UPDATED! Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: The Top 21 Second Life Store Groups to Join and Stay a Member of, for the Best Free Group Gifts and Bargains!

PLEASE NOTE: My blog is still on indefinite hiatus; I have made a single exception for this blogpost. After this, I will be going back on my self-imposed break from blogging.

Have you joined the RyanSchultz.com Steals, Deals & Freebies group yet? I will be posting EVEN MORE news and tips on finding fabulous freebies and bargains in Second Life than I now post here on the blog! More information on this brand new SL group here.

Join the Scandalize store group for only L$20, and it will likely be the best twenty Linden dollars you have ever spent!

Today’s blogpost is in response to the often-asked question: What are the best Second Life store groups to join and stay a member of?

But before I answer that burning question, there are six freebie groups (i.e. they are not store groups) which you should already be following (source):

  1. Fabulously Free in SL: their group is free to join; here is a list of the gifts you can pick up with that group tag active
  2. Maitreya Gifts, Sales & News: their group is free to join; follow their blog to find out what gifts you can get with this group
  3. Mesh Avatar Appearance Maniacs (MAAM): it costs L$50 to join the MAAM group; here is a list of freebies you can pick up with that group tag active
  4. SL Frees & Offers: theirgroup is free to join; here’s their list of group gifts
  5. TeleportHub.com: it costs L$10 to join their group; here is a list of gifts you can get
  6. THIRD LIFE [Frees, Gifts & Hunts]: their group is free to join, although they have charged in the past; here is their blog

Now, on to the list of Second Life store groups which I do recommend you join, in rank order (with the most generous groups listed first). So, if you are short of group space, you can just work you way down the list until you run out of available group slots! As I mention below, some of these groups are free, so you could leave them after picking up all the steals, deals, and freebies!

I also strongly recommend that you always keep at least one free group slot available, so if you do have to join a group unexpectedly, you are prepared!

There are, of course, countless other freebie groups which you can join for free, just to pick up a free outfit, then leave immediately afterwards (e.g. Mesh Body Friends). Usually, there will be a sign in the store which you can click on, that will give you a link in local chat to join the group, next to a picture of the free item. (Remember to press Ctrl+H to pull up the local chat window so you can click on the link.)

Without further do, here is the list. Please note that I have given the EXACT spelling of the store group names below is given in bold at the start of each entry on this list, so if you are having trouble finding it, you might want to cut and paste that name into the Search box under Groups.

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Pick Up 106 Free Outfit Fatpacks and 147 Free Group Gifts of Women’s Apparel and Footwear at Scandalize for Only L$20!

I don’t know if you have heard the news yet, but Scandalize (which already has a stellar reputation as by far the most generous store in Second Life when it comes to group gifts) has dropped the price to join the Scandalize store group from L$100 to only L$20. I don’t know if this discount is temporary or permanent, so I would very strongly encourage you to take advantage and subscribe to the Scandalize group NOW!

Between the older Scandalize store group (which, as I said, now costs only L$20 to join) and the newer Scandals SL Frees & News group (which is still free to join), you can now pick up a truly staggering haul of women’s clothing and footwear, including a staggering ONE HUNDRED AND SIX full outfit fatpacks. Yes, not outfits in a single colour, but actual fatpacks, with HUDs giving you dozens of colours and patterns, and oodles of styling options! An embarrassment of riches for female avatars.

Read on and learn! First, if you have not already done so (and many female avatars already have), join the Scandalize group and visit their main store, where you can pick up the following gifts from their group gift wall, 147 in total as of this writing!

There are four outfit fatpacks located in the Scandalize store as follows:

  • one if you join the SL Frees & Offers group for free (see image above);
  • one if you click on the Stay at Home vendor panel (see image above);
  • a lingerie fatpack located near the front entrance and the lucky boards, which requires you join the Scandalize store group for L$20;
  • and an outfit fatpack if you join the free Scandals SL Frees & News group, also located near the front entrance.

Don’t forget to walk around to the wall directly behind the front counter at the store, where you can pick up 20 womenswear fatpacks with your Scandalize group tag active:

Here’s a look at just one of the group gift fatpacks, the glorious Azahara ballgown!

