Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Free Gifts to Celebrate the 12th Anniversary of the Firestorm Viewer!

Second Life is probably unique among metaverse platforms in that the most popular viewer software is not a product of the company that makes Second Life, Linden Lab! That would be the Firestorm viewer, created by the community itself by a non-profit company called the Phoenix Firestorm Project:

The Phoenix Firestorm Project Inc. is a non-profit, incorporated organization whose mandate is to improve the user experience in Second Life and other virtual worlds by providing an advanced open source viewer with greater features, options and interface flexibility than the standard offering by Linden Lab. The project has approximately 80 volunteers working for it and are managed through departments divided up as Development, Support, Quality Assurance and Gateway. We provide live support 24/7 in nine different languages inside of Second Life through our support groups and on the web via our issue tracker.

And to celebrate its 12 anniversary, Firestorm threw a big party yesterday, Saturday, September 3rd. And in a circle around the four-sim event stage are free gifts from Firestorm and other Second Life vendors for you! All gifts are free and you do not need to join a group to pick them up.

The present from Firelight Hair is a new unisex fatpack of hair called Glen/Gwyn, which comes in both male and female versions, rigged and unrigged, plus a HUD with 32 different textures:

Firelight is also generously giving out the same gift to SL users that it put out a year ago, for Firestorm’s 11th anniversary! This shorter unisex hairstyle is called David/Davina, and also comes in male and female versions, both rigged and unrigged, with a texture HUD as shown below:

Next up we have a casual outfit featuring three more free gifts:

The T-shirt is the present from Addams, and it comes in a wide variety of sizes to fit most female mesh bodies, and in two colours: white as shown above, and black. (Note that there is also a men’s T-shirt gift, which also comes in black and white!)

The gift from Firestorm is a fatpack of this unisex baseball cap featuring the distinctive Firestorm phoenix logo, with comes the the HUD shown below, where you can mix and match the colours of the cap and the logo as you please. There are two versions of the baseball cap, one for smaller heads and one for larger heads, and both can be resized simply by clicking on them, which pulls up a menu. It’s the perfect accessory for any fan of the Firestorm viewer as your avatar strolls the grid!

Finally, there’s a very nice gift from virtual shoemaker Versov, these wonderfully detailed sneakers, which comes in sizes to fit men and women! These special-edition Firestov sneakers come in sizes to fit feet for the following mesh bodies: Maitreya Lara, Signature Gianni and Geralt, Legacy (male and female), Belleza (male and female), and Slink (male and female). There’s also an unrigged pair in the folder, which you can adjust and resize to fit other brands of feet. They are a keeper!

There are also many gifts for you fans of breedables (which I am not). Here’s the blogpost on the official Firestorm blog listing all the free gifts. I’m not sure how long all these gifts will be available, but I seem to remember that the Firestorm 11th anniversary gifts were available to pick up for at least a month after the events held at the stage. As I said, the event stage is a circle covering four adjoining sims, with the same gifts available around the perimeter of the stage in each sim. According to the event listing:

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Gifts from the 13th Anniversary of the Fifty Linden Fridays Shopping Event

Have you joined the RyanSchultz.com Discord server yet? More details here

As you know, I am cutting back on my Second Life coverage, but I still wanted to bring to your attention that the the Fifty Linden Fridays (FLF) group is celebrating its 13th anniversary with a special sim groaning with free gifts! All you have to do is join the Fifty Linden Fridays group for free to pick them up.

In fact, there are so many gifts of avatar clothing, accessories, and home decor that I limited myself to showing you just two stores’ gifts, which make up a complete fantasy outfit!

A view from the back to show the detail on the wings!

From paper+antler come two gifts: these beautiful, resizable and adjustable pink-and-blue-wings and matching Minerva dress (the separate panties are included), which come in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara, Meshbody Legacy and Legacy Perky, eBody Reborn, and INITHIUM Kupra mesh bodies. I have paired these with the two gifts from Luas, the Triss horned headdress and a matching lantern with a high-priority Bento hold pose that works with your default animation overrider. (The shoes shown are the Amy ballerina flat fatpack from KC Couture, available at their in-world store or via the SL Marketplace for only L$175—a real bargain! You can tint the main part of the shoe, the sole, and even the interior separately, choosing from any of 40 different colours and textures. I turn to it often when I need flats to go with an outfit.)

There are so many more gifts available! I have posted a notecard with my picks for the best gifts, with exact SLURLs to each gift, in my RyanSchultz.com Steals, Deals & Freebies group in Second Life (L$50 to join; more information here). Because the FLF event has a single spawn point in the middle of the two concentric circles of vendor tents, you will have to save the SLURLs to your inventory, then right click on them, and select “Show on Map”, then follow the red arrow to your prize! UPDATE Aug. 14th, 2022: It turns out you don’t have to save the SLURL to your inventory after all! Just click on the SLURL in my notecard, and on the window that pops up, click on the Map button, then follow the red arrow to collect your prize!

