Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: L$15 Combat/Hiking Boots from Scandalize!

Every so often, the popular Scandalize womenswear store holds a hunt.

Well, “hunt” would be a strong word, since that would imply actually hiding the items; the hunt items are simply placed out on the floor in plain sight, and all you really need to do is walk through all the aisles of the store to find them. Sometimes, they don’t even bother to scatter the hunt items around the store!

Well, Scandalize is once again throwing a Summer Hunt, on now until August 30th, 2020, where you are looking for a small pink-and-white unicorn pool floatie (see image above). You do not need to join the Scandalize group to buy the hunt items, which cost L$15 each.

I wanted to alert my faithful SL readers that I have discovered an incredible bargain with one item in the Scandalize Summer Hunt: a complete fatpack of the Darliane combat/hiking boots, with an truly mind-boggling number of customization options!

The Darliane boots come in two versions (with or without socks) and they come in sizes to fit the following female mesh bodies (but really, they’re unisex; I’ll explain below):

  • Belleza Freya and Isis
  • Maitreya Lara
  • Meshbody Legacy
  • Slink Hourglass

Here’s what the Darliane boots look like, right out of the box. They come with three HUDs which allow you to change no less than nine different parts of the boot, to any of 42 different colours—every single part of the boot, from the sole to the eyelets to the laces to the loop at the back!

You can go crazy with any of a mind-boggling 42 times 42 times 42 times 42 times 42 times 42 times 42 times 42 times 42 (42⁹, or 42 with an exponent of 9) possible colour combinations, or just opt for basic black:

Yes, that’s right, 42⁹ possible colour combinations!

Here, my bored, surly goth girl alt, Nada Nix (a suitably nihilistic Second Life legacy name for a goth avatar, don’t you think? ), is rocking her new Darliane boots at the House of V club:

But the best part is this: these boots are unisex, and can be worn by men or women. And, even better, they are even resizable!

How is this possible? Well, you can always alpha out the feet and ankles on any mesh avatar body, using the included HUD that came with the body, so it should be a relatively simple matter to get them to look good on whatever body you are wearing: male, female, transgender, etc. (I mean, these are combat boots, sweetheart, not some delicate, strappy sandal where most of your foot is showing! If your foot is sticking through at any point, just alpha it out!)

And, if you wear the Legacy size of the Darliane boots, you can actually make them bigger or smaller, just by adjusting the foot size slider in the body sliders! If you’re not familiar with footwear designed for Meshbody Legacy, this is a standard feature. Just right click on your avatar, select Appearance from the pie menu that pops up, then select Edit Shape, scroll right and hit the Legs tab on the Editing Shape menu, and finally, scroll down to the bottom-most setting of Foot Size, as shown here:

There you go, easy as pie! Here, one of my male alts is out for a hike in the Mount Campion Caves National Forest (the rest of his outfit is free, from Fitch):

Here, I set the foot size using the body sliders to 80:

As you can see, these are extremely versatile boots, and at only L$15, they are a real steal! So hurry down to Scandalize before the Summer Hunt ends on August 30th, 2020, and snap up this bargain before it’s gone!

Here’s a couple of hints to help you (please ignore them if this feels like cheating to you). From the main front counter of the store, head right. The floaties tend to pop up only as you get closer to them, even at Ultra settings, so you may have to wander around a bit to find the Darliane boots.

And Scandalize is always busy, so expect lots of avatars and lots of lag. If you are using the Firestorm viewer, select Show Friends Only from the World menu to derender everybody except your friends, to get much better viewer performance (see image, above right).

Happy shopping!

UPDATED! Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Pick up 72 Free Clothing Fatpacks at the Scandalize Outlet Store Until August 15th!

Please note that I am taking the rest of the summer off as a self-imposed vacation from the blog so I can focus on my other work, except for sponsored blogposts, and the occasional exception such as this post. See you in September!

UPDATE Aug. 14th, 2020: I have received word that these fatpacks of clothing are only going to be available for free until August 15th, 2020, so hurry down today!

Scandalize has always been one of the most generous stores on the Second Life grid in terms of free group gifts, with a group gift wall in-store just heaving with free clothing and footwear. It costs L$100 to join the Scandalize store group, but you get so much in return it really is a no-brainer (or watch and wait for times when they have a free group join, too; they usually do it two or three times per year).

Well, Scandalize recently set up an outlet store on their sim, and to kick it off with a bang, you can join a new, free group called Scandals SL Frees & News and scoop up no less than seventy-two full fatpacks of older Scandalize outfits, all for FREE! This is such an outstanding deal that I decided to break my self-imposed vacation from the blog to tell you about it.

