Halloween Creepy Crawl in Second Life: Some Pictures

Halloween is probably the biggest holiday in Second Life! Here are a few snapshots taken during the Halloween Creepy Crawl (I was dressed as gothic horror Carmen Miranda, shaking my skull maracas!):

I saw some really stunning costumes! And it was so much fun, a reminder of the community spirit that makes Second Life such a vibrant virtual world. Happy Halloween!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Golden Medusa!

In Greek mythology, Medusa (meaning “guardian” or “protectress”) was a monster, a Gorgon, generally described as a winged human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair. Those who gazed upon her face would be turned to stone (Source: Wikipedia).

For my final Halloween costume of the season, I decided to build an outfit around the Medusa hairstyle available on the SL Marketplace from EMO-tions for only L$5. The hair comes in a fatpack of colours, and even includes a matching snake for your upper right arm!

The gold dress is actually a Halloween gift from last year from Baiastice, called Absinthe (unfortunately, I checked and it is no longer available). And the four gold-and-diamond snakes adorning this metallic dress were from a long-ago gift outfit from Baiastice (way, waaay back in the system-layers-and-prims clothing era!), called Ancestral Snake! (I repurposed one of the leg snakes to make a second forearm snake.)

With such a fancy detailed outfit and hair, I wanted to keep the footwear simple. The gold/beige boots are perfect! They’re a current free gift from Hilly Haalan, available at the spawn point (the group is free to join). The Angie boots come with a HUD with fifteen different colours to choose from, to match any outfit:

The mesh head is Cleo, a recent group gift from Akeruka. (The mesh eyes are included, and even have the red option you see here! There’s also an option to replace the default human teeth with fangs, although you can’t really see them in these pictures.) The mesh body is Juliet, a recent group gift from Altamura. I do recommend that you join both groups (L$50 for Altamura, and L$150 for Akeruka), and keep your eyes peeled for any future announcements of group gifts! The Cleo head package came with matching Omega skin appliers for use on any Omega-compatible mesh body, such as the Altamura Juliet.

TOTAL COST FOR THIS AVATAR: Only L$304! (L$150 to join the Akeruka group; L$50 to join the Altamura group; L$99 for the Omega system kit for the Altamura body; and L$5 for the Medusa hair by EMO-tions)

Pictures were taken at the Mythia Island of the Gods roleplay sim.

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Arcane Spellcaster

The Second Life womenswear store Arcane Spellcaster has moved to a brand new sim, and to celebrate, their group is free to join this week, and you can pick up a free L$500 gift card to use on any items from their store!

Just teleport here, click on the group join sign to the right, and then click on the big gift card sign to the left:

Once you have received the gift card, you must wear it in order to use it. It will appear in a corner of your SL viewer. Then go over to the Arcane Spellcaster store (at the other end of the sim), and click on a vendor in their store. Select the Buy button, then select Gift Card. You will see a small picture of the item appear on the gift card, with a Buy Now button. Click on it, and the item will be delivered to your inventory!

Arcane Spellcaster is perhaps best known for its large collection of “Bento-enabled” dresses (which have skirts that look like they are moving in a breeze, taking advantage of some extra hind limb bones in the Bento extensions to the base SL avatar). Just look for the big Bento room at the back of the store, where you can find all those items:

There’s also a room off to the left as you enter, with a couple of free group gifts and a couple of lucky chairs:

Head upstairs and you’ll find some real bargains, such as this Zaida mesh minidress, which comes with optional flexiprim attachments to turn it into a full-skirted ballgown. It comes in blue, black, and pink, for only L$175 each:

With your L$500 gift card, you can pick up two colours for free!

Arcane Spellcaster tends to have original mesh designs which I haven’t seen anywhere else on the grid, such as this stylish belted Delia top, which comes with a HUD to change the colour of the shirt to 20 different shades, and the belt to 10 different colours, all for just L$275:

According to the group notices for the Arcane Spellcaster group, the free group join and free gift card are only for one week, so hurry down!
