And I want to follow up on yesterday’s question with another one: In your opinion, what have been the biggest successes in the 15-year history of Second Life? Things that we should celebrate, that were accomplished either by Linden Lab or by the users?

As before, I am going to post this question to both the official Second Life forums and SLUniverse.com. You can respond on either forum, or leave a comment on this blogpost. Thank you for contributing to a lively discussion!

  1. Involvement of the users and not LL. Generally its been if only LL would get out of the way. I’ve been a resident of SL for thirteen years and that is a recurring theme.

  2. Convincing the customer base to take on a large share of the documentation, promotion, marketing, reselling, education, and documentation roles that most other for-profit privately-held companies have to hire people to perform. A reduced cost quasi-private neighborhood here, a Linden bear there… this exploitation results in lower headcount, salary, and benefits costs. A business model that many attention-economy platforms replicate now.
