

TOTAL COST FOR THIS ENTIRE AVATAR: L$152 (L$150 group join fee for Akeruka, L$1 for the Akeruka Lulu mesh head, L$1 for the eBody Classic mesh body)

Off with her head!

UPDATED! Second Life Steals, Deals and Freebies: How to Get 218 Outfits, Shoes, and Jewelry for Only L$100!

UPDATE: Because of interest in this blogpost, I have done an updated version: get SEVEN HUNDRED AND EIGHT-NINE items for only L$101! (Yes, it’s true!)

Did you know that you can get two hundred and eighteen women’s outfits, shoes, and jewelry for your female avatar, and spend only L$100? Yes, it’s true! Today I will show you how it’s done.

First, go to the Shoenique store, join their group for free (it’s called Shoenique Designs), then go past the entrance into the middle of the store, where you will find this group gift wall with 29 gifts:

Shoenique Designs 14 May 2018.png

Then go over to the Legendaire store. At the main entrance, turn left and go into the door marked Group Gifts/Outlet. There you will find 64 outfits and shoes, all free group gifts when you join the free Legendaire V.I.P. group (there’s a group join sign right at the entrance). Another four of the gifts are located just inside the main entrance of the Legendaire store. (Note: make sure you join the new Legendaire V.I.P. group, not the old Legendaire group.)

Legendaire 14 May 2018.png

Finally, hop on over to Scandalize, and join their group for L$100. Then walk around the wall behind the customer service desk out front, and behold no less than 75 free group gifts! That works out to 1.3 Linden dollars per outfit! It’s the best deal in women’s SL clothing outside of the freebie stores, in my opinion.

Scandalize 14 May 2018.png

Then turn around and pick up some nice free jewelry on the counter opposite the group gift wall. There are another eleven gifts here (note that two of the vendors are not working):

Now I am going to show you three of the dresses I picked up. First, here’s an example of one particularly lovely group gift dress from Shoenique Designs:

Shoenique Dress 3 14 May 2018

Shoenique Dress 2 14 May 2018

This avatar is wearing:

Mesh Head and Lipstick: Giselle Bento head by Altamura (this was an Altamura gift from last Christmas at the eBENTO event, you had to join the Altamura group for L$50 to get it)

Mesh Body: Jenny Bento body by Altamura (this was a gift last Christmas from the Women Only Hunt)

Hair: Aria by D!va (free group gift; group is free to join; the roses are included and are colour-changeable, or can be turned off)

Eyes: Cerulean Spice eyes by Ina Centaur (hunt gift; this store is no longer in SL)

Dress: February Group Gift 1 Dress (Maitreya version) by Shoenique Designs (free group gift; group is free to join; I have found that most clothing designed for the Maitreya Lara mesh body tends to fit the Altamura mesh avatar body very well)

Shoes: Classic white pumps by Marquesse (free at the excellent freebie store at Ajuda SL Brasil; this shoe comes in four colours; note that the Altamura mesh avatar body has Slink-compatible feet)

TOTAL COST FOR THIS ENTIRE AVATAR: L$50 (group join fee for Altamura)

UPDATE May 15th: A commenter on the Secondlife group on Facebook commented that the Coco Designs store also has a free group which you can join, and they have 35 outfits and shoes available as free group gifts! So that makes a grand total of 218 freebies for only L$100!

The Iracebeth of Crims Gown from Silvan Moon Designs at the Alice in Wonderland Event in Second Life, May 12th to 31st

The newest round of the Enchantment shopping event is here, with an Alice in Wonderland theme this time around. Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai, the owners of Silvan Moon Designs (SL StoreSL MarketplaceFlickr) have designed a truly glorious Queen of Hearts gown that will have you done up in royal style! You can wear it with or without the matching jacket. The texture work, as you can see, is stunning!

Of course, such a sumptuous gown deserves some gloriously over-the-top hair, so I paired the gown with the Yvette hairstyle from Tukinowaguma (TKW). Up and high and off the collar! You can purchase the entire fatpack, in dozens of shades, including a HUD to change the colours of the flowers, for only L$250.

This dress comes in the six colours as shown in the picture below. Each colour is L$450, or you can buy the entire fatpack for only L$2400.

Here’s a SLURL that will take you directly to the Silvan Moon booth at the Alice in Wonderland event, which runs from May 12th to the 31st. Hurry, don’t be late!

31 Days of Vanity Fair: A Look Back at Sansar Fashions Since Dec. 18th

Tonight I wanted to show you all of the saved outfits of my “Sansar supermodel” Vanity Fair—all 31 of them! This is like a history lesson in Sansar costuming, and these are some of my favourite costumes since the official launch of the fashion market in Sansar on December 18th, 2017. (Click on each of the images to see it in a larger size.)

Second Life Fashion Portfolio: Six Gowns from Silvan Moon Designs by Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai

I wanted to show off all the beautiful gowns I recently bought from Silvan Moon Designs (SL StoreSL MarketplaceFlickr), both the special designs available at their booth on the Aetherea sim of the current Fantasy Faire, and at their regular store on the Emerald sim! Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai, the owners of Silvan Moon Designs, do such outstanding work that I wanted everybody to see them!

Here’s a couple of pictures of Vanity Fair in the wonderful Le Carnivale Baroque gown in blush I bought at Aetherea (please click on each picture to see a larger version):

And here’s Vanity Fair in the Relay for Life special I also bought at Aetherea, called the Lady of Shalot in sapphire blue:

Here my medieval roleplay avatar, Scarborough Fair, is wearing the lovely Lady Ariana gown in white (click each picture for a larger size):

And here is the beautiful Daphne of Mistborn gown in green, which comes with a matching vest:

And in this picture, Scarborough is wearing the Light of Sarin gown set with matching hat, in slate blue:

I’d like to thank Solas NaGeala for so generously giving me the Linden dollars to purchase these six exquisitely made gowns. As you can see, I spent the money well!