Don’t forget that Scandalize also has a full wall of lucky boards located near the back of the store (you do need to be a member of the Scandalize group to slap these boards when your initial comes up). They are extremely popular, so the letters tend to turn over quickly! You won’t have to wait more than 5 to 10 minutes to pick up even more free outfits!

Here’s just a couple of examples of the free outfits you can win from the Scandalize lucky boards, which usually come in sizes to fit Maitreya, Belleza, Slink, and Legacy mesh bodies:

Scandalize Sanara outfit in pale pink
Scandalize Zarihas outfit: a grey top with optional sleeves, with a denim skirt

But wait, there’s more! Located just across from the Scandalize store, on the same sim, is the Scandalize Outlet store, where (if you join the Scandals SL Frees & News group) you can vacuum up no less than EIGHTY TWO full womenswear fatpacks!

Here’s an older blogpost from last summer with pictures of a just a few of the outfits you can pick up for zero Lindens! Read, mark, and inwardly digest the freebie fabulousness!!!

So, here’s a summary of all the womenswear fatpacks you can pick up at one stop:

  • 82 from the Scandals Outlet store (requires the Scandals SL Frees & News group);
  • 20 from the wall behind the front counter at the Scandalize store (which requires a membership in Scandalize group);
  • 4 more fatpacks scattered around the Scandalize store (for 4 different groups)

That makes 106 womenswear fatpacks (plus 147 group gifts of women’s apparel and footwear) for only TWENTY LINDEN DOLLARS in total outlay! You don’t need to spend another Linden!

Two hundred and fifty-three gifts divided by L$20 works out to only L$0.08 PER GIFT, a truly mind-boggling bargain the likes of which you will not encounter anywhere else on the grid!

So drop whatever you’re doing, join the Scandalize group for L$20 if you haven’t already done so, and pick up some serious bargains!

UPDATED! Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Bargains and Freebies for Female Avatars to Celebrate International Women’s Day

Have you joined the RyanSchultz.com Steals, Deals & Freebies group yet? I will be posting EVEN MORE news and tips on finding fabulous freebies and bargains in Second Life than I now post here on the blog! More information on this brand new SL group here.

Image source: the IWD website

International Women’s Day (Monday, March 8th, 2021) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. I did a bit of hunting around, but I could not find any information on what events are taking place within Second Life to mark the occasion, as Inara Pey reported on the festivities held last year (if you do know what’s going on, please let me know!).

However, I do know that, to mark International Women’s Day, a couple of well-known Second Life stores are offering special gifts.

First up is Belle Epoque, where if you join their store group for only L$10, you can pick up this spectacular long gown (sized for Maitreya Lara mesh bodies):

There are five other group gifts you can snap up at the same time, as well as group gifts for several well-known freebie groups, so it’s well worth your time to drop by.

Here’s a pro tip on how to wear a ballgown with such a voluminous skirt: use an animation override (AO) which does not move your legs around a lot. There’s a perfect, FREE one on the SL Marketplace, called Chubby Girl AO by an animations store called [ImpEle] that has long since left the grid. Don’t let the name put you off; it actually has arm poses that put a bit of room between your arms and torso, and many simple, non-convoluted stands—just perfect for this ballgown! Simply add a hands-only AO for your Bento hands (don’t pay for one; you can get one for free from any of the freebie Altamura bodies at the various freebie stores in Second Life, see here for a list of where to find them), and you’re all set!

To celebrate International Women’s Day, AMUI is offering a free L$250 gift card good for anything in the store if you join their group for L$25, which I think is a good deal! There are also a couple of group gifts you can pick up at the same time, including an attractive IWD-themed top; just pay each vendor L$1 and your Linden dollar will be automatically refunded.

Here’s a close-up view of the vendor panel for the International Women’s Day top gift from AMUI, which comes in no less than seventeen different sizes! No matter what brand of mesh avatar body you are rocking, you should be able to find a size that fits you!

Happy International Women’s Day! If I hear of other freebies or bargains, or of any in-world IWD celebrations, I will update this blogpost. If you do know of something that I haven’t mentioned here (either a deal or an event), please leave a comment, thank you!

UPDATE 6:13 p.m.: Scandalize has announced a one-day, 50%-off sale of everything in the store, plus a new group gift of a fatpack of the sexy Ayseha lingerie set. Thanks to moonbubble for finding this!

