Outfit Outlay: Highlander/Minotaur

Time for another rummage in the closet to pull together a look! This time I bought the Highlands Outfit for Male Avatar from the Sansar Store for S$400 (about US$4.00 or CDN$4.88).

The detail on this outfit, as with all the clothing sold by Sansar Studios, is very well done. I paired this outfit with the Minotaur head I purchased yesterday at Alfy’s 50% off sale, which is still going on as of today. The head attaches over the default male avatar head via the eyeglasses attachment slot, as shown here:

Outfit Outlay: Red Nails, Green Eyes, and Fairy Wings!

It’s still rather lonely being the first (and, so far, only) fashion blogger in Sansar! But with the latest release of the software, creators can now sell avatar attachments in the Sansar Store. That, to me, really marks the beginning of the fashion market! Here’s a link to all the wearables available for sale, sorted in order by newest items first.

Also new in this latest release is the ability to set your nail colour! Here’s what this looks like in the Avatar Customization module, under the Skintone & Body tab:

You can pick one of the six pre-selected colours, or if you wish, you can click on the multicoloured circle to customize your nails to any colour you wish:

Here I chose a slightly brighter shade of red for my fashion model avatar Vanity Fair’s nail colour.

Now, let’s get shopping! Debi Baskerville has already put a number of items up for sale in the Sansar Store, eyes, wings, and even a bag to cover your head for those days when you’re feeling particularly ugly!

I bought myself a pair of pretty light green eyes for only S$75 (US$0.75 or CDN$0.91). You attach them to your avatar under the Accessories tab in the eyeglasses slot:

I also bought the lovely translucent fairy wings for S$200 (US$2.00 or CDN$2.43). It took me a second to figure out how to attach them. They are located on the necklace slot in the Accessories tab, as shown here:Outfit Outlay Fairy Wings 10 Sept 2017

As Debi mentions in her store listing, Linden Lab has (short-sightedly, in my opinion) restricted the size of avatar attachments to one metre in each dimension. That’s so that you do not block other avatars with oversized attachments like walls or boulders! However, these fairy wings are a grandfathered item because Debi created them before that restriction was enacted! I have a feeling that Linden Lab will ease that restriction somewhat, once they realize that you can have items like this that do not pose an impediment to other avatars around you!

Here are a couple more shots of Debi’s fairy wings, taken in the Fairy Tale Island experience by GlitchNovastar. Notice the transparency of the wings in the photo of Vanity’s back! Debi did a wonderful job with these wings.

Atlas Hopping with Drax and Strawberry, Episode 5!

Wow, hard to believe that we are already on Episode 5! I joined the party late because I was busy doing The Renaissance Hunt 7 over in Second Life. There are over 70 wonderful gifts, so be sure to do the hunt before it ends September 30th! Here is my medieval roleplay avatar, Scarborough Fair, wearing the beautiful Lucia gown by Jezzixa Cazalet for Prism Designs, and the Santiago coin brooch by Jacon Cortes Designs, both of which are free Renaissance Hunt gifts:

Today we visited four Sansar experiences (I was only at the first three):

  1. Hootenanny, by Lillani
  2. VR Cult – The Events Hub, by Colpo Wexler
  3. Astro Port, by Mold3D
  4. Beginner Yoga Session for Headset Users, by Dutchie

VR Cult Sansar 2 Sept 2017

The VR Cult experience is particularly captivating in a VR headset. As I mentioned earlier when I selected this experience as my Pick of the Day, VR Cult is currently hosting two exhibits of artwork by the Italian artists Matteo Guariso, a photographer, and Francesco Musante, a painter and illustrator.

Sansar Creator Interview: Tina Fayet

I first met Tina Fayet at an in-world casual meetup on August 9th. She stood out because she was wearing a pair of steampunk wings which she had created herself using the Oculus Medium 3D sculpting tool in her VR headset.

I asked Tina recently if she would consent to an interview via email and she said yes.

Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and your background, and how did you get started making and selling objects for virtual worlds?

The first time I ever created anything for a virtual world would be when I made a multiplayer map for the Duke Nukem 3D game. It came out for the PC in a nice little bundle package with a level editor. I was 11.
I took a brief design studies course in high school (1 semester), and a 3-month drafting course at a local technical school. I gravitated towards 3D drafting and was able to get work designing mostly oilfield equipment but I also have experience designing everything from boats, vacuum trucks, swimming pools, electrical panels, renovation plans. Pretty much anything under the sun that needed to be fabricated. And most recently I’ve gotten into designing clothing and Sci-fi stuff for Sansar.

When I first met you, you were wearing a pair of steampunk wings you had created using Oculus Medium. Can you tell me more about that project, what your workflow was like, and what do you think about Oculus Medium as a tool for content creation?

I honestly can’t give enough credit to Oculus Medium for being a very easy way of getting artistic 3D models from my mind into Sansar. As I’ve said, a lot of my professional experience is doing drafting and engineering plans, renovations, stuff that requires straight edges and calculations. I always had a problem bridging the gap between my 2D hand drawings skills and my 3D design knowledge.

Where do you draw your inspiration for making virtual objects?  For example, what was your inspiration and what was the process you followed in creating your wonderful skull cape?

When creating something in Oculus Medium it’s very much like sketching; you start with an idea and it kind of just evolves from there. I set out to make a necklace, I started with something going around the neck. I added some shoulder pads, shaved a little off here, added a little bit of clay there. What would it look like if I put some skulls right here, oh that’s exactly what it would look like! It’s a very fluid experience.

What advice would you give to beginning content creators in Sansar?

I’m not a good person to get advice from when it comes to designing content for Sansar. I could say that being part of a team would be way easier than having to take all of this on yourself, especially if you’re going to be working scripting into your content.