Here’s the SLURL to the Scandalize Outlet store; when you arrive you will be prompted to join the new, free Scandals SL Free & News group (or you can just click on the panel as shown below. Once you have joined the group, just click on the Scandals tag in the corner of each clothing panel to pick up a complete fatpack (i.e. all colours and patterns, including ombre tones in some cases) of that particular outfit!

Most of the clothing comes in sizes to fit Maitreya Lara, Slink Physique and Hourglass, and Belleza Venus, Isis and Freya mesh bodies. Because many of these outfits show a fair bit of bare skin, they might not work well with other kinds of mesh bodes (such as the freebie or paid-for Altamura mesh bodies, particularly around the pelvic area).

However, there are now several free and inexpensive mesh bodies that are Maitreya Lara compatible. One of them is the Atenea mesh body from LucyBody, which is a free Lucky Board prize (more information is available here). Maitreya Lara clothing and Slink footwear fit this body very well, and for only L$197 you can pick up a Bakes on Mesh applier HUD to allow you to wear any Bakes on Mesh skin with it.

I have also written about a few other mesh bodies that claim to be Maitreya Lara compatible, in my constantly-updated list of free and inexpensive heads and bodies for female avatars. Check it out! You don’t need to spend a fortune to be able to wear Maitreya Lara-compatible clothing and have it look good!

Another option for a Maitreya Lara-compatible mesh body is the new Anya full-body (i.e. head and body) mesh avatar by Kalhene, which has recently opened up a small store opposite the N-Core Design footwear store (here’s the SLURL).

For only L$1,695 you get a beautiful, completely-adjustable Bento mesh head and body, with a detailed HUD, complete with a starter wardrobe of clothing and shoes, plus a set of lovely, realistic-looking Bakes on Mesh skins in a variety of skin tones! The Anya package even includes hair, plus an AO for the face, hands, and eyes! All you need to do is add your own animation override (for the body) and you’re all set.

Compare everything that you get in the Kalhene package with paying L$2,750 for the Maitreya Lara body, alone, after which you will also have to shell out for a pricey Bento head (Catwa heads are L$5,000 each), plus pay for skin appliers, etc. etc. You can easily see what a deal the Kalhene mesh body package is (even if you decide to just use the body, pairing it with a different Bakes on Mesh-compatible mesh head).

The Kalhene Anya mesh body

(Note that Kalhene is also selling Alexa, a flat-chested/transgender mesh avatar, which is compatible with Maitreya Lara with the V-tech flat chest add-on, for the same price, L$1,695.)

Now that we’ve discussed Maitreya Lara-compatible mesh bodies, let’s take a look at some of the clothes I picked up for free at the Scandalize outlet store! Here is the Axcid dress, which comes in two separate parts, the dress and the sleeves, in a complete fatpack of colours:

The Clae outfit consists of a cropped leather jacket with a belted miniskirt, which comes in a variety of colours and patterns (the jacket comes in a wide range of colours, including black):

The stunning Scarlett full-length ballgown comes in a complete fatpack of solid and ombre tones:

Finally, we have the sexy Kya romper, where the top, belt, and shorts can be configured via HUD to a wide variety of different colours and camouflage patterns!

I have heard that these 72 Scandalize clothing fatpacks are only going to be made available for a two-week period, so don’t delay! Hurry down and snap up these fabulous freebies before they’re gone!! Happy freebie shopping!

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Gifts from the Très Chic Fifth Anniversary Event

It is the fifth anniversary of the Très Chic (“very stylish” in French) shopping event in Second Life, and like most anniversary events, many of the vendor booths have a free gift for you to pick up (you just have to join the Très Chic group for free).

The first item I want to show you today is NOT a free gift, but I just loved it and had to have it! It’s rare indeed for this freebie fashionista to make an impulse purchase when perusing the merchandise for sale at a shopping event. This medium-length Mona Muse bodycon dress by SEUL comes in a pleasing variety of solids and prints, and this print called Ascending was an instant buy for me! (Notice I am still rocking my favourite accessories, the champagne glass from Hive and the wonderful, over-the-top diva cigarette holder by Kunst! I just get such a chuckle when I load up Vanity Fair and she’s still smoking away.)

I’m quite sure that the artist who painted this never in his wildest dreams imagined that they would appear on a dress in Second Life! (I’m assuming this painting was in the public domain, or some art gallery somewhere is gonna be pressed like a panini.)

On to the gifts! Here’s what the gift boxes look like:

First up is this outfit consisting of a top and separate, colour-coordinated skirt from Neve, which both come with a HUD with four colour choices each, plus options to wear the top tucked into the skirt as shown, or untucked.

I have added the beautiful golden Nefert choker from Poison Rouge (which gives me a definite Wonder Woman vibe), as well as the ultra-teased, ultra-high Athina hairstyle by Vanity Hair, which includes a HUD with all the essential hair colours, ombre tones, and even streaks!

