Pick of the Day: 3D Mind Bending Reversperspective Art

Reverspective Art 4 1 Sept 2017

Today’s Pick of the Day experience has a mouthful of a title: 3D Mind Bending Reversperspective Art! This gallery features the art of Patrick Hughes, who created what he calls “Reverspective” painting: an optical illusion on a 3-dimensional surface where the parts of the picture which seem farthest away are actually physically the nearest!

When you stand on one of the red triangles and look at one of the paintings, you cannot see it in anything but sharp, regular perspective:

It’s only when you move off to the side and look at the painting again that you see how it is really constructed:

Very clever! The experience is particularly suited to users in VR headsets, but the effect still works even if you are in desktop mode.

Thank you to Apmel who first spotted this new experience and blogged about it!
