Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: A Custom Steampunk Look for Only Seven Linden Dollars!

Have you joined the RyanSchultz.com Steals, Deals & Freebies group yet? I will be posting EVEN MORE news and tips on finding fabulous freebies and bargains in Second Life than I post here on the blog! More information on this brand new SL group here.

Bray’s Place Blues Club and social community is celebrating its third anniversary on February 21st, 2021, and the theme is steampunk, that is, a genre of science fiction that has a historical setting and typically features steam-powered machinery rather than advanced technology.

Steampunk clothing features a style of design and fashion that combines historical elements with anachronistic technological features inspired by science fiction. So yesterday evening, I began to rummage through Vanity Fair’s overflowing inventory of over 236,000 items collected over 13 years, to find something suitable to wear to this event!

Most of the steampunk outfits I had were of the old system-layers-and-flexiprims variety, but I wanted a more modern, mesh outfit. I was so pleased with what I came up with (and how I did it so inexpensively), that I wanted to share my results with you!

Vanity Fair is wearing:

  • Hat, Hair, and Monocle: Mono by EMO-tions (I picked this up for free from their group gifts area sometime last year or the year before, I believe, and while I could not find this gift again at their new store location, I was able to find it on the SL Marketplace for only L$5 for a complete fatpack of colours; there are options for you to wear just the hair, just the hat, or just the wonderful steampunk monocle, the hair with the hat only, or the hair with the monocle only.)
  • Steampunk Necklace: I picked this up as a freebie years ago from a store called Newtique, but I’m afraid it’s no longer available! Any steampunk necklace should work well with this outfit, I think.
  • Peplum Jacket: Now, this part gets somewhat complicated, so please pay attention! This jacket is based on the steampunk peplum jacket by Meli Imako; this is the full-perms version (L$150 on the SL Marketplace), which you can texture and colour it as you please! You can also pick up one of 41 different full-perms textures for this jacket for only L$1 each from Amazing Creations on the SL Marketplace. Please note that in the original version of this blogpost, I had mistakenly assumed that the Amazing Creations Marketplace listings were for the complete jacket, and not just the textures! So be careful to check what you are buying. To add even more to the confusion, at the Amazing Creations discount sales wall you can buy outfits containing various pre-textured versions of this peplum jacket for only L$2 each, if you join the Amazing Creations group for free. So I suggest that you buy the Meli Imako jacket only if you really want to customize it; otherwise, head to the discount wall at the Amazing Creations store in Second Life (here’s the exact SLURL; please save the SLURL to your inventory, then right click on it, select Show on Map, and just follow the red arrow to find it). Got all that? Whew! Nobody said being a freebie fashionista was always going to be easy!
  • Long Skirt: This delightful boho skirt, with a triangular floral inset at the bottom hem, is a free group gift from a tiny, obscure little store called all…About on the Second Life grid (here’s the SLURL, just click the Join Group sign to join the group for free, then click on the gift panel as shown in the picture below.)

MY TOTAL COST FOR THIS ENTIRE STEAMPUNK LOOK: Only 7 Linden dollars! (If you choose the Meli Imako full-perms version of the jacket, the cost goes up to a still-reasonable L$155.) So, as you can see, you don’t need to break the bank to get a polished steampunk look, suitable for wandering around the Caledon or New Babbage sims!

If green is not your colour, there are eight other versions of this long skirt for sale for only L$90 each in the all…About store (and, at the time of this writing, the brown skirt is on a Super Sales Weekend promotion for only L$50!).

Please don’t forget to come to the steampunk-themed 3rd birthday party at Bray’s Place on Sunday, February 21st, 2021, with a wide variety of deejays and live musical performers happening all day between noon and midnight Second Life Time/Pacific Time. In 14 years of traversing the grid, I have rarely come across as warm and welcoming a community as I have at Bray’s Place! And you’re cordially invited to join us as we celebrate three years of great music and amazing community! If you don’t have a suitable steampunk outfit, please do come anyway, but please note that there is a “clean and classy” dress code in place. Bray’s is also LGBTQ and furry friendly!

We’d love to have you join us. Mark your calendars!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: The Menstuff Hunt

It can sometimes be difficult to find free and inexpensive clothing for male avatars in Second Life, given the overwhelming number of stores, shopping events, and hunts that cater to female avatars, and have mostly women’s apparel, footwear, and accessories as gifts or prizes.

Today, we take a look at a hunt devoted exclusively to men’s fashion, the Menstuff Hunt. You are looking for a blue T-shirt, and each hunt prize is either free or L$1. You do not need to join any group to participate in this hunt.

Because I personally hate doing hunts without knowing what the prize looks like, I am including some pictures of the items that I have found. Here’s the list of participating stores and hunt hints from the Menstuff website. Good luck!

The ‘stuff Groups Shopping Plaza

At the starting point of the hunt, a fountain in the ‘stuff Groups Shopping Plaza, you can pick up this free, casual Dalmatian Dashiki tunic, which comes in standard sizes and a variety of fits for various male mesh bodies:

Hawker’s House

The free hunt prize from Hawker’s House consists of blue sandals, bell-bottom jeans, and an ombre tank top as shown. The tank had both tucked and untucked versions, and all the clothing prizes come in standard sizes as well as sixes to fit a wide variety of male mesh bodies.

UnderDogs

The free haul from UnderDogs Clothing is ten different items, a entire mini-wardrobe! Here I am showing you the BadBoy jeans (which come in three colours) and Saso’s Aviator Jacket, which you can wear with or without the shirt:

And here are the Corbin shorts and the Insane T-shirt from UnderDogs, both of which come in fifteen different colours and patterns each!

Please note that all the UnderDog clothing prizes come in standard sizes only (but you should still be able to make them fit most male mesh bodies using the alpha sections on your HUD).

Munereia

The free Menstuff Hunt gift from Munereia is the Mio outfit, consisting of the shirt, pants, and suspenders (the HUD allows you to change to the colours to a variety of lighter tones for the shirt, and a variety of blue tones for the pants; you can also pick a couple of colours for the suspenders, or turn off the suspenders and the shirt separately as you wish):

If you like this style, be sure to pick up the free Stay at Home gift for men in the Munereia store; the Stahd outfit is the same shirt, pants, and suspenders outfit, but in brighter, jewel tones for the shirt and a wider variety of darker colours for the pants!

Amazing Creations

For your L$1, one of Amazing Creations two gifts in the Menstuff Hunt is this men’s wardrobe staple, a men’s white dress shirt which comes with a HUD to all you to tint it any colour you desire:

The shirt comes in tucked and untucked version, and each version can be either a tighter or a looser fit, for four different versions overall. There are sizes to fit EMACHINA Davide, Signature Geralt and Gianni, Belleza Jake, David, and Slink male mesh bodies. Here is what the tucked version of the shirt looks like:

There’s also a free men’s Winter Coat which comes in 19 different fabric textures and a HUD to tint it any colour you want.

Design 9 Men’s Clothiers

There are a trio of free hunt prizes as your reward for diligent hunting for this hard-to-find Menstuff T-shirt: the Gabe tank top, the Gabe boxers shorts, and the Kaleb brown leather sandals! All come in either Belleza Jake or Signature Gianni sizes.

boyberry

The free hunt gift from boyberry is this fun, colourful summer shirt in sizes to fit Aesthetic, Belleza, Signature, and Slink mesh bodies:

Swank

From Swank, the L$1 gift is this Madras Collection set called Montego bay, consisting of this T-shirt and shorts. Again, this gift comes in standard sizes, plus sizes to fit most popular male mesh bodies.

OneKingdom

The L$1 hunt prize from OneKingdom is this pair of formal pants, which come in sizes to fit most male mesh bodies (including Adam, Altamura, Belleza, EXMACHINA, Signature and Slink), and a HUD to apply any of 30 different textures:

D2T Designs

The dollarbie hunt prize from D2T Designs are these good-looking illustrated blue jeans, which come with a leather belt as shown. They come in standard sizes, plus sizes to fit Adam, Aesthatic, Belleza, Classic/TMP, Signature and Slink male mesh bodies.

There’s a much more complete list of the Menstuff Hunt prize pictures, compiled by the Second Life – FREE group (a group on Vkontakte, the Russian version of Facebook), which you can find here. (I always find it good to know exactly what I am hunting for, before I go through all the trouble of finding it!)

The Menstuff hunt runs until June 30th, 2020. Happy hunting!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Just One of the Guys

I don’t blog about Second Life freebies for men as often as I do for the women, but there are a couple of nice freebies I wanted to mention today.

Amazing Creations has monthly free group gifts for both men and women (the store group is free to join), and this month’s men’s gift is this casual outfit, which includes the boots (here’s the exact SLURL to find the gift panel in the Amazing Creations store):

The best part of this outfit is that it is all in one piece: the shirt, jeans, and boots are all one werable mesh object. Just alpha out your body and your feet and you’re all set!

Another freebie is available without a group join at the Peak Lounge event taking place in Second Life this weekend. There are three free group gifts, and one of them is a set of beer props (see red arrow):

The set comes with a wearable sixpack of beer for one hand and a beer bottle for the other, both with Bento hand poses:

There’s also a rezzable sixpack for decoration purposes. Out guy is all set for his next party!

I’m not sure how long the Peak Lounge freebies will be available, so if you’re interested, head down there this weekend! Here’s the SLURL.

This avatar is also wearing:

  • Mesh Body and Head: Romeo by Altamura (a free group gift from last Valentine’s Day; no longer available for free)
  • Hair: Anderson by Alli&Ali Designs (which I picked up for free at an in-world conference last year)
  • Animation Override: Daily sLIFE Free Bento Male AO (free gift from Tuty)

TOTAL COST OF THIS ENTIRE AVATAR LOOK: FREE!
