How to Clear Your Cache in Sansar

You might not know that Sansar has a rather large cache. This cache is used to store information from Sansar experiences you visit, so they load much faster the second time around.

You should only ever have to clear the cache in Sansar if it becomes corrupt, which thankfully rarely happens (I have never had to take this rather drastic step myself).

It’s not necessarily an indication of a software bug in the Sansar client, although the Sansar cache could get corrupted during an update after a new release. The cache can be corrupted during various processes unrelated to Sansar. It could also have to do with a change you made to your computer recently, or due to an undetected computer virus.

You should know that uninstalling and reinstalling the Sansar client software does not automatically clear the Sansar cache. And you probably wouldn’t want that to happen, since the cache makes revisiting Sansar experiences faster.

I have also been told that you might have to reload your cache if you’re re-uploading content to a Sansar experience you are updating. Theanine says this happens to him:

I have to regularly clear my cache when I’m re-uploading stuff…if I don’t, Sansar tends to “upload” the previous version, even though the model is very different now. I also have a frequent problem where, I’ll make changes to an experience and then build, and after it loads the new build, it’s the previous build, not the new one. So I have to go clear those .bag files in the temp folders to force it to load the new build.

Here are the steps:

  1. Make sure all Windows Updates and graphics card drivers are up-to-date.
  2. Uninstall the Sansar client software.
  3. Press the Windows Button.
  4. Search for “ %LOCALAPPDATA% ”.
  5. Find the folder called “LindenLab” and open it.
  6. Open the folder called “SansarClient” and find the Log folder.
  7. Make a copy of this folder and save it to your desktop for now. This step is important if you’re experiencing an issue; you’ll want to be able to access logs that might capture the issue you’re having.
  8. Go back to the “LindenLab” folder and delete it.
  9. Search again for “%AppData%”.
  10. Find the folder called “LindenLab” and delete it.
  11. Reboot your computer.
  12. Reinstall the Sansar client software as an administrator (either via Steam or from the Sansar website; it’s the same client either way).