UPDATE 8:18 p.m.: Ivy Qissentell (I just love that avatar name!) has told me about a couplr of dollarbie items for International Women’s Day that I wanted to share with you.

Loco Como Tu Madre is selling a pink women’s top with a design of women from various countries and walks of life for only L$1, and KAZZA is selling this beautifully detailed floral bouquet for one Linden dollar:

This lovely, resizable pink-and-white bouquet comes with a hold pose, and it has no copy/modify/transfer permissions, so you can buy it and give it to the special woman in your life!

Thank you for your tips, Ivy!

UPDATE March 8th, 2021: Hilly Haalan, a store which has always been among the most generous on the Second Life grid for its large number of free group gifts, has a brand new gift out for International Women’s Day, this complete outfit, which includes the shoes and handbag!

Simply join the Hilly Haalan group for free and click the panel. While you’re here, be sure to visit their Freebie store nearby, to vacuum up literally dozens and dozens of group gifts!

The Hilly Haalan freebie store

And here’s one final free gift for International Women’s Day from 7 Deadly S[k]ins, which you can pick up from the front counter of the in-world store (no group needed):

This Monroe skin comes in the pineapple skin tone, is compatible with Genus Bento heads, and comes in both system/Bakes on Mesh and an Omega applier version. Pick it up quickly, before the end of March 8th!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: How to Get 101 Womenswear Fatpacks for Only L$100!

I invite you to join the RyanSchultz.com Discord server, the world’s first cross-worlds discussion forum! Over 460 people from around the world, representing many different social VR platforms and virtual worlds (including Second Life), meet daily to chat, discuss, debate, and argue about the ever-evolving metaverse, and the companies building it.

A “fatpack” is a commonly-used term in Second Life, used to refer to a package of every single available colour and pattern of a particular outfit. SL stores often offer fatpacks to their shoppers as a cheaper alternative to buying every single colour of an item of apparel, footwear, or a hairstyle separately.

Well, Scandalize (which has always been among the most generous stores on the grid when it comes to group gifts) is now offering twenty fatpacks of female outfits! Just walk behind the front desk, and they are on the back of the wall behind the desk, opposite a large Christmas tree.

Christmas came early, folks! You do have to join the Scandalize group for L$100 to pick up these group gifts, but most people already have a membership in that group to pick up past freebies from their vast and wonderful gift wall, and to smack their Lucky Boards when their initial comes up. If not, then L$100 is a pittance—it works out to only five Linden dollars per fatpack!

Among these gifts, I was absolutely delighted to discover a fatpack of a gown which I had previously purchased in a couple of different shades for Vanity Fair, the elegant Azahara ballgown! It’s one of my favourite ballgowns, perfect for seasonal festivities! Here I have paired it with a free gift from the 12 Days of Christmas calendar at JUMO, the Gala Rachel golden tiara and matching costume-jewelry earrings:

This gown comes with an optional belt with a large bow at the back, plus a long fur stole for that extra touch of luxury! The fatpack includes a HUD to change the colours of the gown, bow, and stole separately.

By the way, if you haven’t done so yet, I would very strongly encourage you to join the free Scandals SL Frees & News group (a separate group from the main ‘[SCANDALIZE]’ group), and scoop up all the free womenswear from the nearby Scandalize Outlet store (more information here and here).

Adding the 81 free womenswear fatpacks from the Scandalize outlet store to the 20 fatpacks Scandalize is now giving you as Christmas gifts, that is a staggering 101 outfit fatpacks, for a total outlay of L$100—one Linden dollar per fatpack! Seriously the best deal on the grid!

Vanity Fair is wearing:

  • Gown: Azahara ballgown by Scandalize (one of the 20 outfits now available as a free group gift; the Scandalize group costs L$100 to join)
  • Shoes (not shown): Heidi pumps by Garbaggio
  • Crown and earrings: Gala Rachel set from JUMO (a free gift from this year’s 12 Days of Christmas calendar)
  • Champagne glass: by Hive, which includes the Bento hold pose (more information here)
  • Cigarette holder: by Kunst, which comes complete with Bento hand and face animations (further details here)

She is also wearing:
