Outfit Outlay: Free Medieval and Gothic Clothing by Solas

As Sansar’s first (and so far, only) fashion blogger, I have made it my mission to tell you all about the best fashions available in Sansar for your avatar.

Solas NaGealai, who is a well-known fashion designer in Second Life as the owner of BlueMoon Enterprise (SL storeblog) and the co-owner of Silvan Moon Designs (SL StoreSL MarketplaceFlickr), is one of my favourite avatar clothing designers. She puts a lot of time, energy, and talent into her clothing designs, and I wanted to showcase a few items that she is generously giving away for free from her store (her Sansar brand is called Lune Bleue).

First up is the beautifully detailed Lady Juliana Medieval Gown, which Vanity Fair is wearing at Nya Alchemi’s medieval tournament experience, S.L.A.R.P.:

And, on the other end of the spectrum, we have Solas’ striped goth top and matching layer skirt, to which I have added black wristbands by C3rb3rus (free!) and black Eden Bailarina flats by Kokoia (for sale for S$150, which works out to about US$1.50/CDN$1.89; click on each of the pictures below to see it in a larger size):

Then, I have switched it up a bit by taking off the wristbands and adding black sunglasses by Snow (also free!) and a goth nose chain by Agustine (S$65, or about 65 cents U.S./82 cents Canadian):

Be sure to pick up your freebies on the Sansar Store. Whether you are a medieval troubadour or a gothic rocker, Solas has got you covered!

Pick of the Day: La Planète à Roulettes (Plus a Free Women’s Outfit)

Today I am combining a Pick of the Day post (a look at a new Sansar experience) with an Outfit Outlay post (a look at a new free women’s outfit). Killing two birds with one stone! I might do this more often from now on.

La Planète à Roulettes (French for “The Wheeled Planet”) is a brand-new Sansar experience by EricNum. It’s a small castle perched on a giant golden ball, set in the middle of a calm sea, with the sound of seagulls off in the distance. It’s very peaceful.

The castle is decorated with many pictures of futuristic scenarios for space exploration.

A welcome video directs you to a companion website, Planete-A-Roulettes.net, which is the home page of Olivier Boisard.

The website contains lots of information and videos of Olivier’s various projects (all in French). It would appear that he has a deep interest in space exploration!

Back at his experience, there’s a large set of golden gears located in front of the castle, running a large clock:

Our experience explorer, Vanity Fair, is wearing two free items of clothing from the Sansar Store:

RSVF Fashions for Female Avatars

I spent several hours this morning working in Marvelous Designer on some new garments for women for my RSVF fashion line. Today I was learning how to texture items, using textures that I found on Pixabay. All textures from Pixabay are covered under a CC0 Creative Commons licence; they are free for commercial use and no attribution is required, which is perfect for me as I work my way up the learning curve!

So I created another, shorter skirt this time, and selected a beige fabric for it:

And then I created this off-the-shoulder top and picked a pretty floral pattern for it:

And here is Vanity Fair in Ryan’s Garden, showing off her new wardrobe! Total cost for this outfit is S$5 (S$5 for the top and the skirt is free!).

Outfit Outlay: Three Inexpensive or Free Outfits for Female Avatars

Well, the Sansar Store is starting to fill up with clothing already! Just go to the Sansar Store webpage, select Wearables from the Explore drop-down menu, et voilà!

I tried on three inexpensive or free dresses, and at first I was dismayed when all three had parts of my body and/or underwear showing through them when I previewed them in the Lookbook avatar preview:

It turns out that, when you put on a Marvelous Designer-created garment from your inventory, you must press the Cloth Simulation button in order for it to fit properly without any body parts peeking through. Nyx from Linden Lab had this to say about it:

Anything with the MD logo, please do simulate it, and feel free as a customer to pull at it to help it to lay outside the body where you want it to lay.

You can use it to drape an MD item over a rigged mesh item to make sure that they don’t interpenetrate with each other.

So here are my three inexpensive dresses:

First up is a freebie by Sala Loon, called the Simple Dress:

Next up is a S$5 skirt and matching top ensemble with a camouflage pattern, called the SportKraft Outfit, by Kokoia:

And finally we have my favourite, the Hip and Casual Green Tunic by Whystler. It is also S$5.
