NEW April 24th, 2025: If you have tried out the brand-new line of starter avatars from Linden Lab (which include “Legacy Lite” mesh bodies and “LeLutka Lite” mesh heads), and you are looking for free clothing and shoes for them, you’re in luck!
I have compiled my best freebie shopping tips and tricks into one new blogpost on my blog, and given you a list of the 17 best places to pick up free or next-to-free shoes and clothing for both male and female Legacy Lite bodies. And, for three freebie stores (Palomma Plaza, the freebie store at Ajuda SL Brasil, and the Freebie Women’s Store at the Helping Haven Gateway), I even tell you what brands to look for! I made it easy for you.
Here’s the new blogpost: Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: The New Line of Starter Avatars, and Where to Find Free and Inexpensive Clothing for Them (Get 521 Items for Women for Only L$21!)
NEW March 16th, 2025! If you have picked up the free LAQ Era2 James and Elle SupremeUHD heads and HUDs from the LAQ store, you might be interested in this blogpost: Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Where to Find Free Body Skins to Match LAQ Skin Tones. Remember that the free heads/HUDs are a time-limited thing, so if you haven’t picked yours up yet, do it now, before they go back to full price!
Looking for options for a free or inexpensive female mesh body? Here’s a new chart comparing seven free/inexpensive options (costing L$250 or less) for female mesh bodies in Second Life, including the new Senra Jamie starter mesh body, which is completely free and already in your inventory! NOTE: This chart has not yet been updated to reflect the latest line of starter avatars with “Legacy Lite”/Legacy Basic bodies (see red box up top).
For more information about the Senra Blake and Senra Jamie bodies, please see the video at the very bottom of this blogpost, or go here.

The Top 22 Freebie Stores and Locations in Second Life
- If you go to only one freebie place, go to Palomma Plaza on the Galli sim. It’s the successor to the venerable freebie store The Free Dove, which was operated with love by Palomma Casanova for a staggering 17 years, until she passed away earlier this year. Palomma Plaza is a loving memorial to Palomma’s passion, with the freebie store on the sprawling main level, and a shopping mall on the second floor. This is a particularly good place to find lots of modern, high-quality men’s and women’s wear, jewelry and accessories, and hairstyles for both men and women. Palomma Plaza is still getting set up, but there’s already a lot there! If it is run anything like The Free Dove was, it will be regularly updated with new items, so it pays to pop in and wander around every few months, just to see what’s new!
- The freebie store at the Ajuda SL Brasil: Although it has undergone a reorganization, and some of the great freebies I used to be able to find here are now gone, this is still one of the better freebie stores on the grid. There’s a good collection of freebies for both women (on the 1st and 3rd floors) and men (on the 4th floor), including the freebie versions of the Valentina and Max Altamura mesh avatars (the Max body comes in two skin tones). Also, this is still the single best place to get free outfits for child avatars, with a separate section located on the ground floor. Most of the signs are in Portuguese, but freebies are freebies in any language! 😉
- New Resident Island (NRI) has a completely revamped freebie village, featuring a wide variety of carefully curated outfits from head to toe, for classic system avatars, as well as free mesh avatars (using the Roth2 and MFMB bodies for men, and the Ruth2 and MFMB bodies for women). These complete outfits include bodies, clothing and shoes, hair, even animation overrides! All you have to do is drag and drop a folder onto your avatar, and you’re done! Unique to NRI are a line of tiny fairy avatars, as well as a line of small cat avatars and clothing for them. Step-by-step instructions with diagrams make this the perfect place for newcomers to Second Life, whether you accept the outfits as curated, or mix and match them with pieces from the other freebie spots on this list.
- The Helping Haven Gateway: from the central spawn point on the sim, head east and follow the signs to the Freebie Village, where there are four large white buildings. Two of those buildings house men’s and women’s free clothing, footwear, and accessories, a mix of modern, high-quality mesh apparel and some older system-layers-and-flexiprim items. This is the place to go for hats! You can also pick up the freebie versions of the Tommy and Estephania Altamura mesh avatars here.