This Chic top and skirt (the gift from Scandalize) come in plain and polka-dotted versions. This hair-and-tweed-cap combination from no.match is called No Joke, which comes with a HUD of brown colours and would work equally well for both men and women:

The Lake pulled-back hairstyle by Sintiklia comes with a style HUD, four different kinds of separate left and right bangs, and a HUD of ombre tones. The delightful Seinab top and tartan miniskirt from MOWIE come in a fatpack of colours:

Here we again have the Sintiklia Lake hair again, and the shockingly low-cut red Lola dress By AVALE, which thankfully comes with a separate bra, which comes with a HUD with nine colours and lace textures, paired with the the Queen choker by ANDORE, which includes a HUD with six metal choices, and ten choices for the gemstone:

Here Vanity Fair is wearing an eye-catching, asymmetrical pin-striped dress called Anyka, which is the gift from -zk-:

Now that I am finally done and finished with all the bullshit from Google AdSense, I can actually show you this provocative see-through Marika dress from from Mangue, which at least comes with matching panties to protect your vajajay from public display! The dress and panties come in four colours each: black as you see here, plus white, pink, and red. The black Aimy necklace pictured here is the gift from Nanika.

Our final look is a combination of three gifts: the Nadin grey denim skirt by SAVIN, which goes very well with the lovely floral Camomile top by Eternus. This outfit is topped off with the Très Chic hat by Miu:

Vanity is also wearing:

  • the Kimberly Catwa Bento mesh head
  • the Maitreya Lara mesh body
  • Daria skin by The Skinnery
  • Dasha hair or Lady hair by Truth (when not wearing a gift hairstyle from the Très Chic event)
  • and, of course, my favourite forest green Darcey eyes by Suicidal Unborn!

Happy freebie shopping! The current round of Très Chic runs until June 10th, 2020 so you do have plenty of time to snap up some fabulous freebies for your female avatar (and I would strongly urge you to wait a week or two before you try to teleport in, as the sim is currently jam-packed with shoppers!).

Second Life Steals, Deals, and Freebies: Presents From the December FaMESHed Event (Plus a Few Advent Calendar Gifts)

The December round of the FaMESHed Event in Second Life is upon us, and once again, most of the vendor booths have beautiful Christmas gifts for us! There is some really lovely stuff, both for your avatar and for your home. You do have to join the FaMESHed group for free to pick up all the presents.

Here Vanity Fair is wearing two gifts from vendors at FaMESHed: the Christmas Deer sweater from Just Because and the Hanna red heels by Phedora. (The blue leggings were part of the Dec. 4th Advent calendar gift from Appliqué Chic, and are still available today for free, but they will be L$10 after today):

The red Joy throw pillow and the neon Santa hat on the wall behind Vanity are also gifts from FaMESHED, by Fancy Decor and EQUAL respectively.

Now we have the Merry plaid blue zipper skirt (part of the same Dec. 4th Appliqué Chic Advent calendar gift as the leggings in the previous picture), plus a lovely cropped sweater, the FaMESHed gift from Giz Seorn:

Here we pair the red cable knit mohair sweater by COCO Designs with the sexy red thigh-high Cate boots by Garbaggio (my favourite shoe store!):

Next we have the Shayla robe in green from Ricielli, which comes in both closed and open versions (obviously, I’m not going to show you the open one!):

The Scandalize gift is the Nairi dress in black with a separate black lace bralette:

The gift from Neve is this lovely outfit consisting of two separate pieces, the top and the matching skirt:

This is the Jane sweater by RIOT (which comes in green as shown and also in red), paired with the Adriana red glitter shorts by Bombshell. (The RIOT gift box also includes Jasper sweaters for the men.)

Next up is the Scarlett bra and panties, the gift from Belle Epoque, shown with the Punta Cana shoes by Essenz, which comes with a HUD to change the colour of the shoes themselves (3 options: grey, blue, and red), the sole (4 options), and the tie around the ankle (18 options):

Here’s a closeup on the shoes, which like everything Essenz sells, is wonderfully crafted, with much attention paid to details!

Finally we have the Cindy dress in mint green by Kaithleen’s, paired with the Dec. 5th Advent calendar gift from Essenz, the sand-coloured Honolulu shoes:

Here’s a closeup of the Honolulu shoes, which are bit too frou-frou for my taste, but they might be perfect for you!

You do need to join the Essenz group for L$350 to pick up their daily Advent calendar gifts, but all are beautifully crafted footwear, and I think that L$350 for 24 quality pairs of shoes and boots is a bargain.

The hair used in all these pictures is the Dec. 5th Advent calendar gift from Firelight Hair, a curly hairstyle called Melvena (you will have to join the Firelight group for free to use this calendar). The hair comes with a 3-colour HUD to change it to brown, black, or red:
