UPDATED! Second Life Steals, Deals and Freebies: Where to Get Both Versions of the New Free Male Mesh Avatar Head and Body by Altamura, Plus the Best Freebie Stores for Men!

UPDATE Oct. 20th: For a current, up-to-date list of options for free and inexpensive male mesh avatar heads and bodies, please see this blogpostAlso note that all the clothing freebies at the UniHispana Crea sim are now at the same spot as the Max vendor sign, instead of in a separate location. Also, the Max bodies at both Ajuda SL Brasil and UniHispana Crea are now FREE instead of L$1; just click the blue vendor panel and select Deliver from the blue pop-up menu.

Finding high-quality freebies for male avatars in Second Life can be a bit of a problem. There seems to be a LOT more freebies available for women than men. So today I am going to tell you about all the places I go visit when I am looking to outfit one of my male alts.

Did you know that Altamura has just announced that they are giving away two versions of their Max full Bento mesh avatar body and head package for FREE? (Actually, you’ll need L$1 to pay the vendor, and then the vendor automatically returns your Linden dollar.) This is a fully functional, fully adjustable, fully featured Bento mesh avatar body and head with a full set of alpha selections (but please note that you cannot hide the head using the included HUD, in order to wear another mesh avatar head with this body). Also, while you can turn the hairbase on or off using the HUD, each Max body only comes in the one skin tone. You cannot use Omega appliers with these freebie male bodies.

To pick up the darker skin tone version of Max, go to Ajuda SL Brasil. At the landing point, look for this large blue sign:

When you click it, it will teleport you to the third floor of their large Freebies store, where you can pay the identical blue sign L$1 to buy a copy of your Max mesh avatar body and head package. (You will get your Linden refunded.) There are also many more freebies for men on this floor, of varying quality (some are mesh, some are older system clothing), so go and shop around!

To get the lighter skin tone of Max, you need to go to another freebie spot, called the UniHispana Crea Community Gateway. This place can be a little confusing to navigate, so use the included SLURLs to find what you are looking for. The Max package is available here (again, just pay the blue sign L$1 and it will refund you):

But the small selection of freebies for men (including the mesh dress suit and dress shoes my avatar is wearing) is located in another place on the same sim:

Another great place for men’s freebies is the venerable Free Dove. They have a selection of high-quality men’s clothing and shoes, and a few hairstyles for men as well, located against the back wall from the entrance:

Finally, there are some nice freebies by designer Giz Seorn (some unavailable anywhere else) that can be found at the New Resident Island freebie village:

Note that many of the vendors at New Resident Island are restricted to avatars under a certain age in days, but the Giz Seorn freebies are available to anybody regardless of age.

So, there you have it! Only a few stops and you have not only a good-looking mesh avatar head and body, but also hair, shoes, and good-quality clothing galore! Here is a shot of my male alt, wearing the lighter-toned Max head and body, with free Chris hair from the Free Dove, and wearing the suit and shoes I got from the UniHispana freebie store:

I forgot to mention that the Bento male animation override is also FREE, available from Tuty’s. So everything this avatar is wearing from head to toe, including the AO, is FREE!

We Finally Have Another Sansar Fashion Blogger!

As many of you know, I have been lamenting about being the only Sansar fashion blogger. Well, I now have some company!

Second Life Fashion Portfolio: Six Gowns from Silvan Moon Designs by Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai

I wanted to show off all the beautiful gowns I recently bought from Silvan Moon Designs (SL StoreSL MarketplaceFlickr), both the special designs available at their booth on the Aetherea sim of the current Fantasy Faire, and at their regular store on the Emerald sim! Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai, the owners of Silvan Moon Designs, do such outstanding work that I wanted everybody to see them!

Here’s a couple of pictures of Vanity Fair in the wonderful Le Carnivale Baroque gown in blush I bought at Aetherea (please click on each picture to see a larger version):

And here’s Vanity Fair in the Relay for Life special I also bought at Aetherea, called the Lady of Shalot in sapphire blue:

Here my medieval roleplay avatar, Scarborough Fair, is wearing the lovely Lady Ariana gown in white (click each picture for a larger size):

And here is the beautiful Daphne of Mistborn gown in green, which comes with a matching vest:

And in this picture, Scarborough is wearing the Light of Sarin gown set with matching hat, in slate blue:

Finally, Scarborough is wearing the Windsor Palace gown in gold (this last dress is also one of the special Relay for Life designs available only at the Silvan Moon Designs store on the Aetherea sim):

I’d like to thank Solas NaGeala for so generously giving me the Linden dollars to purchase these six exquisitely made gowns. As you can see, I spent the money well!

Second Life Fantasy Faire Has Started!

FantasyFaire

Today, the 10th Annual Fantasy Faire opened in Second Life. This long-running and popular benefit for the American Cancer Society is described as follows in their press release:

Celebrating its tenth year, Fantasy Faire 2018 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world. From Thursday, April 19 to Sunday April 29, treat yourself to eleven days of shopping, dance and theater performances, DJ parties, auctions, questing, Literary Festival, fantasy art, events and roleplaying as thousands of Second Life residents and creators bring their own visions together to support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.

Avatars, clothing, furnishings, gadgets and exclusive items are available from more than 200 of Second Life’s top Fantasy Creators across ten stunning shopping sims designed by some of the visionary artists behind many of the hottest spots on the Second Life destination guide.

In addition to the ten shopping regions, there’s also five whole Fairelands dedicated to various Faire events from Memorial Garden to the Fairelands Quest, from Literary Festival to Performance Stages, from Art Galleries to the Worldling Collection. This brings the Fairelands count of 2018 into fifteen sims, just waiting for you to come and explore them.

Of course, no big Second Life event would be complete without technical glitches! I crashed out of Firestorm just about every single time I tried to cross from one Fantasy Faire sim to the next on my journey today.  I almost literally had to crawl my way through the lag to get into the Aetherea sim, home to the Silvan Moon Designs store, where I bought this beautiful Lady of Shalot gown in sapphire blue for L$350:

Here is Vanity Fair, wearing the Lady of Shalot gown, feeling every inch a princess! The detail work on this gown, like all the work that Bee Dumpling and Solas NaGealai do for Silvan Moon Designs, is astoundingly good. (The crown Vanity is wearing is the KrisCar Queen crown from Alienbear Design.)

At Silvan Moon Designs I also bought myself Le Carnivale Baroque Gown set in blush for L$450, just the thing for those days when I want to roleplay as Marie Antoinette at the Versailles court!

From the Oubliette store on the (much less laggy) Severina sim, I got my medieval roleplayer avatar, Scarborough Fair, the lovely Snow White Maiden Gown for only L$185! (The Varda roses circlet, necklace and earrings were from Illusions, a store that has since closed in SL, so it is sadly no longer available.)

The Fantasy Faire runs from today until April 29th, so you only have eleven days to take everything in! Here’s a link to their calendar of events, so you can start making plans.
