Sansar Video: I Dare You to Test Me

Daisy Winthorpe has created a well-crafted three-minute YouTube music video that shows off a dizzying array of Sansar worlds to wonderful effect:

If this doesn’t get you at least a little curious about Sansar, then nothing will! (Thanks, Daisy.)

Loki Eliot’s Videos: Sansar Postcards

Given the current state of affairs at Sansar, I think it is important to document the many wonderful, beautiful worlds that designers and creators have built on the social VR platform over the past three years.

Longtime Sansar resident Loki Eliot (also well known from Second Life) has created a series of short videos in a series he calls Sansar Postcards, which he has been sharing on his Twitter feed. Because Twitter feeds tend to be somewhat ephemeral, and Loki does not have a YouTube account, I asked his permission to upload and share some of his Sansar Postcards with you here on my blog. Thank you, Loki!

The link below each video is the Sansar Atlas webpage for that world, in case you wish to visit and explore for yourself. I hope that this will inspire you to visit Sansar and discover more marvelous worlds!

If this whets your appetite for exploration, may I make a few suggestions of other Sansar worlds to visit? (The list of worlds in that link is from June, 2018, so a few may no longer be available on the in-world Codex directory.)

If you need some help getting started with Sansar (which does not require a VR headset to enjoy), here are some step-by-step instructions for newbies I put together last year (although it is also a bit out of date).

MUST WATCH VIDEO: Jesse Damiani Talks with Voices of VR Podcast Host Kent Bye on Tech Tock

Jesse Damiani (LinkedIn, Twitter, Wikipedia) hosts a regular talk show called Tech Tock on the Microsoft-owned social VR platform AltspaceVR, and his guest yesterday was Kent Bye, the host of the Voices of VR podcast. (I have blogged before about Kent Bye here and here.)

I’m really sorry I missed this event (I’ve been busy conducting library training sessions for various classes at work all this week at the university, and I just came home last night exhausted, so I gave this a pass). But thankfully, someone has posted a YouTube recording of Kent’s entire presentation and his conversation with Jesse afterwards.

Kent Bye is an extremely information-dense speaker who hops from topic to topic with alarming ease, so you might want to set aside some time and watch this video is small bites, so you don’t get complete information overload! His twenty-minute overview presentation about virtual reality is an absolute must-watch, and the conversation afterward with Jesse Damiani is also very informative, engaging, and wide-ranging. The last half of this YouTube video is a question-and-answer session with members of the studio audience.

So set aside an hour and 40 minutes, and watch the whole thing. It’s amazing. I think that Kent Bye is one of the most informed and articulate speakers about virtual reality that I have ever encountered! Bravo, Kent. And thank you for bringing him onto the show as a guest, Jesse.

NeosVR Demonstrates Its Full-Body Tracking Feature In a New Music Video

Full-body tracking is not a new feature in social VR (VRChat, High Fidelity, and Sansar all already support it), but it’s still worthwhile to watch this video by Reactant VR of the full-body tracking in NeosVR:

The vlogger talks about how NeosVR lets you adjust every aspect of how tracking works to the specific dimensions of your avatar (a feature that other platforms like VRChat don’t offer yet). His setup consists of a Vive Pro Eye headset with a Modmic 5 microphone, plus eight Vive tracker “pucks” (on his chest, elbows, hips, knees, and feet), Valve Index controllers which track individual finger movemens, and a Vive wireless adapter so he is not encumbered by a VR headset cable. It’s quite amazing to me just how expressive his avatar can be!

NeosVR shows off that full-body tracking to good effect in this new music video, which also shows you a little bit of how you calibrate your avatar beforehand so its movements look as natural as possible:

Very cool! Also, effective from this blogpost forward, I will have a new blog category just for NeosVR. (I will try to add that new category to all my previous blogposts about NeosVR, when I have time.)