The Fifty Linden Fridays shopping event runs until September 2nd, 2022. It’s jam-packed now, but if you wait a week or so, you won’t have to fight the crowds. Here’s your taxi to the event. Enjoy!

As always, I will be posting many locations, tips and tricks to pick up even more fabulous freebies in my group instead of writing about them to my blog, so please subscribe and check the group often!

Mid Summer Dreams: Delights from Blue Moon Enterprise in Second Life

Solas NaGealai (a.k.a Solas Enchantment) is the proprietor of the fantasy and historical clothing store BlueMoon Enterprise, as well as collaborating with Bee Dumpling in Silvan Moon Designs. I have known Solas for years (we first met in Sansar), and I absolutely love her work, which is beautifully detailed and well-textured.

If you teleport to the BlueMoon Enterprise store, and join the store group for free, you can pick up this lovely Daisy dress as a free group gift in-store:

But what I really wanted to show you today is the outfit Vanity Fair is wearing: the glorious Mid Summer Dreams gown. Recently, Solas has begun a creative collaboration with artist and sculptor Silas Merlin (the two met via Sansar as well), and this has led to some delightful surprises, including the sculpted, winged mask which is a part of this outfit!

First, a couple of suitably dreamlike shots taken in the enchanted forest of the Lost Unicorn sim:

Here’s a well-lit picture so you can appreciate all the wonderful details of this outfit—I just adore these rich, jeweled tones!

Vanity Fair is wearing:

  • Gown and Mask: the Mid Summer Dreams outfit by BlueMoon Enterprise (L$450)
  • Flats (not shown): Amy flats fatpack from KC Couture (L$199)
  • Choker: Jade star necklace fatpack by Miu (I picked this up as a free gift long ago)
  • Wings: these are a free gift from BlueMoon Enterprise! Just click on the gift panel shown below. These animated wings come in two versions: a rigged set, and an animesh set which you can reposition as you like (e.g. for a tiny or child avatar):

Vanity is also wearing:

  • the Kimberly Catwa Bento mesh head
  • the Maitreya Lara mesh body
  • Daria skin by The Skinnery
  • my favourite forest green Darcey eyes by Suicidal Unborn
  • for hair, I selected the simple, pulled-back bun hairstyle already in your default Second Life inventory. Just open your inventory, and scroll down to the very bottom of your inventory window to find the Library folder. It’s in Library / Accessories / Hair Design Options / Pulled Back Bun folder. It’s free, completely adjustable, tintable, and uncomplicated, and it fits well under hats and hoods, too! I use it all the time.

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Belle Epoque’s Summer Hunt, July 11 to August 31, 2022

Are you new to hunts in Second Life? Tearing your hair out finding an item you desperately want? Here are my top six tips and tricks for a successful SL hunt.

Belle Epoque is among my favourite womenswear stores in Second Life, featuring modern, fantasy, and historical styles of clothing. And from now until the end of August, the store is once again running a Summer Hunt, offering one-of-a-kind clothing, footwear, and accessories as prizes. Here is the legend of hunt prizes, which cost only L$10 each, a significant discount on the regular price! Some are a new colour or texture on an existing item of womenswear, while others are new designs:

You are looking for a white stuffed cat with blue eyes, as shown below:

(See the little white stuffed cat sitting in the corner?)

The cats can be small or large, and many are stuck within vendor displays, or tucked away in obscure corners of the Belle Epoque store. All the hunt prizes are of the high quality for which the Belle Epoque brand is renowned, and they come in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara or the Meshbody Legacy mesh bodies (please check the legend above for a few items which also come in the Maitreya Petite and Legacy Perky sizes; not everything does). If you have a different brand of mesh body (e.g. Freya, Kupra, etc.), I am afraid you are out of luck! Depending on the garment, you might be able to use the alpha HUD on an Altamura body to get the Maitreya or Legacy items to fit you.

To model these hunt prizes, I have called upon two of my small army of Second Life alts, Moesha Heartsong (Maitreya Lara body) and Lily Pond (Meshbody Legacy body). Yes, I am giving my main avatar, Vanity Fair, the day off! (Also, Vanity already has over 245,000 items in her overstuffed inventory, and I do not need to add to it!)

First up, we have a couple of ballgowns: Moesha is wearing the blue floral patterned Amanda gown (hunt prize #5), while Lily models the pink Allegra gown (#15). Both are quite suitable for your next elegant soirée!

Are ruffles your thing? Then you’ll love these next two dresses. Moesha models the pink Ankara dress (hunt prize #30), and Lily wears the green Juliette dress (#31):

Next up we have two patterned frocks, the more formal but still summery floral Cheryl dress (#8) and the multicoloured polka-dotted Maite summer dress (#20):

These are just six of the 31 hunt prizes, all for only L$10 each—truly a bargain! Remember the Summer Hunt ends on August 31st, 2022. Here’s your taxi to Belle Epoque. Happy hunting!