- The Freebie Megastore on the London City sim has recently improved its selection, offering the freebie versions of the Robert and Jenny Altamura mesh avatars and a small but growing selection of mesh clothing, including some specifically designed for Altamura male and female mesh bodies. (I recently paid a return visit and there’s a lot more male and female mesh clothing!)
- UPDATED April 17th, 2025, NEW SLURL: The Energy Weekend Price Event has a skybox (warning: region rating is Adult!) where you can pick up about 20 group gifts of women’swear and women’s clothing and hairstyles, if you join the #ENERGY# Weekend price group for free (one gift requires you join the Mesh Body Friends group for free). I would check back every so often, just to see what’s new.
- Central Park, a newbie-friendly hangout spot, has several well-organized collections of freebies in their freebie stores located here on a sky platform. Please note that, unlike the other stores on this list, when you click on the panels, they will either tell you about in-world location where you can pick up the gift (and give you a SLURL), or provide a link to the Second Life Marketplace where you can pick up the item. It’s important to note that there are TWO stores for female avatars, and two stores for male avatars; the “basic” stores are located in front of you at the spawn point, and marked by the big pink and blue arrows, and the “advanced” stores, which are located behind you when you teleport in. In the “basic” stores, there are panels with free classic (i.e. non-mesh) male and female avatars with complete outfits, including hair, mesh clothing, and shoes! To get these complete avatars, you must join the Adventure Scouts group; the group is free to join.
- With the advent of Bakes on Mesh, the older system-layers-attachments-and-flexiprims clothing can now be used on newer mesh avatars! Here’s a blogpost which lists several places to find such clothing for free (plus a couple to avoid at all costs!).
- Ayuda Virtual has a moderately-sized freebie store with both men’s and women’s clothing, as well as some free furniture for your home. Most of the signs are in Spanish, but as I said before, freebies are freebies in any language!
- The Cuddle House (a communal, women-only hangout) hosts a skybox womenswear store run by Rebel Spirit, where the second floor has numerous free women’s outfits available; just join The Cuddle House group for free to pick up these gifts. The clothing is mostly dresses and costumes. Here’s your taxi!
- The Fantasy Freebies section in the Faery Crossing castle is a great place to pick up many different kinds of wings, mermaid/merman tails for both classic system and mesh avatars, and other fantasy gear!
- Virtual Ability is a notable freebie location for two reasons: you can pick up free wheelchairs for your avatar here, and they also have a small but decent selection of free home decor. (They also have blue and pink shacks with a small collection of older, system-layers-and-flexiprims clothing for men and women; you can probably find more modern, mesh creations at the other freebie spots on this list, although you could certainly use them with Bakes on Mesh avatars as well.)
- The German Newbie Center on the New Berlin sim has a small but well-organized collection of free clothing and footwear for both male and female avatars. No group needed; just click and take!
- NEW July 30th, 2025: Another German freebie store is located in Madgeburg Neustadt. This is a tiny freebie store with some women’s and men’s gifts in older mesh body sizes (e.g. Maitreya Lara 5.3).
- There’s another very tiny freebie store located in the Brazilian community gateway region of Raizes do Brasil (SLURL), with seven items of womenswear by Anne Silver Couture. There’s also a couple of items of menswear in the store next door. No group required!
- The tiny, nearly-empty freebie store at UniHispana Crea offers the freebie versions of the Altamura Aaron and Emanuelle mesh avatars (even though the vendor signs are blank, they still work!), and a very small selection of male and female mesh clothing, including some specifically designed for Altamura female mesh avatars. Be sure to wander around to the back of the store, or you’ll miss a few more freebies located there!
- The selection of freebies at Lusch Haven & Freebies is pretty old, but I include this location in my list because they offer free cellphone/selfie Bento animation overrides for both male and female avatars, plus an array of free smartphones to use with them! I’ve never seen this freebie anywhere else, and the female AO is actually really cute!
