Pick of the Day: Wandering Isles

I first visited this enchanting experience, created by Nya Alchemi, yesterday evening.  I landed under a covered terrace, surrounded by starry purple night skies and bridges lit by Japanese lanterns.  The sound of tinkling chimes filled the air.  A huge pale moon hung low in the sky:

You walk, and it soon becomes apparent that you are located on one of a myriad of rocky islands floating mid-air, like in the movie Avatar.  To navigate between islands, you must use Sansar’s teleport feature to jump from one to the other (as the pictogram sign below indicates).  If you are in a VR headset, you use the index trigger on either hand controller to teleport.  If you are not in a VR headset (i.e., you are using Sansar in desktop mode), you press the CTRL button and use the mouse to select exactly where you want to teleport to, and then click the left mouse button while still holding the CTRL key to complete the teleport.  Once you get the knack, it’s easy!

After hopping from island to island, you land up following a tunnel cut into the rock, and within that tunnel… well, I won’t spoil it for you.  You go explore Wandering Isles.  Enjoy the sushi 🙂 and see if you can locate the black cat!

Discussion in the Oyo Lounge: Three Pressure Points for Sansar

Oyo Lounge 2 August 2017

Every day so far this week Jenn,  Linden Lab’s Lead Community Manager for Sansar, has invited avatars to gather at the Oyo Lounge at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time/Sansar Time.  We meet up at Alfy’s experience and chat about various topics: movies, current events, other virtual worlds, etc.

One item of interest that came up during the discussion was the consensus that there are three key pressure/pain points which Sansar needs to pay attention to as it grows in size:

  1. Organization and searching of Atlas listings.  As the number of experiences gets ever-larger, it becomes ever more important to be able to search for and pull up a particular experience quickly.  A Facebook poster, Ørjan Sandland, mentioned a helpful tip: it is possible to keyword search the web page version of the Sansar Atlas using CTRL-F (of course, you have to make sure that the web page is fully loaded before that will work properly). And of course, that trick doesn’t work when you’re in a VR headset.
  2. Organization and searching of Store listings.  Again, as the number of items in the Sansar Store increases, the harder it is to find something.
  3. Organization and searching of your personal inventory.  Veteran Sansar builders have huge inventories now, and have no way to create folders, or search for items, other than scrolling through lines and lines of listings.

The sooner these three pressure points are addressed, the happier we all will be.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s meetup with Jenn at the Oyo Lounge at 2:00 p.m. Sansar time!  Hope some of you can attend and take part in the discussion.

Outfit Outlay: Cowgirl

Way back in the day (ohhh, let’s say 2012 through 2014), I used to write a blog about the late, lamented virtual world called Cloud Party.  (It was great fun while it lasted, and I was sad to see them go.  They were swallowed up by Yahoo!)

The blog was called Cloud Party Bugle, and one of the regular features I used to have was called Outfit Outlay, in which I discussed each of the individual items that made up an avatar’s outfit, and explained where to get them and how much they cost.

Well, it’s time to resurrect Outfit Outlay again, this time for the new virtual world of Sansar, and for my first avatar fashion presentation, I give you: the Cowgirl.

My female alt, Vanity Fair (named after my fashion model avatar in Second Life), is wearing the Western Outfit for Female Avatar, now available from the Sansar Store by Sansar Studios for S$400.  The outfit comes complete with top, jeans, boots, belt and two bracelets.  The detail work is really remarkable.  The cowboy hat and blonde pigtails hairstyle come as one item, the Western Hat for Female Avatar, also available from the Sansar Store by Sansar Studios for S$100.  The finishing touches are the blue dangle earrings, available for free under the Accessories tab when you customize your basic avatar:

Just click on the bracelet icon along the left-hand side, then click on the little ear along the top and you’ll see it as an option to add to your avatar.

The top photo of Vanity in this blogpost was taken in a beautiful rustic experience called Bella Vista, created by Winter Loxely.