- If you want to be a furry avatar, do not despair—there are some places with freebies for you as well! JESIRIS offers free furry Bakes-on-Mesh skins for male and female mesh avatars in sixteen different colours each, as well as pointers to pick up a free mesh bunny head and tail kit from the SL Marketplace (you can also pick up some nice free rabbit heads here in LynchLand). You can use all this with the free Senra Blake and Jamie avatars already in your inventory, to create a completely free rabbit avatar for your furry adventures! In additon, on the table opposite are pointers and landmarks to other fabulous freebies for non-furry, human avatars.
- UPDATE March 20th, 2025: The Flower Power Freebie Market carries a small array of hippie/bohemian/anti-capitalist/anti-fascist/LGBTQIA+ posters, men’s and women’s T-shirts in a wide variety of sizes, used furniture, and even a really nice motorcycle! Everything is free, and no group is required.
- NEW August 3rd, 2025: The welcome area at Corsica South Coasters (CSC) offers an array of boxed freebies. Of particular note are a collection of free, full-permissions vehicles, and a handy HUD for finding zones to rez those vehicles!
- NEW April 24th, 2025: There’s a free gift at each store in the mini shopping district at the Welcome Hub Shopping Street (and sometimes, more than one gift!). No group join is required to pick up these freebies.
- NEW April 24th, 2025: There a lovely selection of free gifts available at the new Welcome Hub here (no group needed, just click and take).

The Top 41 Stores with the Best and Largest Selection of Free Group Gifts

Most stores offer group gifts to people who join their store group, but these stores are notable for the number of freebies they give out, or in some other way (like a rotating freebie every day or every week, to keep you coming back):
- UPDATE February 26th, 2025 with new SLURL: If you join the LSR Fashion Friends group for L$99, you can pick up 100 fatpacks of womenswear at their new group gifts store—and it looks like they’re adding more fatpacks regularly! Here’s the exact SLURL (note that they have changed the location of the gift room to a brand new skybox).
- UPDATE February 26th, 2025 with new store groups: Scandalize’s group gift room is back, but you’d better pay a visit soon, because the owner of Scandalize has announced that they plan to shut down the store sometime in 2025! There’s a group gifts wall to the right as you enter the Scandalize main store†, then click on the sign on the front counter to teleport to a skybox with well over 100 free group gifts! Here’s your taxi (the SLURL will take you to the main entrance of the Scandalize store).
Please pay attention, because the skybox layout has changed! To pick up all the gifts in the first three rooms of the now-five-room skybox, you will have to join the .Scandalize Store. group for L$20. To pick up all the gifts from Beyond in the brand-new fourth and fifth rooms of the skybox, you will need to join the .:Beyond:. store group for L$89. Note that the Beyond gifts, unlike the Scandalize gifts, seem to be single colours and not fatpacks. However, I notice that some of the newest Scandalize gifts, and many of the Beyond gifts, include LaraX in their sizing, so if you have that body, go get those gifts!!
(Please note that if you picked up all the freebies from their previous group gift skybox, that many of the gifts appear to be brand new when I checked on February 26th, 2025, so you might want to pay a return visit to make sure you hae everything!) - Hilly Haalan operates a small group gifts store with over 125 high-quality free gifts (women’s clothing, shoes, and jewelry; the group is free to join). Just look for the teleporter sign at the spawn point for the sim, and click on “Gifts”.
- COCO Designs has several low, black group gift walls scattered around the store, with well over 60 high-quality gifts (women’s clothing and shoes; the group is free to join).
- Legendaire has a small selection of group gifts up on the second floor (women’s clothing and shoes; the group costs L$49 to join). They also have a free, no-group-needed gift every day, on a panel located outside, next to one of the store entrances (here’s the exact SLURL). I just pop in every day, just to see what the new freebie happens to be!
- Nilsy has a free women’s outfit (offered in a wide variety of sizes to fit most mesh bodies) out every week in the middle of their store, so I always pop in once a week, just to see what it is. You do need to join the free NILS ISLAND STORE group to pick up the weekly gift. There’s also a few other freebie group gifts on the store’s front counter, plus some lucky chairs.
- UPDATE April 17th, 2025 NEW SLURL: NYNE offers dozens of free women’s hairstyles and other group gifts (the group is free to join). Just click on the bags located on the shelves next to the front counter to pick up all the group gifts from previous years: 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 (plus a few other group gifts). Don’t confuse the free group with the V.I.P. group, which costs L$500 to join!!!
- Sintiklia has moved to a new location, and unfortunately they have scaled back severely on the many free group gifts of hair which they used to offer; however you can still pick some older free hairstyles in a gift box located here. (The rest of the formerly free hairstyles now require a L$99 group join fee, which is still a good price for about 60 group gifts, mostly women’s hairstyle fatpacks, a few male/unisex styles, and some jewelry.)
- UPDATE Feb. 26th, 2025: Another great place for hair is Ade. Just head upstairs, where there are 22 free group gifts, mostly of women’s hair, plus a couple of unisex/men’s hairstyles, and some accessories, too! The Ade store group is free to join.
- A third place with a few free fatpacks of high-quality women’s hair is Stealthic (the Stealthic group is free to join). The group gifts wall is located to the right of the main entrance. Be warned that this is a very popular store, that is usually very busy, especially if they are having a promotion! Here’s your taxi.
- A fourth place with many free women’s hairstyles is Tram, which has recently added about thirty new, longer hairstyles to its free hair wall in-store! No group is required, just click and take. Many of these are older, shorter hairstyles, including some cute pixie cuts and bobs, but you should be aware that many of these styles were made the old way, using sculpted prims, which can add significantly to your avatar complexity ratings! However, one advantage of these older hairstyles is that you can edit and tint them as you please (to fit better under hats, for example). Check them out, especially if you prefer shorter women’s hairstyles!
- Another place for inexpensive hair is No Match. It costs L$50 to join the store group, but for that fee, you get access to a huge (and growing!) group gifts area in the store. There are almost 100 hairstyles for men and women here. (Given that Sintiklia now charges for their formerly free hairstyles, you might get more bang for your buck at No Match, if you can’t afford to join both groups.)
- UPDATE March 20th, 2025: One more place for free male and female hair is Kuni. Join the store group for free to pick up a dozen free hairstyle fatpacks!
- Gabriel has set up a new FREE BEE store where you can pick up tons of menswear for absolutely free (no group needed). More information here.
- UPDATE April 17th, 2025, NEW GROUP JOIN FEES: Four Second Life menswear stores (Duk, Strunsh, Mazzaro, and Elementtare) have recently joined forces and created one new group, called DMSE – Men’s Station (which is free to join). Teleport in to the central spawn point for the region, and you will see four panels with free menswear gifts from each of the four stores, if you join that new group. (DUK still has a group gift wall on the other side of their front counter in the store; it now costs L$100 to join the DUK store group. Mazzaro also has a separate gift collection at the rear of their store; it now costs L$50 to join the Mazzaro store group. Elementtare also has a group gifts section; their store group is free to join).
- WellMade has a very generous group gift wall, with over 30 free group gifts for women of clothing and footwear; the WellMade Store group is free to join.
- Beautiful Dirty Rich offers you dozens of free fatpacks of womenswear (the Beautiful Dirty Rich store group is free to join).
- Enchantress has over 50 free group gifts of women’s clothing, if you join their store group for free (there’s also many gifts for the various freebie groups on a nearby wall).
- B SASSY has a whopping 100 womenswear gifts in the gift room at their store, up on the third floor! The group is free to join. Use the teleporter board or take the stairs. 😉
- UPDATED April 17th, 2025: Looking for women’s shoes? KC Couture has 24 free group gifts of women’s footwear on the gift wall in their store (the group was free to join, but now it’s L$1, which is still as close to free as you can get!). There’s also a couple of no-group-needed lucky boards nearby.
- S@bbia, a store which is notable for its homespun style of clothing, always has two free women’s outfits (usually one colour of their latest offerings), plus another 8 group gifts on a wall to the right of the store entrance. You can join the S@bbia store group for free to pick up these gifts.
- UPDATED April 17th, 2025, NEW GROUP JOIN FEE: Rowne has a gift wall with 13 group gifts of fashionable womenswear, including a full fatpack of women’s dress pumps, a wardrobe staple! (the Rowne group used to be free to join, but they are now charging L$89 to join their store group to pick up all the gifts).
- La Maldita Bruja has dozens of free items scattered throughout their store (just click on the La Maldita Bruja sign at the central spawn point to get to the store). These gifts do not require a group join, and they are usually an accessory piece to a full outfit, which is not free. However, the gifts are things like jewelry, makeup, or other accessories, and they could easily stand on their own. Please note that La Maldita Bruja tends towards the gothic, the macabre, and the exotic! (Also, when you unpack anything you pick up here, it screams at you!)
- Ydea is a store with a large selection of group gifts of apparel for both men and women (including some older standard-sizes mesh clothing and some older system-layers clothing). Next door are two Midnight Madness boards, plus an entire mini-store full of Lucky Letter board and chair gifts! You can join the Ydea store group for free.
- Looking for free weapons? Jomo has a small stone building next to its main store (exact SLURL), where you can pick up dozens of free swords, shields, spears, staves, axes, and other weapons (please note that these are not scripted weapons, but they can be resized and modified). No group join is required.
- RealEvil Industries offers over 40 nice gifts of jewelry and accessories for men and women, if you join their free RealEvil group (not to be confused with their RealEvil VIP group, which costs L$500!).
- At the Rodex store, take the Portal marked Gifts (SLURL), and you will be teleported to a room with 45 gifts of men’s and women’s apparel. Join the store group for free to pick up all the gifts, and please note that some gifts cost L$1 which is automatically refunded, and some gifts cost L$1.
- Petrichor has a growing group gift wall with almost 45 gifts of fantasy apparel, accessories, and decor, if you join their store group, called [The Plastik.], for free. However, please note that the smaller pictures underneath the rows of free items on this wall cost anywhere from L$49 to L$99!
- UPDATE Jan. 26th, 2025: KIKI KAIKAI has almost a hundred free group menswear gifts, ranging from traditional Japanese Buddhist monk outfits to casual wear to cutting-edge Tokyo streetwear! Just join the Kiki Kaikai store group for free, and they’re yours! Most fit the Big Three male mesh bodies (Belleza Jake, Meshbody Legacy, and Signature Gianni), but many of the outfits can work with any male mesh body with alphas. Here’s your taxi…enter the store, turn left, and take the stairs next to the sign shown in the first picture. Note that there are two levels with freebies upstairs, and watch out—one set of items is marked at their regular price of L$230 each, and are not free!
- NEW Jan. 26th, 2025: Another store with a free group join and over 40 free group gifts (consisting of various items of apparel, jewelry, and accessories for both men and women) is Amias. I love stores where they just keep adding to their group gifts wall, instead of removing older gifts! (WellMade, #15 on this list, is another one.)
- NEW April 17th, 2025: Seniha offers nine group gifts of womenswear with a free group join, plus a tenth gift if you join the SL Frees & Offers group (also free).
- NEW April 17th, 2025: Another store with a free group join and a selection of group gifts is GGVG, which specializes in womenswear. Check back periodically, as the gifts are changed fairly often.
- NEW LOCATION Sept. 10th, 2025: Looking for Japanese anime or schoolgirl outfits. or perhaps a fun Halloween costume? Look no further than Poza Mart! There are dozens of outfits available here, and they are all free! These costumes only come in one size (Maitreya Lara/Lucybody Atenea), but they should also work with other brands of female mesh bodies if you use alphas. You can also some nice casual outfits and dressy uniforms here (for example, there are several kinds of maid outfits).
- NEW Sept. 10th, 2025: Looking for avatar poses for photos? Look no further than Versuta, where you can pick up dozen female pose packs for a free group join!
- NEW Sept. 10th, 2025: Another good place to find free poses is PiXit, where you can join the store group for free and pick up 18 gifts, including a selection of male, female, and couple poses.
- NEW Sept. 10th, 2025: A third spot to pick up free male and female poses, plus some tattoos, is RBento (the RBento store group is free to join).
- NEW Sept. 15th, 2025: A fourth place to get free female poses (and animations for your AO, too!) is Lyrium (this region has a central spawn point; just follow the red beam/arrow to locate the free group gifts on the wall immediately to the right of the entrance door to the Lyrium store).
- NEW Sept. 15th, 2025: The Varsity male and female avatar apparel store has moved to a new location, and if you join the Varsity store group for free, you can pick up 16 group gifts of clothing for male and female avatars. Many of these apparel gifts are full fatpacks, too!
- NEW Sept. 25th, 2025: Paix offers twenty free group gifts of EvoX female head skins and makeup (the store group is free to join).
- NEW Nov. 22nd, 2025: ConTrato has a large gift room with 82 group gifts (mostly womenswear, but a few men’s apparel items as well). The ConTrato group is free to join. There are also 11 more gifts for various freebie groups (some paid, some not).
- I am including V8 Underground (formerly known as Brii) on this list for two different reasons. First, the main store does have a generous gift wall (SLURL) with gifts for various SL groups (most of which are free or inexpensive to join); they do tend to rotate these gifts every few months, so it pays to check back every so often.
UPDATED Nov. 15th, 2025 (new group join fee): Second, if you join their GOTH group for L$2,000, you can teleport to their GOTH skybox (SLURL, or use any of the teleporter hubs in the main store) and pick up no less than three hundred and ninety-seven complete outfits—which works out to only L$5 per outfit!) The newer outfits fit Maitreya Lara/LaraX, Meshbody Legacy/Legacy Basic, and eBody Reborn, and the older outfits tend to fit Lara, the older Belleza bodies (Freya, Isis, Venus), Slink Physique and Hourglass, and TMP bodies. All outfits include footwear and accessories, so even though you’re paying a lot up front, this still counts as a bargain! This is also a great place to get Christmas and Halloween outfits. Along with the LSR gifts store and the Scandalize group gift skybox (see items #1 and #2 on this list), GOTH is probably your best one-stop-shopping solution if you have a new Maitreya Lara 5.3/Lucybody Atenea body, or a Legacy/Legacy Basic body, and you want to pick up a lot of clothing for it in one fell swoop!

The Shopping Events with the Most Freebies
- FaMESHed is a popular monthly SL shopping event which often has freebies.
- The monthly MIIX Event usually has some gifts, plus a free hunt (or gift) if you join the Hype Events group (the group is free to join).
- The annual Second Life Hair Fair has free hair gifts at many of the participating vendor booths. (The annual Skin Fair usually has a few gifts as well.)
- Second Life has an official Shop and Hop shopping event as part of their big anniversary celebrations (usually running from the middle of June to the first week of July), and every Christmas season there is also a special seasonal Shop and Hop event. Monitor the Second Life Featured News blog for news of other Shop and Hop events held at various times of the year, such as Valentine’s Day and Hallowe’en. At these events, there will be a freebie at every single store in the shopping mall, which spans up to ten whole sims! Plan to attend nearer the end of the event, when you won’t have to fight the crowds and lag.
- Check out the yearly anniversaries of regular shopping events; quite often there will be freebies at all or most of the participating vendor booths. For example, the Cosmopolitan, FaMESHed, and eBENTO events all have their anniversaries in May, and the popular Uber event celebrates its anniversary in late August and early September with many wonderful free gifts.
The Top Seven Blogs (and Two Discord Servers) to Follow for Freebies
- My own blog, of course! 😉
- FabFree (Fabulously Free in SL)
- Midnight Magpie
- Second Life – FREE (this is a little-known-about Russian-language group on Vkontakte, the Russian version of Facebook, which often lists items I don’t see on other freebie blogs; use the Russian-to-English translator in your Chrome browser or Google Translate to read the entries)
- Low price Fashion In Second Life (a Japanese blog, which again sometimes lists freebies that I don’t find anywhere else; use the Japanese-to-English translator in your Chrome or Firefox web browser)
- Either SL Freebies Cheapies Dollarbies Lucky Chairs Hunts, the SL Freebie Blog Feed, or the SL Freebies Directory (all three are blog feeds of Second Life freebie blogs, and there is a lot of overlap between them)
- UPDATE March 29th, 2024: Dreamer Pixelmaid runs a wonderful Discord server devoted to finding and sharing news about freebies and bargains in Second Life! It is called Dreamer’s Second Life and here is an invitation to join us as we share tips and tricks. Another great Discord with an active free items channel is Naria Panthar’s Discord. I usually check both Discords every day for news about freebies all over the grid!

Ryan’s Top 12 Tips for Freebie Hunting

- Be patient: Freebies can come and go; freebie stores like Palomma Plaza and Ajuda SL Brasil rotate their freebies regularly, so it’s worthwhile to visit every couple of months, just to see what’s new. It can take some time to pull together a complete look from various components picked up as freebies at different times from different stores and events.
- Akeruka has been giving away freebie or dollarbie Bento mesh heads (both male and female models) twice a year for the past couple of years. A truly outstanding bargain for the L$150 group join fee! So join the Akeruka group and watch the notices for the next giveaway announcement.
- Looking for an inexpensive, Maitreya-Lara-compatible mesh body? Slap the Midnight Madness board at LucyBody, and wait until it hits 350 (usually a day or two) to receive a free Atenea female mesh body, which is completely compatible with clothing designed for Maitreya Lara (version 5.3, not the new LaraX body). The feet on the Atenea body are Slink-compatible, with three heel heights (flat, mid, and high), but the newest version of this body also includes a special foot setting compatible with Maitreya Lara high-heeled shoes. (You can pick up a Bakes on Mesh HUD to use with this body for only L$250, to be able to wear BoM skins with it; see image above.)
- Check out the Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies section of my blog regularly. In particular, monitor my two constantly-updated blogposts about free and inexpensive mesh heads and bodies for male and female avatars (although they both are a little out-of-date by now). If you are looking for free women’s hairstyles, check out this blogpost (although this blogpost is getting out-of-date now, too).
- Watch for announcements of free group join periods, and join the store group when it is free (Scandalize regularly offers free group join periods, for example).
- Don’t forget to check those stores which have lucky boards or lucky chairs. Some may require you to pay a fee to join their store group, though. Others require either a free group join or no group at all.
- Hunts are often a great way to pick up free or inexpensive items. You can check to see what hunts are currently going on using the Hunt SL and SL Hunts blogs.
- December is easily the best time of year to pick up lots of freebies! Many stores have Advent calendars or Twelve Days of Christmas calendars with free gifts each day. While some stores require you to visit each day to pick up that day’s gift, other stores allow you to pick up the entire calendar’s gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day! Some events which usually have many Christmas gifts are Epiphany, FaMESHed, the Dubai Event, the Swank Event, the Man Cave, and especially the Cosmopolitan event, which has a Christmas tree groaning with gifts. Don’t forget the Holiday Shop and Hop event, where every participating merchant has a free Christmas gift for you!
- Watch the Cat Pink SL series of YouTube videos for news about hunts and other freebies.
- Don’t forget your default Second Life inventory! For example, many of the newer starter avatars have good-quality hair and clothing you can reuse, mix and match to good effect. For example, here’s a blogpost which lists all the beautiful eyes you can reuse from the starter avatars. Also, check out what’s in the Library folder at the very end of your Inventory window—for example, the Pulled Back Bun hair from the Library / Accessories / Hair Design Options / Pulled Back Bun folder in your Inventory is free, adjustable, tintable, and uncomplicated. Perfect for use under hoods and hats!
- UPDATE July 23rd, 2025: Every December, LeLutka usually offers two free EvoX Bento mesh heads (one male and one female), as part of a massive freebie giveaway with dozens of participating stores offering free gifts of skins, makeup, jewelry, etc. All participating stores set thier store group join fee to free during this event, so this is the time to join that pricey skin store group for free! If you are looking for free skin store groups to join the rest of the year, the five store groups of Alexandrite, Amara Beauty, Boataom, Le Voltage and Purple Beauty are free to join throughout the year, and all offer free group gifts of one or more fatpacks of women’s EvoX skin (in fact, Le Voltage is offering a very generous 12 EvoX skin fatpacks!).
Also, both Logo (free group join) and Akeruka (L$150 group join fee) usually offer free male and female Bento mesh heads in December as well, and sometimes at other times of the year, so join both groups and check the notices!
UPDATED March 15th, 2025 with new SLURLs for several of the stores in this paragraph: Looking for free body skin to go with that free head skin you picked up? Nuve offers free female body skin in 30 skin tones (human and fantasy colours) here (no group needed), Amara Beauty offers free female body skin and add-ons here (no group needed), Leronso offers free body skin here (free group join), and Boataom offers an older, but still perfectly serviceable, version of their body skin for six different brands of mesh bodies here (look high up on the wall for the Group Gift sign; free group join).
NEW July 23rd, 2025: Also, the Palomma Plaza freebie store now offers four gifts of full body (head/ears AND body skin) from enLight and ND/MD, plus Alaskametro’s gift of full body skin in a fatpack of three skin tones! The enLight and ND/MD gifts are just to the left of the south entrance to the freebie store, and the Alaskametro gift is located next to the hair section; see the pictures posted above.
And don’t worry if the skin tones of your head skin don’t exactly match these free body skins! You can pick up free neck fades from Purple Beauty, Velour, and Not Found, to match Moccino, Velour, and Not Found male and female head skins! Purple and Velour also offer free EvoX ear skins in case your head skin is missing ear skin.
UPDATE April 25th, 2025: All of these free skin options I have discussed are for female avatars. Unfortunately, for men, free and inexpensive head and body skin options are nearly non-existent; you’re probably going to have to shell out for name-brand head and body skins. Brabos (SLURL) does have two free group gifts of male EvoX skin fatpacks if you join their store group for L$50. The Kris and Camden skins come in skin tones which match body skins sold by Velour and Not Found.
Oh, I just remembered that there is another place where you can pick up free, Velour-compatible EvoX male and female head skins! It’s LeLapeau. Join the LeLapeau group for free, teleport to their store, and there are eight gift boxes on and under a couple of coffee tables (exact SLURL; see the picture above). Two of these gifts are EvoX skins for men, and the other six are EvoX skins for women (including one in fantasy skin tones). - UPDATED April 24th, 2025: In 2023, Linden Lab launched line of starter, fully-mesh avatars called Senra. More information about them is here, and please be sure to watch the following video, for some helpful tips on how to get started with the new Senra Blake and Senra Jamie bodies:
But, on April 22nd, 2025, Linden lan released another new line of starter avatars to replace the Senra ones! Read the bright red box at the very top of this blog post to learn more, and to find a link to separate blogpost which discusses these new starter avatars and how to find free clothing and shoes for them. And check out Naria Panthar’s 40-minute livestream video where she demonstrates these new avatars:
Happy freebie hunting!
†To make things extra confusing, there are two Scandalize groups! To get the gifts from the in-store (ground level) group gifts wall, you have to join the !|SCANDALIZE|! group for L$99. But if you want to pick up the group gifts in the skybox, you have to join the .Scandalize Store. group for L$20!
